It was ridiculous. A fan of yours said there had been a Q+A and the chairman had apparently said it would stop next season.

The club's ticketing thing is certainly a joke but the lack of general sale for the Chesterfield game was forced by their fans registering and trying to buy tickets in bulk in the home areas.

It’s interesting to see how non Watford supporters view The Vic & the town in general so cheers for that, it was a good read.

One very very minor thing I noticed was Hoedt was captain and not Bachmann! But Bachmann was captain earlier in the season so can forgive you for that:p

I’m in awe at the audacity to just copy and paste Wikipedia for over half your blog.

If you’re getting the moolah, more power to you.

I haven’t copied and pasted off of Wikipedia, I don’t get paid for the blog, it is for my own enjoyment so there is no reason for me to copy and paste it. In terms of club history, it is quite hard, because you can’t rewrite history, so it’s difficult not be similar to other sources. But thanks for the feedback all the same. Hopefully you enjoyed it

[One little side note I would like to say to all football supporters: if you see someone taking a photograph, don't walk in front of them, I'm sure you can take 10 seconds out your day.]

If I'm waiting more than 2.5 seconds for you to take your "posed" photo then I'm walking through it, slowly.

That was a good read, thank you for taking the time to write it and post it. I will say as many have alluded to already, our stewarding system is on par with MI5 the way fans' are sometimes treated. But, as you rightly said we do hope a change is on the horizon for that in the near future. I cannot get to games anymore personally, but it's always nice to read of a fans' experience especially one from a non-hornet prospective. Glad you enjoyed your day out.

    From just one section.

    Wikipedia:

Watford's weak financial position was exposed in 2002–03, following the collapse of ITV Digital.[38][39]The club was facing administration, but an agreement by players and staff to a 12% wage deferral helped the club's cash flow, and a run to the FA Cup semi-final generated vital revenue.[40][41] Financial constraints saw a large number of players released that summer. After consolidating in 2003–04, the following seasonstarted well, with the club in the upper half of the Championship at the end of September. Poor form, however, saw the club drop towards the relegation zone. Despite reaching the semi-final of the League Cup, Watford's league form did not improve, and Lewington was sacked in March 2005.[42] His successor, Aidy Boothroyd,[43] led the club to Championship survival.[33]

There was more to it, but this appears to have been edited. I’m not criticising, it’s your project you do you.

Ah my paraphrasing there has been really poor, I must admit. But I most certainly do not copy and paste, merely paraphrase. As I said earlier, really difficult to rewrite history. Can’t say Watford won the Champions League if they didn’t can I? :)

Caught red handed and you come back with insults rather than confess and say ‘it’s a learning experience’.

Last I checked, you were in the same league as us. I didn’t even mind you and your soulless bowl of a stadium and half empty attendances. You were, like you are to most fans outside the port, a ‘nothing really’ or the team that the weirdo Le Tissier played for. An afterthought, a club with all the character of a freshly painted fence. When teams draw you in the cup, their fans groan or say ‘I forgot about them’ in the same way you forget about Christmas present socks or the ‘band’ Babylon Zoo when they pop up in a one hit wonder documentary. Like the tomato in a BLT - unneeded, forgotten, overly wet and complains about frisking. I genuinely couldn’t name one of your players, even after watching a whole game on Sunday. You are just that forgettable as a club.

After this debacle, I even hope Leeds go up over you.

    A. I struggle to see where I’ve insulted him? I admitted my paraphrasing was poor, but maintain I don’t copy and paste.
    B. I’m not a Southampton fan, so a lot of what you have said is redundant.
    C. Why have you been lurking in the shadows, liking everyone’s posts, waiting to go on a tirade?

The only person throwing out insults… is you (and the guy who felt the need to point out he didn’t read it, as if he gets brownie points for that?)

Those that want to avoid 'heavy handed stewarding' should do as I did yesterday. Spend all morning carrying out some pointless and time consuming task that your wife has set you so that you arrive at the ground 20 minutes or so after kick off. You will find that the stewards are standing around in groups by the turnstiles and just nod at you as you repeatedly smash your phone against the barcode reader terminal, while shouting "come on you f***ing thing work". No frisking, strip searching or general roughing up at all.

Not sure why some on this forum are so intent in causing offence to non Watford fans at times, but definitely don’t take it personally. Thanks for posting, obviously didn’t need to read the history etc but always good to hear other people’s thoughts on our ground / match day experience etc. Your ratings are high, are you normally generous with them or did we fair quite well against others?

Hi mate, don’t worry, I’ve been doing the blog for three (ish) years now and one thing that I’ve learned is people find it easier to say horrible things (whether they’re right or wrong) than good things. I’m quite a harsh marker to be honest, I have been to a lot of grounds now. For instance QPR I scored really low, as I did with Cheltenham (my team, if the BLT guy wants another crack at it). I really enjoyed yesterday and I came away saying ‘I’m struggling to find negatives.’ I don’t really try food at football grounds anymore, but my mate who I go to all games with always does so that’s why I rate food and drink. The history bit, as well as the notable people and former players, is something that I find quite interesting as often I find out players played for a club that I didn’t know they did. I asked a Watford fan I know to write the former players for me. Thanks for reading, and hope you guys do well.

As I said to start with, it’s your project and fair play if you’re getting any ad revenue off of a massive chunk being from Wikipedia.

The reason I pointed it out, is because it read like a Wikipedia article and was a 30 second check to confirm. If you wanted to do anything seriously with this, there’d be far more checks than some weirdo on the internet taking 30 seconds of their day to do so.

Even if you didn’t, there’ll be other weirdos on the internet thinking “that looks odd” and calling it out.

    hi mate,

I didn’t have an issue with you calling it out to be honest. A lot of people make similar comments (especially at larger clubs where the history is naturally a lot larger) so it’s obviously something I need to work on. I stand by the fact that I don’t consciously copy and paste (or physically do the action) merely I read a paragraph then try to put it in my own words, which clearly as you’ve pointed out I’ve done badly at, so thanks for pointing it out. As I stated before, I don’t make money off the blog, it’s more for my enjoyment and learning really, and I’ve met a lot of people through doing it, which helps with my anxiety. I did take exception to your mate who compared me to a BLT (thanks you have provided a lot of entertainment this evening) because it felt like he was primed and waiting for his opportunity to do so. There’s something we do at my work which questions what constructive criticism is… and when it’s all bad feedback, it’s not constructive. That being said, I still enjoyed myself, and I hope despite the fact you felt the need to point out that criticism you enjoyed the rest of it.

Scott Duxbury watched me being frisked yesterday - I don't suppose he normally has that experience on entering a stadium........

Tbh, although they did ask permission, I did feel it was a bit over the top. When you look at me, you’ll know the only thing I’ve smuggled into a football ground is a steak bake at Forest Green
