Colin had every right to 'cry' about it because it is against the rules!! Again Aidy seems to want to make us a controversial team...
Did you see there player last night throw the ball back to the ball boy because he hadn't wiped the ball....lol
We dried the balls for us but not for them... "You cant do that in the premier league" he said. Suggesting that the rules are different in the prem than for any other footbal game! Surely thats one of the advantages of being at home, its no different to the ball boy throwing it back slower/quicker to speed up/slow down the game.
So is handball That decision cant be changed after the game so they shouldnt do anything about the towel one!
Handball is abit different to trying to gain an advantage by drying the ball for the home side! The referee should have put a stop to it and said to the ball boy's they're not to wipe the ball for either side!
I must admit I've never seen a team charged for breaking any rule over this. We're not the first team to do it and we won't be the last. Sometimes referees put a stop to it but only under the general "the referee is in charge of events on and surrounding the pitch" idea. To be honest the most annoying thing is we still lost!
I didn't actually say it was WORSE than handball did i...i said they're two completley different instances! One happens on the pitch and the other happes off the pitch!
its hardly an offence, the ball gets thrown in and land on the wet floor in a matter of seconds. doesnt really gain an advantage.
*Sigh* not the sharpest tool in the box are you? ;D That's exactly the idea. The ball is dry so the thrower can get more grip and hurl it further. It's not supposed to make the ball easier to kick or anything...
It's the type of 'gamesmanship' that we should be above ..... I'll bet Adey wouldn't have had the bottle to do it against Sir Alex whereas Colin is fair game. It's similar to getting the ballboys to return the ball quicker to your own players or vice versa, we don't need it and we won't gain any friends by doing it - it's not clever or particularly original. Now playing Shi2 as a striker when Tamas was on the bench .... that was original !!!!!
Colin went crackers over this towel business. Personally, I found his swearing very ungentlemanly. If we were to get 'done' over this, he should have got a red card and ejected from the ground for his f'ing and blinding.
They have been banging on about this all afternoon on sky sports news, calling it 'Towelgate'. Wish they had something a bit more positive to report about us on. Still at least Aidy was his usual self when he commented about Warnock having his own towel to keep his premiership perm dry.
Don't know if any of you have read the Evening Standard today, but there is an article which states that there are worst things that have happened within the so-called boundaries of football, all in the name of 'gamesmanship'. Warnock was included in it as well. I agree I don't really want us to have that reputation either, but no-one complained when we 'managed' the game against Luton last season.
is it actually against the rules then? i know its not sporting or even very sensible but are there rules written down about it?
No specific rule. The FA could bring a charge against WFC for bringing the game into disrepute, which is pretty much an umbrella term for every offence under the sun. But they won't do that because they never have in the past. The authority therefore lies with the referee's discretion.
and the referee didn't seem at all bothered, just colin. that said i dont think it should be done again, its just plain discourteous. but they should clean the ball really really really slowly if we're winning.
I also seem to remember that Watford didn't have any ball boys/girls for the Palace home leg last season...obviously to slow the game down!
ball boys/ girls are always instructed what do do depending on the score, it happens at every ground.
hes jusst jealous we thought of it first, there is no rule against it. If we aren't alowed to gain an advantage by being at home, get some double glazing across the front of the rookery, we wouldn't want to put off the opposition with any form of noise!
i bet they will do the same in the return fixture just to piss us off. i just saw to day there is an estate just outside mine called 'the rookery' off to complain to my parents where we did'nt move there the houses there cost over €1,000,000, though. seriously
