he’ll get a move to a club where there’s stability and organisation. I think if you spoke to 90% of our players they hate how our club has run and the atmosphere they have to perform in. Can’t fault a player for wanting out of it, many have left and made comments about how poorly they were treated…
I've said my piece on him, but it wouldn't surprise me if he were to thrive in a more settled environment...
Well that already rules out every other club in the bottom half of the Championship. And I can't imagine him being a guaranteed starter in a current top-half team either. Only a few weeks ago TDB was stating how delighted he was with Clevs being manager. Hmm. Anyway, things don't seem quite so erratic at the club now, this season and the appointment of Cleverley does to me appear to indicate a concerted effort to shift the mentality of the club a bit. I suppose TDB has been there through a lot of the previous chopping and changing though so could have become a bit more jaded already. Some of the more recent signings appear to be more happy and committed than others in recent years. But also, things can't be that abysmal when you've had someone like Cleverley happy to stick around at the club through a lot of different roles.
Sema this week talked about how he was almost sold and made a few other comments about changing coaches is hard . They must get a bit frustrated and confused with the endless coming and goings although some probably cause it ! Well tbf no one is going to slag Cleverley off whilst at the club and nor is he particularly. Even at the fans forum Duxbury and Nani were there watching and listening to every word .
That's not the point though - it's more that he's still been happy to stay at the club for many years as a player, and then even taken a coaching role after he'd finished that; as opposed to being desperate to get away from a supposed "circus" as soon as he could.
So he can’t be happy about clevs being manager but still feel treated poorly and unhappy at the club? it’s not all as simple as liking one person to make things different unfortunately. Just use your head a bit and read interviews of players who have left and you will see that the manager hasn’t been the issue for years and years the issues are much more deep rooted than this. A manager might change the atmosphere in the changing room for a period but it will always be undermined by those in positions of power. Didn’t all the players love Ismael at the start too…
Yes guess so - they did offer him a job and Clev could have said no. Hopefully they will reward that trust and loyalty by giving him support in recruiting (Tom has already talked about his contacts ) and time. Scott Duxbury and Nani probably will but the main man ?
Maybe he'd been treated poorly by Ismael, but seemingly not by Clevs. As for previous managers, he hadn't been good enough or available enough to have even been treated poorly by them somehow.
To be honest if squad flotsam like TDB is starting to get narked and leaving in a huff there might be an upside to Pozzo's tyranny at last!
My guess is that the new economic reality of the club will be hitting home in any new contract offers to players coming off contracts signed when we were a prem club or had serious prem aspirations. He's probably disappointed with the figues and hoping to find a champ club not so constrained.
What was the story ? I assumed he'd refused to sign a new contract with relegation clause and so was made to train with reserves prior to exit ?
He was offered a contract that wasn’t much higher than his previous even though he’d played a big part in our promotion. he rejected as he knew what other plasters in the squad were earning (3-4 times that). He was offered another contract and verbally agreed. When he went to sign he was told they withdrew the offer and he was to leave the club
Exactly. TDB signed for us as a youngster in 2019 and is reportedly on 5k per week. Before this season he had 8 league appearances for us, this season he’s played 35 games in the league. He probably wants to triple his salary at this point but the club are still trying the lower their wage bill.
He's a very, very average player at best. I'll be amazed if he has managed to get a big move. Technically limited and has the heart of a mouse. A 24 year old midfielder with 80 odd appearances to his name tells it's own story. Injury prone and not very good.
I can’t stand him. Genuinely a woeful player who others nothing other than a little half turn here or there. League 1 is his level at best. He should be second out the door following Bachmann.
He seemed to have largely put that past him this season mind. And his recent performances under Clevs pointed to some improvement in his play. I agree though that I still can't imagine a bigger club going for him and giving him lots of minutes.
He singlehandedly cost us so many points this season with his overall play. I’m sure someone will quote that he won us 3-4 points and they stupidly believe that far outweighs all the points he’s cost us. However it doesn’t. He’s literally terrible. One of those players where you’re baffled that he managed to become professional somehow.
A player that doesn’t seem to excel at anything. Not sure the reason why he wants to go but if it’s because he thinks he should playing at a higher level he needs to give his head a wobble.
Peaked way too soon think it was less than 2 minutes in the first game of the season ,nothing to note after that,if he doesn't want to wear the shirt next season unfortunately I'm not going to lose any sleep as he is Bang average at best cheerio fella
Not too concerned if he were to leave but the recruitment this summer, on a shoestring, is going to be so important to turn this tanker round. Having just sacked the recruitment team (presumably at a cost) ? He may be bang average for this league, but it is going to be a challenge to recruit “bang average for this league” players when we have an empty wallet and are competing with other clubs for any decent players.
He's been decent, it not without his faults, as a sort of deep-lying playmaker under Clev, but if we don't carry on with a back 3, we'll probably need someone with a bit more steel in front of the defence. Accounting for the almost certain departures of Asprilla, Livermore and now TDB, our midfield is thinner, but in terms of quality it's OK for this level, Kone, Kayembe and Chak are all decent Championship players
Surely we are still sitting pretty with £15m of Bayat talent in Kalu, Bayo, Kayembe and Chakvetadze? Not many clubs at this level can afford to splurge on such gems and we know Gino wouldn’t use him if it didn’t benefit us. I make us 2nd jollies behind Burnley
TDB is exactly the kind of player we should try to keep. Perfectly servicable Championship midfielder in his mid-twenties who has just completed his first full and (mostly) injury free season with us. Yes, he has his shortcomings, but so does every other player that we can conceivably attract and afford at this moment.
Any idea why the ‘hierarchy’ decided to do that? I mean apart from Gino’s narcissistic mentality, requiring him to belittle anyone he thinks has stood up to him?
I know we're financially farked, but not being able to afford the wages for Tom Dele-bashiru?! That's a new level of farked.
More to the point why would we want to keep him? There must be better players in League 1 we could recruit. A footnote to his Watford career would be “regarded by many as a better player than Joseph Hungbo”
