That's nice but I wasn't talking about America I was talking about New York.

Midtown is very safe that's where the tourists go. Stray one or two blocks though and it's a different kettle of fish. In any event Yankees stadium (which is the area I was refering to) is way uptown and if you say you feel safe there at night you are either a bouncer or telling a porkie

All of that aside, what are you disagreeing with exactly? None of what I said was opinion it is all fact so pretty hard to disagree with I think.

New York has Americans, end of.

What's wrong with Elbow? Fine anthemic music..

Much prefer a manual gearbox to an automatic. More fun to drive but harder to get hold of in the US.

Cococobama/Rio. Been a few times. The first was with my wife for the carnival (February). The Sambadrome processions and events in dancehalls great but it wasn't exactly the enormous street party I'd been expecting. As for the Cococobana, well lots of beautiful young things half of whom were much more interesting than the other half. On my next trip (on business in November) it was a bit different. Looked out of my hotel window (right above the C.beach), it was drizzling and the only lifeforms on the beach were, I kid you not, nine feral pigeons. We stayed in a hotel above an all-weather soccer pitch on the first trip. Looked out of that window after a late night and a bloke with three legs scored a goal with his crutch. That's crutch not crotch. Maybe he scored with his crotch later, I dunno. But the best thing was it was 6 a.m. in the morning and that pitch was in use 24/7. Yep, including under lights all night every night.

S.F. Only been there briefly. As an outdoors kinda guy I often rate cities as much on the quality of the hinterland as on what goes on in the city itself. The coast both north and south of S.F. is wonderful as is the country inland - Yosemite etc. The biggest, tallest and oldest trees in the world. Take a whale-watching trip to the Farallon islands.

Vancouver. Spent a week there. I dunno. Seemed modern and cosmopolitan and happy in it's own skin but somehow a bit bland. Like S.F., surrounded by great country though.

It looks as if you are right. New York is much safer than Philidelphia

    http://os.cqpress.com/citycrime/2012/CityCrime2013_CityCrimeRankingsFactSheet.pdf

Crime rates in the USA are 4.7 per 100,000 and 8.8 per 100,000 in the Philippines, with Manila and Angeles City being the worse City's

Looking at New York compared with say where PO lives in Philippines, Angeles City.

Interesting how bias distorts the truth!

As indeed 'worry' would be considered a perception rather than the truth. Get a grip.

    Getting married.

Or just having a girlfriend in general.

Just noticed the Contributors as well :jumping1:

Give me the link and I can single-handedly make Angeles safer than NY. You are such a fool.

I think both having a girlfriend and being single are both overrated.

You always think you're going to be happier in the opposite situation.

Having a girlfriend is a much better experience than being married.

All major world cities have dangerous areas. There are bits of Edinburgh I wouldn't tend to hang out in or leave my car in overnight. Just use some common sense and everywhere's safe enough. OK - maybe not Liberia, New Guinea, Iraq, Syria or Afghanistan ...

Been there, done the lot up to the XXX one, but tend to go in there before seeing a film so the lemon sits nicely in the stomach.

And dont forget the Naughty Nata's after the meal !!

    Sushi.

It's alright. Would prefer a nice pan fired snapper though.

    New York is de-humanising
It is disgustingly dirt and smelly
no matter what part or what time of day I have never felt unsafe or even uncomfortable.
I hate New York as much as Vegas and that is saying something
Go to Philadelphia instead...100 times nicer in every respect

All opinions - all of which I disagree with

Being from Portsmouth (ish), I expect that you'd have found Southampton overrated (putting it nicely).

    Is this a whoosh moment?!

No, not a whoosh moment & now I'm with you! Not Southampton, no. Well maybe, I don't know - never been there. Although I've moved in that direction, I'm not close enough to feel any particular loyalty to Portsmouth (although I do like Gunwharf Quays).

I have to admit until last week I'd only been there when changing trains back to Pompey. But I did go shopping with an old uni mate last Tuesday who now lives in Eastleigh - she took me to West Quays (?) and I certainly recommend it if you like your shopping. Not quite Gunwharf though.

    Being single is overrated.

Having a girlfriend is great, getting married was greater than winning promotion, having a lovely wife is even better still.

(she was looking over my shoulder and had just caught me looking at NFL cheerleader pics!)

Why is she looking over your shoulder when you're having 'man' time?

This is exactly what I mean. I'm trading my missus in for a St. Bernard.

    Pulled pork and other meat.

    It isn't special.

It isn't worth a premium. It gets stuck in your teeth.

Caviar. Fois Gras. Champagne. Give me taramasalata, pate & wine any day. (I'm a cheap date)

A decent pate and wine could well be more expensive than foie gras and champagne.

True but, for me, they would still be better value.
