And so a season that started with Pedro, Dennis and Sarr up front, a young coach who was promised the earth and a victory over a side who went on to win promotion and reach a Wembley cup semi-final ends with that shameful looking line-up, a lack of opportunity for many of the younger players we might need to rely on more next season and a place in the top half of the table by no means certain. A shameful indictment on a 9 months that has been wasted by the powers that be.
There really should be no delay this evening in the club releasing a statement acknowledging this (and previous) season(s) failures and mistakes, whilst also announcing Wilder has left. Yes, it’s something we have seen and heard before. Old hat. It would rightfully be pulled apart, ridiculed, called lies and much much more. But I don’t think they should also just slink off and acknowledge at some point in the week (if at all).
Steward gestapo out in full force today Just tried to confiscate a banner with ‘cowards’ written on it in the Rookery. 4 or 5 of them deployed to try and get it Vile little bootlickers
Must be his agent !? From BBC: “One of Watford's bright notes this season Keinan Davis gets a second for theHornets, as his deflected shot goes in” Good goal by Louza. Rare moment of quality .
It's been a great season. To finish top half with the limited resources at our disposal is a massive credit to this club and the owners. As usual we are punching well above our weight and hopefully next season we can do the same and preserve our status in the rarified atmosphere of the Championship. Everyone from the owners to the players played no small part in what we have achieved this season.
Oh well. Never felt so flat after a win. The season has been dead for at least eight games so thank goodness it's over. What happens now is intriguing if not alarming. Will Pozzo trot out via his goon that " Lessons blah blah blah" or will there be a semblance of contrition? Meanwhile come on Boro, Sunderland, Coventry any or all. Wretched.
In the end we only finish 6 points outside the playoffs - maybe we should have just kept Bilic?! Some promising, some concerning signs today. Andrews keeps impressing. Maybe he could make the RB spot his next season. Porteous continues his run of seeming a bit of a liability - a few times today he managed to "clear" the ball right back in to the danger area. Kabasele actually looked more composed than him defensively. If Louza is still here next season he should be playing as the most advanced midfielder/10. He's looked a threat in attacking areas at times this season, but can't protect the back 4 to save his life. Davis manages to score with his right foot once it doesn't matter any more. Sema with another hustling and bustling performance helping to create another goal.
What a way to finish the season in style and cement a top half finish. The momentum we have built under Wilder bodes well for next season and if we can keep the nucleus of this team together I think we can aspire for a top 10 finish next year.
Really couldn't care less even though we won. Season has been a total disaster right from the moment the Edwards saga started. Bilic was useless, Wilder was a peeling sticking plaster and half this squad are rotten. All we can hope for now is as much of clear out as we can do, and that Manga and Costa have some real gems on our very limited budget up their sleeeves. Sema, Morris, Andrews, Asprilla and Blake are the only ones I would keep out of the current first eleven. We won't shift everyone we want to, but we need to make a sizeable dent in the clearout if possible. More disasterous banner milakey today.. but fan power won out for once. Gino the dictator did not win this one. Louza's goal was quite good, and Davis's goal summed up his season. Thank you everyone who has taken part in the Shout Box throughout this season - it's made the labour a lot easier to get through. Here's for a much better campaign next season - but I can swear I said that last season....
In a perverse way, I suppose today was a reminder that we're not the only team who are in a rut, with apologies to all Stokies out there!
He's targeting the wrong people. This season is on gino, a culmination of his recruitment and total lack of any attempt at team building over the previous 3 seasons. Not the collection of loans and out of contract players that make up our team
I would agree had we not thrown away multiple games from winning positions. We were only five points from getting in the play offs
In the interests of balance Re. My earlier post on stewards, I actually had a chat with one of them close to the final whistle and was told: they’re agency staff not employed by the club and don’t care about Watford fans holding up flags or protesting They get messages in their ear pieces telling them flags have been spotted and need to be taken down The ‘Watford directors’ are those who should be blamed, stewards feel they are unfairly targeted by fans for carrying out their orders Massive pinch of salt obviously and not excusing their jobsworth antics but just relaying what I was told
Dike scored the same amount of goals as Davis in half the minutes. Cost them £7mil only last summer, mind. We could potentially recreate the Ismael - Dike dream team for next season (caveat, I don't want this to happen).
Well Louza scored a goal and Bachmann made a few decent saves . Have to say most of those walking around the pitch seemed to be youngsters and Porteous/Hoedt .
Quote: Have to say most of those walking around the pitch seemed to be youngsters and Porteous/Hoedt . This is the squad next season
Currently outside the ground with the kids. Kamara took off his jacket and was wearing a Brentford shirt. Hoedt on his own. Spoke to Morris and thanked him for putting a shift in unlike most of the rest.
Mowatt too. Depends on the system we go for but I’d take Conor Townsend, Okay Yokuslu, Dara O’Shea, John Swift, Jed Wallace, Daryl Dike, Grady Diangana, Brandon Thomas-Asante and maybe Karlan Grant too.
Did you see any of the Sunderland game? Had our bunch of clown’s who have disappointed all season, somehow pipped them to 6th, it would have been a travesty for all that should be good for football. People will no doubt say I’m not a fan etc for saying that. But they played with passion and fight for the club and city the play for. Our lot, bar a couple, don’t give a crap about the town or badge. Coming 6th wasn’t the barometer for acceptability that some fans think it was.
The time to sign Swift was last summer when he was on a free. Same with Yokuslu. Most of those players are surely too old to be in line with the profile of player Manga will go for. Diangana and Asante are also crap. Maybe O'Shea has an interesting profile, but I can't say I remember much about him.
