I can’t stand Mings. Not only is he massively overrated but he walks around so arrogantly, makes some horrific & dangerous challenges, throws elbows and just has the sulkiest, punchable face.

Agree that we need another midfielder, possibly 2 if Hughes and Chalobah go. Also agree we need another defender

    Fantastic start to the season!

Would loved to be proved wrong all season.

Despite the result, the Sierralta omission baffles me (although maybe it has been explained already)

I saw someone say the same thing, but Palace lost 3-0 at home to Huddersfield in their opening game in 2017/18 and then lost their next six games without even scoring a goal. They also sacked De Boer at the same point we sacked Gracia. If only we'd got the replacement right from the outset as Palace did, but ah well, we're back and if we stay up, all is forgiven!

I only gamble with money l am happy to lose.
I make no secret of my concerns for our survival, but l acknowledge that every Watford fan has different ideas and views. I would never wish to spoil their enjoyment of supporting Watford.
The whole point of these club forums is to give fans a voice.
There are some good comments and some of utter garbage, but who cares? I never take any remarks towards my comments to heart.
The reality is that none of us on here will make a blind bit of difference to how the club is run or who plays in the team.
Most on here get this, but some don't and that's ok.
I do find fans podcasts are mainly full of ********. They don't enjoy being criticised and it just ends up in an argument as their view is the only view. It's my ball and l'm taking it home syndrome.
I have watched some segments of the WD18 podcast. It is more aimed at my 9yr old than adults, but good luck to them. They are enthusiastic, but there is a World outside the bedroom.

I really rate Buendia…. But I’m pretty sure he’s been total and utter anonymous shyte in every game we’ve ever played against him?

I think you'll find that Gomes, Foster, Loach and Almunia were modern goalkeepers and that Bachmann is our first post-modern one.

    Edit timer expired:

I don't think he will make Worldie saves very often like Foster can potentially, but he almost never concedes a soft goal either off the top of my head. Only one I can think of is v Bournemouth last Season. He's a solid, dependable goalkeeper with a good level of concentration and ability on the ball.

We can do better than him if we spend significant money for a keeper who can do what he does and pull of a greater number of saves but he's more than good enough for our needs and will only get better.

100%; weird eh - there were one or two moments of amusing deja vu, where Buendia found himself with the ball on the very edge of our box, and looking up almost instantly found himself semi-encircled by about 5 yellow shirts you-shall-not-passing him, at which point he lost the ball/was robbed and we broke. It looked exactly like the Norwich matches last season.

I’m incredibly baffled by Cleverley bashing.

Experienced, energetic player who cares about the club, always does a good job, 14 caps for England.

But our moronic fans think he’s some kind of problem. Baffling stuff.

Thank you very much. At last some credit ;)
Bachmann was going to thank me personally. Unfortunately, the club had drawn lines to comply with the covid distancing rules and Bachmann was never going to come off his line, so he just shouted "Dankeschon" to me. Now, calling he is good at.

Literally completely irrelevant at this point. He's 32 and hasn't played for England in nigh on a decade.

No one doubts his experience or commitment. Yes, he works hard, he's just painfully limited in terms of his actual footballing ability.

1 assist and involved in the first goal too. Great performance, glad to see he carried on his excellent form from last season.

Let's hope it continues, although I wouldn't mind him rotating with Louza. I do think we'd miss his energy and organising, mind. He's a great captain, leads by example and the players clearly respect him.

Just got back from game and reading through the days posts .

Even by the exceptionally low standards of a small cabal of hysterical posters on this forum ,the comments from 14.01 pm were a sight to behold .

Thanks guys you made me smile even more than normal .

What a great start. Travelled to Dublin today to see the All Ireland football final. Went up early to get a few drinks in and went to a sports bar, only to discover that the match was being being shown on one of the 100s of TV screens. Had a large number of beers and enjoyed the great spectacle before heading into Croke park to see Mayo beating Dublin. One of those truly memorable days. Thought that we performed very well. Villas first goal was a worldly that we could do little about. 2nd goal was a lapse by the otherwise excellent Masina. Brilliant debuts, stunning goals, 3 points, saw the game live while having pints with a mate (who was a hornet for the day), what more could you want?

Kucka and Etebo were excellent. The dribblers who think Deeney picks the team will no doubt give him enormous credit for the team selection today - he got it spot on.

Every debutant was really impressive. The score line flattered Villa in truth - we were great and they were dreadful. Schoolboy stuff from Masina for their penalty.

Incredible to be back at the Vic in my seat after 18 months away, and good to see some regular faces back.

I think even some of Cleverley's advocates are selling him a little short by saying he works hard, is committed etc. WatfordTalk just beat me to it, but I'll add he also has a great footballing brain, working as a team player and being in the right place at the right time, that's how he played a vital part in our third goal when other players would have missed such an opportunity and he was such a driver in our crucial win at Norwich last season which avoided a nervy finish in the promotion race. He also tackles well, and has only received one straight red which was very early in his career and not many yellow cards, which is impressive in itself for a combative midfielder. Who's to say we would have won if he hadn't been playing as we might not have had such a cushion going into injury time?

He's no Kante of course, but he does the job he's supposed to do for us perfectly competently.

I’m sorry I just don’t see the liability here. Plays the high press that Xisco wants very well. Presence of mind set up our third. Good footballer. Clearly I’m missing something.

Watched the full match on Sky earlier tonight and Deeney did not look good, unfortunately I think despite his efforts to actually get fit this season, he is quite frankly just passed it.

Come on Troy just accept that your best days are behind you and do yourself and WFC a favour by moving on to a lower standard where you can carry on playing gracefully to see out the twilight of your once illustrious career.

Lloyd Doyley syndrome. Where Lloyd was dependable, committed and actually a very good defender he wasn't Roberto Carlos as some wanted but he was a good player. Cleverley isnt Kante or Beckham or Gerrard or even Capoue, but hes a good player. Also like Cathcart, he appears to be blowing after 15 minutes which gives the false impression he isnt able to keep up.

In sure Grealish offers something. He's not for me though, IMO Man City have bought a show pony with some fancy tricks not a race horse.

Also there had been a lot of concern on here about Troost-Ekong's distribution prior to the game, but I thought he did very well yesterday, don't remember him putting a foot wrong in possession.
