    This.

He deserves more after his great half a season, four years ago.

    This.

36 goals in 83 games inc subs. Anyone who can produce that in half a season surely deserves a proper chance.

I can honestly see the viewpoint of those clinging on to vydra, as well as fessi and now abdi. At the time they arrived they were on a completely different level to anything we'd seen in decades. I'm just about too young to really remember the previous previous glory years and had my first season ticket watching the likes of Devon White.

They represented a massive change in the quality that we see while sitting in the stands and as a result the success it brought. That first season under Zola was unbelievable, but these were extremely good Championship players, but there is a major law of diminishing returns as you progress towards the top of the pyramid.

Fessi was flawed genius, vydra will have a field day against less mobile and specially aware defenders, Abdi will dominate a game as long as he doesn't have somebody equally as good closing him down.

In the Prem you can't just be tricky or a decent dribbler, or rely on pace against the last defender. You need to have a full locker and play to your better bits. I reckon that's why deeney has survived. He's a complete player on his day but there are many technically better players in our squad now.

Every time I watch a championship game now the difference is obvious, and we were blessed with an influx of great players who were too good for the championship, but maybe not quite at the level we are now striving for.
Move on, and FFS enjoy what we have now and what we can look forward to. I'm loving this!

Don't think anyone is "clinging on to" Vydra and pretty certain we are all enjoying what we have now. You carry on bonking your mate Bob.

Even if you view Okaka as a direct replacement for vydra we still made a small profit and we now have a player who is happy to sit on the bench, but when called upon won't sulk if he is brought on as shown already. Vydra would've been restricted to very rare cameo appearances, and as he has already shown he doesn't have the temperament to deal with that. Sometimes its not as black and white as just looking at the money.

Vydra is the best player I've ever seen.

Not sure why he wasn't given a chance here?!

If he scores 20 this season he'll be back from his loan and might yet still get a chance.

There isn't a current Watford player who I could conceive of doing this:

Capoue and Pereyra I could see doing this, though that's about it.

    I'd go with Maradonna

As to why he wasn't give a chance, your guess is as good as anyone else. Whatever the reason neither Joka, QSF, or Wally fancied him and they would have watched him in training every day.

For me he's a bit of a one trick pony. Admittedly it's a very good trick, but a prem striker needs an all round game.

So in the end Matej Vydra and Ikechi Anya lose to Tommie Hoban and a Danny Graham

Good to see Tommie getting some decent game time. Playing well too based on reports.

Derby are really in a pickle.

They have spent huge wads of cash in an attempt to leave the Championship.

It appears to be working, although not quite in the way they wanted!

    Poor Matty and Ketch.

Teams like Derby must look at the likes of us/Burnley and Bournemouth and think if only..

Is there a club that has wasted so much for so little..

There isn't a Watford player I could conceive of, full stop. I just don't have the right reproductive apparatus/equipment.

I reckon Kenedy and maybe Pereyra could. Just not at Burnley on a wet Monday night.

Had half a good season with us over four years ago, followed by a half decent season with us two years later, and coming up three abject seasons in between and after. It's not particularly surprising anymore.

He's a conundrum alright but his underwhelming premiership days can at least be attributed to better and quicker defenders. At a guess losing his sprightly youth and confidence accounts for the rest.
