Must be incredibly deflating to go into the playoffs having let not only Andre Gray hit the net, but Isaac Success too. How **** must they be?
What an odd game to finish the season on. After seeing the squad I entirely expected us to let in a few and possibly threaten the 'haven't conceded more than 2 in a game all season' stat. Instead we see some - dare I say it - 'decent' performances from our 'second string' against arguably, Swansea's first XI. Pleased we didn't have any pressure for the final two games as i'm sure they would have been entirely different affairs. Good to get other players some minutes, but absolutely delighted we finished the season off with a fairly comfortable 2-0 home win, another clean sheet, and over 90 points. A great season after a 'slow' start. Ultimately well done Watford. A busy summer lies ahead!
Well that was fun - most enjoyable to watch a win with zero resting on it and goals for the chuckle brothers up front. All washed down with some decent beer
So Lazaar's career here reads: 3 sub appearances totalling 50 mins. 1 awful performance against Luton. 1 MOTM performance against Swansea. I wouldn't want him up against Salah next season but surprised he's so hated after such a small role.
Navarro didn't do a lot wrong! Success did nothing but score a good goal Gray did a lot of off the ball running and scored! Lazaar only had a contract until the end of the season, so hopefully we will never find out if he can repeat todays efforts!
Great way to end the season. Line up had me nervous. Lazaar definitely motm. Trying to earn a new deal. Hopefully we’re not stupid and offer him one though. Joint best defensive record. No team done the double over us. We never suffered back to back defeats 19 home wins in a season, most ever for us. Has to be up there as a championship record as well. 24 clean sheets I think. Record for us and the championship? Again, has to be up there. 9 straight wins at home, record? 91 points, highest points ever earnt. I’m sure there is more, but all of this achieved whilst in the middle of a pandemic, no fans, 10 players at the start of the season, negative mindset of players, Ivic negative tactics and so on. What we have achieved this season is phenomenal. I’ve been one of Gino’s biggest critics. He shut me up (for now). Xisco was a great appointment. It wasn’t luck or a fluke, you have to hold your hands up and say, well played Gino. He brought in the right man for the job. The turnaround has been fantastic and Xisco has got the players loving football again. We’re premier league!! We get to enjoy the two favourites for the playoffs battle it out now as well. One of Brentford and Bournemouth is not making it to the final. Then Swansea Barnsley will be another good playoff. Hopefully it’s a Brentford Barnsley final with Barnsley winning it.
Dont know why some are slagging off certain players. We played a team of mainly backup starters and won the game and kept a clean sheet in the process. Let us all enjoy a win for a change.
Can't understand some of the pre-match comments. Why risk getting important players injured on a game that has absolutely nothing riding on it? I bet those complaining about the "disgraceful" lineup would have been enraged at Xisco if the likes of Hughes, Chalobah or Sarr had started and then done in their cruciate ligament. Protecting the squad was absolutely the right thing to do, and doing it by using players who we know won't be here next year (such a Lazaar) was a solid decision. Today was worth even less than a pre-season game to us. It's coming before the players go on holiday and thus any fitness gains won't mean a thing. There was nothing to gain in putting out a good first 11 and everything to lose.
When I saw that lineup I was certain we'd end the season on a limp note, but this incredible home run shows no abating. It's just incredible. 19 wins 2 draws and 2 defeats. Even those defeats shouldn't have really happened. Last minute against QPR and Perica missed a sitter in the final minute against Cardiff. One of those draws could have been a win as well, with that harsh last minute equalizer against Bournemouth. So it could have been even better than it was. Another clean sheet, making that 23 from 46 league games. Only 30 conceded all season. On par with the record low for the Championship. The best home record in the club's history. Probably the best home record in Europe, certainly in England. No one got the double over us and we were the only Championship side not to lose 2 games on the spin over the entire season. 91 points is a stunning return. Would have won us the league in that 2014/15 season. I'll need to check the history books, but it must be in the top 3 for a points total in Watford's history, in any division. So well done Watford, you delivered and put right the wrongs of last season. Now the hard work begins and we must ensure we are strong enough to stay up. Maybe today has put a little bit of doubt in the minds of the decision makers, but I hope they already have worked out who is consistently performing and who plays well only very occasionally.
We are enjoying the win. Why can't we do both. Enjoy the win AND slag off certain players who are stealing a living.
Got to admit struggled to watch us as had derby game on at same time. Sanchez looked calm in possession, Gray could of done with that fluke months ago, Success goal of season Great to break some records Big summer ahead Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
And here’s a little quiz question.. Before Xisco who was the last Watford manager to win our final match of a season?
Boothroyd. Think we stuffed Coventry 4-0 away. Before that, GT possibly? Beat Coventry at the Vic 1-0 Helguson overhead kick.
Chalobah's left leg was seen in a cast at the end of the game when he was congratulating from the sidelines, so might be already too late for that somehow!
Was going to post, but London has nailed it. Unexpected result and unlikely scorers, but very enjoyable.
I'm worried that Gray & Success scoring in the same match might be one of the signs of the apocalypse. Has that Chinese rocket crash landed yet?
Fingers crossed it was some kind of op they postponed until promotion secure rather than anything new and serious...
