No easy games in the championship, if our attitude or concentration is a few points off Ipswich will punish us
Since the disappointment of Norwich, we've met every challenge presented to us. An in-form Leeds side. A Wigan team fighting for their lives. Ditto Fulham. Ditto Rotherham. A creditable draw against a Wolves side battling for the play offs. Every box has been ticked. Today brings another challenge. Another play-off chasing side, who've been out of form up to midweek. Canny manager, experienced players. I'm looking forward to seeing how we meet this challenge. On current form we should do, even if it's not pretty today. But of course we're Watford, so it's natural to feel a bit nervous, because it nags away at us at the back of our minds doesn't it that something might go wrong soon?! I don't know what's got into me but I'm just so confident right now that we're going up. I have been since Leeds. I even think we might stay unbeaten until the end of the season (though I think Forest away will be our toughest test). It's not arrogance or taking anything for granted, it's just seeing how we are meeting every challenge that comes our way right now. We have a Head Coach who picks the team and formation according to the challenge our opponents are likely to pose, and we have so many players in form. We'll start today knowing we can gain points today on at least 2 of the top 5 (Derby and Boro/Bmouth) and I fully expect us to take advantage, though there might be a few scares on the way. 2-1 Watford, and us to head into the break still top of the pile.
My team for today: Gomes; Motta, Connolly, Cathcart, Hoban; Guedioura, Watson, Tozser; Forestieri; Vydra, Deeney SUBS: Bond, Angella, Pudil, Anya, Layun, Munari, Ighalo Son of a b*tch - it was tough to decide that, particularly the bench, considering I had to leave Ekstrand and Paredes out, and make sure I was fulfilling the home-grown criteria and within the loans limit.
You may be right there. I would have a back three of Connolly, Angella and Cathcart. From what I've heard, Connolly is quite good in the air. We shall see...
Agreed. Also Joka has mentioned how he likes to feel his way into a game, and I think he finds 352 a nice base to test the waters in the first half. Gomes; Connoly Ekstrand Angella (or Cathcart if fit); Motta, Guedioura, Watson, Tozser, Hoban; Vydra, Deeney. Fessi on after 50 minutes if the game is level
If we keep our heads today there is no reason that we cannot beat Ipswich today, a win would position us nicely for our game against Derby and Boro, both of whom we are fully capable of beating.
Boro win 1-0, Watford thrash Ipswich best result Totally agree best result would be: Boro narrow win 1-0, Watford thrash Ipswich best result, we then 'deal with' Boro over Easter lol
Heading to my cousin's funeral today so the match will be taking a back seat for once, hope the result picks the day up a little anyway!
Sorry for your loss mate. Nervous does not even begin to describe how I feel about these next three games.
Ipswich Team to take on the Hornets Cipriani, Hartley, Haskell, Robshaw, Thomas, Twelvetrees, B Vunipola, M Vunipola, Wilson, Youngs and Daryl Murphy up front as the lone centre forward.
