Big week end coming up, I have a feeling the Spammers are going to lose to Norwich, which will bring them right back into the relegation picture.

Therefore if we can compound that by beating the Geordies, we will be looking really good for survival, especially if the Muff and Villa lose their respective games in between.

Realistically Spam won’t lose to Norwich but we can always hope, typical I think that Newcastle got spanked tonight because they’ll probably come to our place to turn us over, exact same thing happened with Burnley, a side with nothing to play for with injuries and a few days less rest and they beat us without a problem with a typical Burnley goal and score line, hopefully Bournemouth and Villa lose tomorrow and I’m confident of staying up, hopefully with a bare minimum of at least a win in the next 2 games

Newcastle have lots of injuries . Let’s hope Saint Maximin is out as he’s by far their most dangerous player.

Then we might be able to spare the goal difference from a hammering and only lose by one or two.

Or were they just being saved for a game where they will actually be able to attack?

Good job Bournemouth have Man City too so their goal difference will get even worse.

Agree that we should calm the Deeney vitriol. It’s not Deeney’s fault that he continuously plays, despite being well past his peak.

The man is a club legend and should remain so. Don’t let the clubs chronically failing transfer policy ruin his legacy, by exposing his ageing, depleting talent.

Unfortunately, I left my entry level Samsung at home that day. All I had was an easel and a few oil paints. I'm no Gustav Klimt but I was able to create quite an accurate representation of events. Great reminder that our 65k/week talisman can still score the occasional penalty and celebrate like he's just shagged Leigh-Anne Pinnock.

Villa and Muff lose tonight (unlikely)
Us and West Ham win Saturday (very very unlikely)

Would that make a `gentlemans` draw next week against the Spammers enough to keep us both up?

You'd need Villa and Bournemouth to lose again at the weekend, and then probably midweek too.

I notice our game against West Ham is the last of that round of PL fixtures. Bournemouth and Villa play 3 times while we only play once before next Friday. So it's possible we could kick off against West Ham with both teams knowing a draw would do the business.

Or marooned, 5 points below Muff and AV ....??

That's also possible I guess. Must be up there with being struck by lightning chances-wise though.

It's unlikely though a little more likely than being stuck by lightening :)
It's also pretty unlikely we will be 7 points clear come Sunday evening.
My guess is we will get a point vs NU, Bournemouth will beat spurs this evening and AV will beat CP both losing their other game, so both 2 points behind us on Sunday evening before they play midweek.

Palace are a fuuny team ..

They beat Bournemouth then play 3 games where they look hopeless ni then give Chelsea a good game only just losing.

Hopefully Zaha can knock one in or dive over for a penalty.

But tbh wouldn't be surprise if Villa win that one or Bournemouth get a point v Leicester..

I can't see Muff or Villa doing much tonight but their games at the weekend look much more winnable. If we somehow come out of that with a lead of at least 3pts and a better goal difference than both there will be real pressure on them in the week, when Muff go to Man City and Villa go to Everton.

We need to be as solid as possible against nuked-assholes. I assume Danny'll b on the bench as part of managing his return. I'd play something resembling 451 and then change it in the laat 30 mins if required. Mr Blobby will no doubt b 'leading' the line. Biggest risk is leaving Kiko exposed to St Max, so maybe we need to have Sarr tracking him. If we end the game with Sarr Welbeck Pedro up front we might nick a goal in the later stages.

    Geordie in peace,

We've played well in a couple of games since the COVID break, but don't kid yourself, we're not great. Pre-break we were among the worst in the league for goals for and goals against, poor for chances created and conceded, xG, xGA, possession. Hell, our 'keeper had more passes than anyone else in the team!

If ASM and Almiron are back I'll be much, much more confident of getting a result and there's a concern on Tyneside that those two were rested for our surrender against Man City.

We also missed Lascelles for the Man City game and if we have to start Schar at CB in a back four, your forwards could have a lovely old time. I like Schar, but he's too slow and too rash to play in anything but a back 5.

Bit conflicted because obviously I want to win every game, but if 3pts for you sends Aston Villa down, I'll enjoy that way mucho.

No CB is too slow when it comes to marking Deeney.

You scored 4 goals in one game the other week. That makes you lot tantamount to prime Barcelona from where we’re sat.

He marks the centre back rather than the other way round. It's the best way to build his brand and guarantee a constant stream of pointless "strongman" tussles miles away from the opposition box.

We were great in that game, helps when the other team doesn't show up. Same happened last night except we didn't show up. If you don't press us and if ASM and Almiron are fit then yeah we've got the attacking midfielders to damage. If you put us under any kind of pressure we'll be relying on ASM to beat 2 or three men to create a chance.

If we play Gayle, Joelinton, Almiron and ASM we'll have a mobile forward line. If 2 of those four aren't playing we're pretty blunt up front.

Some footballers of vastly more talent and ability than Deeney have done the honourable thing in the past for their team. They want to play but they know in their heart of hearts that they are not fit enough or able to make enough of an all round contribution. In playing they realize they hurting their own team. Deeney should do the same. This talismanic nonsense is just that. Football always has been and always will be a game decided by a group of individuals even if one is exceptionally gifted like a Maradona or Messi. They still need a competent framework around them.

We need to play as a unit from back to front and also end this idea we are a one man team which has been popularized in the press over recent years. Deeney has been great for the club (although this idea of having a statue seems far fetched considering Cliff Holton and Luther are more deserving) but every player reaches a time in their career when they know it is time to call it a day and his is drawing closer or should have been brought to a close in the last season or so. You cannot rely on sentimentality or nostalgia or the misplaced belief that having a named player on the pitch brings some mythical benefits. It doesn't.

I think Bruce made six changes and then used 5 subs during the game so it looks very much like, forget City away, we will get stuffed whoever plays and lets concentrate on the Watford gane. I'll be very surprised if ASM and Almiron are not back but I hope they're not, especially ASM.
We've been mostly rubbish for a while but hopefully winning our last game has given us a bit of confidence. How come you want Villa to go down? I do as well but that's fairly obvious

Because Villa gloated when they sent Newcastle down in 2009 ish.

I agree that Newcastle were pretty much saving their attacking players for a more defensive approach v City which didn't work.

I expect those 2 to be back on Saturday.

I’d have giant stone statues lining Occupation Way, like those in Lord of the Rings.

Club legends like Deeney, Doyley, Blissett and Wooter could lead us to our seats and remind us of our great history.

As the other lad said it's tied to the rivalry they fabricated in 09. Up until then, they were just a beige club with no real meaning to us. Look, laughing at a club like Newcastle going down is fair game, but to go to the effort of making banners? Nah, not for me. They repeated the trick for our second relegation under Ashley. Now they try to claim that we're the ones kicking up a fuss.

Plus, they're boring. So very boring. If they were music they'd be yawnmongers. If they were bread they'd be own brand wholemeal. If they were a flavour of ice cream, it'd be sand.
