Highlights were good, but commentary shocking. No excitement in his voice for any of the goals, describing them with the same fervour as a throw in.
He did the underlapping full back thing and got into advanced positions towards the middle a couple of times but generally I thought he was far less effective than Ngakia on the other side at getting up and down overall. He also made a couple of useful blocks in the early stages when QPR were making a token effort of pressing for an equaliser. Presumably Lewis will be first choice LB and then it's between Ngakia and Andrews for RB - in which case taking off Morris gave both 45 mins to audition for the role on Saturday.
Yes and crowd noise seemed suppressed. Perhaps they had to dampen the crowd noise so it would be possible to hear the quiet disinterested commentary ?
Seen a fair few 'it was only QPR we'll struggle against better teams' type comments, but QPR were equally **** during the last 6 months of last season and they still bullied us all over the pitch and beat us 1-0. The biggest positive from that game for me is that it would appear that, the other team doesn't just have to turn up, work hard and get in our faces to get a result against us at home this season. (Caveat it's only one game, but the signs are positive).
The boy has done a good job, can't take that away from him, but he obviously watched the entire match through his phone, which I find kind of bizarre. Even when we scored he wasn't jumping about, just calmly panned around the stands. It must be a generational thing, because I don't get this film every moment culture, I personally prefer to live it in the moment.
Then if a team tries to match us in midfield, a switch to longer balls may come in handy. That was what Slav was so good at. Switching the tactics and personnel quickly when necessary.
Some stats from the game - Only Norwich created more xG than us out the entire league. - No team conceded less xG - Bayo has the highest xG in the league so far (1.23 xG)
Probably worth mentioning that despite Valerin Ishmael supposedly getting found out at The Baggies his side still had a decent XG rate and if they had scored the chances that they created would have been around the automatic places. Additionally, one of the most significant criticisms of Valerin Ishmaels West Brom side was that teams worked out that they preferred to play without the ball and teams sat back against them and allowed them to have the ball because they couldn't break them down (even so as I already mentioned they had a decent XG rate). QPR we're terrible on Saturday but they certainly allowed us to have the ball and we punished them.
Does that suggest that a fair score based on chances created would only have been 2-0 to us ? Surprising.
Great stat image there. Hopefully that left hand side will start to match the right when Jamal Lewis gets up to speed. We will absolutely concede stupid goals but at least I can see the method here. Been a long time since we had one.
Pretty much - Louzas goal was really low xG (0.03) as was Martins (0.06). Bayos goal was the highest xG chance (0.87) but most of our other chances weren't that high quality, we just took a lot of them. Registered 0.10 xG on that shot, so basically accounted for a third of their total!
I'm guessing that people that film games like this get their buzz from the likes/shares/views their subsequent video get rather than the actual game itself. We spend enough of our lives these days on the phone, it's enjoyable to put it away for 90 minutes and focus completely on something else but each to their own.
All about opinions but this highlighted part is a little strange. You say it was a lot more even but then say they had a chance on 50 mins and never opened us up again yet we created lots more shooting opportunities! Doesn't sound very even to me!
Wtf is xG? I have not got a clue and bet I am not the only one. Can we have list of all these abbreviations for me and my fellow numpties! Thanks.
Those seem really odd XGs. Perhaps I don't understand but I get that Bayo's chance may have been .87 ie 87% likely to score, but Louza's only 0.03, 3%, 3 times out of 100 attempts ?? and Martins only 6 out of every 100 attempts ? Both seem really low, esp Louza's.
XG = expected goals. A very good chance will be closer to 1 and a real outside chance would be closer to zero. A team with xG of 2.33 would be expected to score 2 or maybe 3 goals on average based on chances created.
The balance of play in the second half was very even. We created a lot more chances. But they had the ball a lot and were certainly competitive and in the game in the second half. There was another chance I forgot about when Bachmann was lobbed but the ball went a bit too wide to score from.
Bit late to the party here but I hope there are a few embarrassed individuals after some of the posts on here just after the team was announced. Before anybody has a pop at me, I include myself in these people though. I didn't post on here but sat in the pub saying what an absolute bag of sh1te this team looked and we are in big trouble. Fast forward to just gone 5pm and I look a bit of a prat! Hugely entertaining, superb effort throughout, Dave the Georgian looks a player. The bloke from Chile was outstanding. The fact that our fourth goal (the best of the lot for me) involved a good through ball from Ngakia, an excellent cross from The Bloke from Chile and a decent finish from Bayo, three of the most maligned players in the squad pleased me the most. Nobody was poor but I do worry about the centre backs and keeper a little bit. I know we won't sign a keeper but another centre back I would say is a must . It would have been nice to have scored more of course but we still created chances and Begovic alone stood between us and a very embarrassing scoreline for QPR. I know many have said QPR were awful and yes they were but don't take away anything from what has been our best performance easily since the scum at home Happy days
They might have had more of the ball but being competitive is pushing it slightly and they were never in the game. 3-0 in the second half would not have been unjust
They seem right to me, which is why I am always shouting "don't shoot" when players get into those positions. But my son always rolls his eyes at me when I do!
I completely agree. I thought Louza could have kept going and walked it into the net they gave him so much space.
Feels right to me. Louza was miles out, had to bend it round defenders, right into the side netting and couldn’t hit it that hard. And Martins probably couldn’t score off his back like that again if he tried.
