I think we have very noble intentions, which is good, but make too many silly mistakes, which isn’t. We have a smallish squad, which is probably good for fostering team spirit and making everybody feel wanted, but which puts us a big risk of being weakened by injuries, which isn’t. We seem to have unearthed a striker who can score goals, which is good, but a team that doesn’t often spot his runs or feed him the ball, which isn’t. We have a keeper who makes terrific saves, which is good, but who remains prone to stupid errors, which isn’t. So far this season, we’ve won a match we probably shouldn’t have, which is good but also failed to win a match (or two) that we should have, which isn’t. In other words it’s a mixed bag of a start. Everybody will take from it what they wish. I’m enjoying the season, admit to being pleasantly wrong by VI so far, see our limitations and try not to get over-excited, and equally I do fear that a poor run or key injuries (which may have started last night) could soon de-rail us, and then it’s anybody's guess how the short-sighted ownership react.
46 games in total. 46 fanbases. Minus our own. Stick to grammar and leave maths to the rest of us sweaty. xx
Bachmann did this on a few occasions last night, the problem was its to Ngakia and Morris who have awful first touch
Idiotic mistakes by both fullbacks have cost us. But I suppose that's where we are at, at the moment. Decent game in carp conditions though. There's stuff to like and dislike but it's done now.
I still go to the games, but it’s out of some type of loyalty and habit. I don’t look forward to it and even when we win I know ultimately it’s not leading to anything. If you can isolate the games as a series of friendlies, then it’s ok, as this is how I feel about it. I really don’t care too much if we win, lose or draw. “we’re in a rebuild” is the line Gino wants you to believe and many have swallowed it. I think we’re in a period of nothingness. I can’t believe in anything they do as there is no ambition. It’s something to do on a Saturday afternoon. This is where Gino has taken me to in my support for the club and I hate him for it.
For someone who doesn’t believe in anything the club do, you sure do spend a lot of your life going on and on about said club. And for someone who doesn’t care whether we win, lose or draw you certainly like publicly expressing how much you think one of those three will happen any given match-day.
I am kind of with you. I went to games for the past 3-4 years out of habit and routine, and because I consider myself a watford fan. Luton 4-0, that Man Utd 4-1 - I remember enjoying those two matches. Outside that it's been a joyless process and it was costing me nearly 500 quid a year and a lot of my time. I quit and when I see results come in like home win vs Brum and draw vs West Brom, they sound like exciting games, at least in part. but I really don't give a ****. You're spot on that nothing is being built. What's happened is purely a readjustment to being a bottom 10 Champ side, with the hope that at some point over the next ten years we get lucky with some amazing loanees or an inspirational manager and go up again. In the meantime, if we manage to build a side with an identity in terms of style and players who actually want to be at the club, maybe it will become fun again. I think we've taken a step towards that, but we're still lightyears away from it as long as Gino remains in charge, as I am sure he will revert to usual habits soon enough.
I don't claim to speak for HB1 (he is perfectly able to do that) but for myself, just because I don't care about Ngakia, Livermore, Ince, Bachman, VI, Gino, doesn't mean I am not harbouring a deeper sense of loyalty, awaiting the day that our club returns to a state where I can once again feel justified in supporting it.
I will always support the club. It's in my DNA and not thinking about the club is like not thinking about my family. It's a close and personal thing. But sometimes you have to dial out emotionally because it's just so sh1t or you are firmly against the BS that's being thrown at you. I want to go back to the days when we're REALLY building something and I'd be all in with the highs and lows. But this ridiculous pretence that we've turned the corner and we're building something I just despise. Being taken for a mug. Some will believe it but I'm not buying it for one second. We're doing everything on the cheap. No investment. So Gino says to SD, how do we package that? Easy, just get Luther onboard, throw in a couple of academy kids, make noises about investing in the head coach and the fans will love it.
It's a crazy move from Bachmann. I have no idea what he was trying to do there. Wasn't just a free kick, it was a free goal. Stay still and it goes straight into his arms.
Has the been many examples, in the last 30 years, of us 'building something'? GT's second coming? The start of the Pozzo reign? Seems quite an abstract concept to conditionally tie your support to. All I know is I've been to 3 home games this season (QPR, Brum, WBA) and I've enjoyed them all. Watching a more limited set of players, who actually seen to give a ****, is enough for me.
Video of the free kick from behind the goal. Definitely was too easy to let in . https://twitter.com/kingsebi26/status/1704631945013936618
It's not even a matter feeling being connected or disconnected to the club, but with us in our current position, wins, draws and defeats just feel less important given that we are less likely to go up or down than at any point in the last 5 years. It's refreshing in a way, you can enjoy results for what they are rather than constantly compare ourselves to other teams, and the team is in general more arsed about their work than previous teams
The leak was insane last night. Glad I wasn’t sitting underneath it. Fortunately whoever did would have a pick of alternative seats.
Something I’ll be asking on the stats thread for confirmation - but it looks like we are very good at quickly regaining possession from the opposition. One of the best I’ve seen is do this in the 1st half yesterday. It’s being done in a different way but reminds me of our FA Cup Final season (not from the semi final onwards) when Capoue and Doucoure in particular were monsters in midfield.
This is the thing for me - I'm sure it's because I've become an entitled spoiled brat over the past decade (minus the majority of most recent half of it, of course) but what the situation we find ourselves in seemingly quite clearly means just isn't very interesting. As it stands, I'm still using nefarious means to earn the privilege of paying the club to view video coverage of the matches, so I've not yet broken free of the underlying grip of Stockholm Syndrome, but it just seems so clear that thanks to the stupid window and the deficiencies of our squad, we are not going to particularly build anything of worth over the season and will at some point be derailed massively by a devastating (but not necessarily even that wide) injury crisis. As a result of that, we won't be competing for anything at all, and we won't greatly be able to expect to even compete in individual games with the teams sitting at the top of the table. As it unfolds, I'll keep watching, finding the results (the ones that aren't good) equally more depressing and frustrating because of what I dreamily imagine they could have been in my mind's eye, had Gino et al not just carried on with more of the same pant-seat-flying under his latest guise of reinvention. Minute-to-minute the games are usually more exciting to watch, but when it comes to results, overall matches, and hope, it seems pretty similar, to me. Of course, if Ismael pulls off some incredible magic, and we have even more black magic voodoo luck when it comes to injuries than we did in the last promotion season, perhaps we will manage a late flirt with playoff contention and I'll seem 30% foolish. I still hope, even though I expect far less.
Btw just to enter the discussion, I believe that everybody posting about their emotional attachment or lack of etc is posting what THEY feel. It’s like posting a movie review or telling us about a holiday they have. It’s uniquely personal to them. If you’re unhappy with the current state of the club, no amount of other supporters telling you they aren’t will change your mind! There isn’t a right or wrong way to feel here, merely an individual way. And we are all individuals, seeing and experiencing things differently and uniquely. It’s about as futile as disagreeing about predictions! I feel sad to read some are so unhappy or feeling detached with things. Supporting WFC has brought all of us joy and maybe even comfort over our lifetimes and it’s really sad when that stops and supporting us becomes a habit rather than a pleasant. I hope enough good things happen this season to re-kindle enthusiasm and being others back into the fold but again that’s a matter for each individual. Again speaking only personally, when I say I no longer care about something, actually I really do and it’s a defence mechanism and my way of projecting my anger at what’s made me appear apathetic.
Glad that we have decided it's ok to score goals. And the squad attitude seems better. And I have no complaints about the manager. It's the squad that's the problem.
Not the owners choice to play the starting full backs instead of Lewis and Andrews. They can't be blamed for everything
His positioning was fine. It was the first movement that did for him. I guess he thought they would go over the wall but he should let the wall do their job and he takes care of his side. His fault for the goal but more than made up for it later. I really don't get this hate for this guy. He's passionate, wants to play for the club and makes fantastic saves. Does he make errors? Of course he does which is why he's a mid table Championship side but there are worse keepers than him in this league
