straight away this thread title, will bring the younger tubes on this site to this thread. why cause they have very little or no idea of this clubs history before they walked up wembley way in 1999. welcome back plymouth why...the last time they got this far, they met us in the semi final at villa park some 23 years ago. thats why. the town went watford mad in those days, but sadly with a average gate of 16,ooo our allocation of 20,000 was enough for the loyal fans. we still had load of fairweather part timers then as well. happy happy days.. not a wig or replica shirt in sight, as we made our way down to the junction. it was a lads day out, every big firm in watford were still open, ie scammells, sun printers, rolls royce, and most had arranged some form of coach or train travel. sadly the family club carp was also in full swing as well. scarfs, flat caps and flags were all out. our boys wore gold tops not fecking banana yellow in those days. i think the train was a special, and the atmosphere was outstanding. oh but villa park was a shyte hole. but the atmosphere standing in the holte end was stunning. the passion and singing, was something the young ***** of today can only dribble over whilst watching it on a dvd. the pride of elton and taylors drive, the teams hard work all came together that day, as we pulled though, a very average game. that golden era, big george reillys goal, mojo alongside him. class. just look at the team for the semi. if only we had some of that grace, skill, knowledge, and class now. sherwood, bardsley, price, taylor, terry, sinnott, callaghan, johnston, reilly, rostron, barnes,. sub. johnston we finished slap bang in mid table league wise, but still a great year.
Also what's wrong with being a family club ?? Would you prefer to be like Millwall with a reputation only a thug would want ? Wow the printers was still open, must have made it soooo special Flat caps ?? aahahahahaha and you poke fun at those who wear the shirt.
spot the difference classic top a yellow top a banana our fans on saturday. things only ever get worse
Seems we have good yellower... http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Watford/Watford.htm Hey Arfer, would you wear the 1904 home shirt?
Athurrr look at that link and admire the nice YELLOW 80s kits. Also look at the fans in the Barnsey pic, you can see the flat caps, they look great.
Chewitt being a family club has plenty of things wrong with it, i know I'm only 16 but when you our away support with so many little kids with clappy sticks it looks a bit of a joke. I went to aston villa v man city in the city end last year, they took 6,000 there as it was F.a Cup, saw hardly any very young kids, hardly any shirts and no wigs or clappy sticks and it was a good atmoshphere, the fact there were no really young kids meant no-body had a problem standing the whole game (which all 6,000 did, your lucky to get 60 at watford) and all of them sung, even if you look at our away games last year, as well as being a local derby why was sc*m the best away atmosphere? The families stayed away, and everyone stood for the whole game.
Ok you have a point but i'd rather be a family club than one with a dodgy reputation, where does that get you ?? Extra attention from the police, getting your every move watched. No thanks. Arthur, you've been proved wrong, just take it.
If they get put off by some of their own supporters and don't come because of our support then they are terrible fans and can feck off and support someone else for all i care.
and most do. gloryhunters. just watch those empty seats at the wigan game. this club has been held back by its daft image fro 25 years now.
A daft image created by you and your over-reactive imagination. if football to you is about not wearing colours, reminiscing about games that happened generations ago, taking the pi*s out of our support, tactics and players, being a general d*ckhead and trying to provoke a response then i think we'd all appreciate it if you did one and found a club that appreciates that sort of thing.
We do not have glory hunters at Watford! Our glory days were back in the 80's! (That's when we'd have had 'glory hunting fans) Just because people don't turn up, week in week out, does not make them glory hunters. How when we are bottom of the Premiership can we be seen as a team for glory hunters?! The reason for our low attendances is actually because of our geographic location and the fact we have too much competition for fans. Do you honestly believe the same Chelsea, Man U, Arsenal and Liverpool fans turn up each week? I doubt they do, it's because there are more fans trying to get tickets (by the way those are teams for glory hunters!). We are getting more fans now, that is a good thing - more money and part of that is because of our image as a family club. Affordable Premiership football (for the area). It means we have a support base for the future and the youngsters might continue supporting us in the future, encourage their friends to do the same and then we might, just might have a large support base ourselves allowing us to get large attendances
Arthur, i've resisted rising to your bizarre baiting for a long time. Please, you obviously hate this club so why don't you just go away?
What ever club you support in this country a big chunk of the support will were colours be it watford , Brighton or Barnet. Personally i dont care what people wear to games but change the record please.
He definitely does not hate the club, quite the opposite in fact. He holds the supporters and the club to a standard that may be difficult to meet however, in this day & age, for better or for worse. There is nothing wrong with strong opinions & high standards, though he clearly enjoys sticking his finger in the collective eye. Who doesn't? Anyway, he's pretty good at it, the "bizarre baiting" I mean. It's like performance art. I rather enjoy it. We all have our ways of supporting the club. There doesn't need to be just one, does there?
No but each and every way should be accepted and treated with a certain amount of respect, something which he seems incapable of doing.
