Since Rey Manaj’s cameo appearance last night it’s been bugging me who he reminded me of in terms of build and body shape. It’s just come to me tonight: Raphael van der Vaart.

I’m not saying our debt is manageable - I simply do not know. But debt cannot be considered in isolation. It needs to be balanced against potential revenue and assets. I don’t know the value of either in our case, especially because I don’t know how much we’ve drawn down the loans, or what the financial relationship is with Udinese, so cannot assess whether the debt is unmanageable. But comparing absolute debt values between competitive businesses (clubs) tells you little or nothing about the financial health of the individual businesses.

Watched it back tonight courtesy of the legend @reids and Cleverley wasn't quite as bad as I thought watching it from the stands. He can still do a job this season I think, just can't be starting every week

Kayembe was superb though, a lot better than I realised during the game

I think September was mentioned as a possibility for his return.

Hopefully he’s back and at full speed sooner rather than later, as we really lack a ball-playing midfielder without him on the pitch.

Sorry mate, but you must have been watching a different game to me as Kabaselle was our best defender last night, it was Cathcart who was shaky and made mistakes not Kabs.

Was great to be back at the Vic for what seemed like an eternity after catching Covid at the tail end of last season and missing a few games. The atmosphere was fantastic with some original songs and none of that "We've got the ball" rubbish. Thought the team looked lively and threatening but lacked an end product which I'm sure will come. Clevs was half decent just looked a bit lacking in times in possession. Sarr was double marked and struggled to impose himself, especially when we used him as a target man. Dennis was an absolute monster full of tricks and power, SU didn't have a clue how to stop him.

I thought Berge was SU's best player and wouldn't mind seeing him in our midfield.

All in it was a promising start to the season against a team many pundits are predicting to do well. Debating whether to go to West Brom now!

I think we wouldve won without Dennis but unlikely without Dennis and Sarr.

Apparantly the club are offering to loan both players with an option to buy if we're not promoted. Will be a very different season with both gone.

Its a fair point about goals and assists. Dennis would almost certainly beat Sarr over the season for goals and maybe assists too but in key moments like against Sheff Utd, Id rather have Sarr in the Champo and Dennis in the Prem. Sarr terrifies champo defenders, he alters the shape of the opposition and Fs with their mind.

If Sarr and Dennis go I guess we'll play 3 in midfield with Kayembe and Louza plus Asprilla/Cleverley/Gosling/TDB, there are many benefits to having a 3 man midfield but its obviously gonna be much tougher for us to score goals and get promoted without Sarr and Dennis.

Really though whatever happens this season our problem isnt the quality of our squad its the tragedy of our finances.

To be fair to 'clueless' SU, Dennis didnt score or assist. I love ED (Emmanuel Dennis not erectile disfunction) but he clearly didnt have his shooting boots on against SU.

Im not expecting him to stay goaless for long, if we have him for a few more games, but if SU 'didnt have a clue how to stop him' that suggests he failed to score or assist due to stopping himself which would be pretty weird.

Sigh, without Dennis Sarr doesn’t get his assist that you seem to place so high on a pedestal it supersedes absolutely everything else that happened in 96 minutes, even Pedro actually scoring the goal.

Agreed, if he had notched a goal it would have been an amazing performance but just couldn't strike the ball sweet enough which happens. He played a part in the goal and created a few other chances for team mates who also couldn't finish.

The club certainly aren’t offering Sarr and Dennis out on loan.

Even with the copious capabilities between them, I don't see a natural striker in Sarr, Dennis or Pedro. For all their 'terrifying' the Sheffield defence there were not many goal attempts forthcoming. Maybe something to praise Sheffield's defence for?
I'd like to see them apply Bobby Charlton's dictums: 'Hit it early, on target and hard (and let the goalkeeper worry about it)'.*
They are certainly talented, so maybe some coaching would help. Here's hoping.

*As actually happened with the goal.

Yes, thats exactly what I'm doing. In 2 years, if we dont get promoted, our income will be less than £25m and the cost of servicing our debt will take up a significant chunk of that, leaving us with very limited funds to cover running costs, no way to pay down the debt, the stadium in jeopardy and the vultures circling.

Being a small clib with a massive debt is a huge problem because, unlike a club the size of Derby, no potential buyer would be willing to buy a club our size that is so heavily in debt. The debt is astronomically disproportionate to the size of the club.

Its so annoying seeing Watford fans with a modicum of financial knowledge refering to that knowledge to justify their view that a tiny club with 30,000 active fans and a 9 figure debt, partially secured against their stadium, is anything other than completely fooked!!

Enjoy the next 2 years at the vic, they may be our last. See u at Cassiobury park!!

LOL what a load of verbal rubbish.

    To put it bluntly:

We have 1 major asset - the stadium

We have a 9 figure debt that will be extremely difficult to service after 2 years in the championship

The only real hope for the club is that our debt isnt a major concern within the context of the Pozzo family's business empire and their money can be moved around quite freely.

But if our only hope is the Pozzo family, who have spent the last 10 years destroying the culture of the club and turning it into this toxic artificial fake PR machine with very questionable financial practices, Id say we're in trouble either way.

It’s really not hard to formulate a coherent but robust post without having to resort to way over-the-top stuff like this - yet you seem totally incapable of it.

Not to mention I can see you’ve already had posts deleted this morning for posting potentially libellous stuff.

Isn’t Sarr out of contract in 2024 so we’d certainly be looking for a fee if we don’t go up and he is still come next year (2023 )?

As presume we wouldn’t be agree a loan deal with option to buy if he was a free transfer summer after ..

Least favourite part of Monday night is our fans recycling the same old songs but for different players. Can we not come up with something new instead of shoehorning names into the same chants?!?
