No, the disrespect was that they released Andre Gray's cringeworthy mea culpa interview last season, after ******* abysmal play combined with multiple lockdown breaches, in which Gray referred to Luther as an example in a way that equated the two - saying that Luther also missed plenty of chances. A deluded and disrespectful hanging out of a club icon, sacrificed on the altar of a pathetic attempt at the rehabilitation of a terrible person and the worst signing Watford have ever made in their history going back to medieval times.

I always say this when this topic comes up, the issue really is modern football. The Pozzo family have made a lot of mistakes but the issues really lie in the fact that modern football is ****ed and hugely stacked in the favour of the rich.

No. But I think we all expect the team to try, and to care.

 

That doesn’t excuse them. People often fall into the habit of talking like the two threads are mutually exclusive.

Gino could keep the same wealth etc etc - and still make far far better decisions and judgment calls than he does.

Yes football is a mess in terms of money and ethics etc. But that’s not a defence for him.

 

I genuinely don’t ‘expect’ that and haven’t for a few years now. I desire it, I don’t expect it.

 

Just for a bit of context, we’re currently only two points better off than at this stage when we came up with Aidy in 2006. We also finished that season on 28 points but we’re currently on track for only 27. We’d also lost a lot less games and had a slightly better goal difference:



Yes, I know people will advance the argument there is more money in the league and the league has moved on, but let’s not forget absolutely no attempt was made to improve that 2006 side, we lost our star striker early on then sold our best player as well.

After all the money we brought in spending 5 seasons in the PL, all the wheeling and dealing, the supposed unparalleled scouting network scouring every single corner of the globe for talent, all the hiring and firing of different managers….. and we’re now not even any better than an Aidy Boothroyd championship team. That’s the progress we’ve made. That’s the impact Gino and Scott are now having.

That wasn't the point I was making though, I see this 'most disconnected i've felt from the club' etc and in my view that's a modern football issue, not a Watford issue.

 

I would rather have had the Pozzo era than be someone like QPR who were stuck in the championship doing **** all during that period.

All they had to do was spend a few quid in the January of the relegation season and all would be well in my mind. I don't really care who owns us or how they treat the manager etc.

 

The stand is a house of cards, which looks almost just about ok in 2d, but is actually very very ****. Our whole stadium is, to be frank. The 3 other stands, built on the cheap during different eras and having far outlasted their reasonable shelf lives.

If we are rightfully a top 30 club, we've probably got a top 60 stadium, if that.

 

You're forgetting the Norman Wingback we signed in 1216 who cost 12000 Marks and was appalling as well as a reputed heretic.

 

Remember when it was leaked we were looking at options for a new stadium and the fanbase went crazy? Petitions and everything.

The majority of fans do not want us to progress.

The last 6 or 7 years for me has been like falling out with a close relative. Deep down you will always love them but it doesn’t stop you hating them too.

No they weren’t. We had far better chances than them. They had a lot of the ball first half but did nothing with it

 

The most toxic one of the lot was Capoue. Getting rid of a load more such as Quina, Gray etc in the summer I thought would help but we are in the same boat.

It is a cultural thing - we are so short term in our thinking that we are effectively playing with a team of loanees who don't really care.

 

People may not like it but we’re no worse than many clubs. Lots of fans don’t like the owners, want mangers replaced after 10 games etc. This is football in 2022. Ruined by Sky and the money given to players. I see a few wishing for a return to players like Whichelow and league 1. I 100% guarantee there would be a lot more complaining if that’s where we were.

 

Yeah but 75% of that 75% possession was passing it across the back, side to side. I had enough of that after 5 minutes!

 

So in conclusion the penny-pincher has one of these as his office (canteen) chair
