I’ve enjoyed the tournament but does anyone else find the coverage of Wimbledon as an event utterly cringeworthy?

The begging from the BBC team for the players to validate how special and important Wimbledon is is nauseating.

And how great the crowd is .. even if it’s half empty in the stadium or it’s basically polite applause when they win a point .

Guess all sports people do that.

    Yes.
They don't need to keep doing this, most tennis players understand the importance and history of Wimbledon and the stupendous club that the All England is.
The questions/interview with Kyrgios on Saturday night was nauseating,Maria's eight year old daughter did a better job talking to her mother.
Great match between those two German ladies and so heartwarming to see the embrace at the end.
What a story it is for Maria and Niemeir has a strong future with her all court game.
I'm delighted to see Goffin back after two years of bad luck with injuries.
Norrie is playing at his maximum but Djokovic knows how to win.
Sinner hasn't had much publicity of late due to the rise of Alcaraz but he's improving year on year and is only 20.
    I think he's from Udine.

    Absolutely.
Had the enjoyment of listening to tennis commentary on the radio on the way home last night.
"down the line" "deep return" "backhand court" "he's got it" "tries the chip" "put away" "no, still in play" "volley""back to the baseline" "chipped return" "he's there at the net" "great passing shot". "lands out"..........."Fantastic rally". ""He" really had to work hard for that point".
WTF is going on ??? Who won the point ???
Would be more helpful to just say "Norrie serves" "some tennis happens"....pause.... Norrie won the point.

I thought Norrie was awful yesterday. Not sure whether it was lack of ability or he just tensed up but he really looked poor and seemed to only win because Goffin became even worse, maybe through fatigue. If that was him playing "at his maximum" I'm not sure how he has reached the heights he has in the ATP tour rankings !

I think the occasion got to him a bit in the early sets especially with Goffin playing some level tennis. But as soon as he got his head in the game momentum swung his way.

Yes - once he got the crowd onside and do think Goffin was fading fitness wise.

But still got to take the chance when it comes.

I didn't see the match but no player or team play well throughout a match and sometimes you have to "win ugly" as Brad Gilbert put it.
Norrie is good at making it a physical contest and against someone as slight and without many matches in the last two years that would be smart against Goffin.
It shows what you can achieve if you put your mind to it.
Norrie is a newer version of David Ferrer. You have to beat him,he won't beat himself.

A way to go before Ferrer comparisons. He's a top 10 seed with the crowd behind him who was taken to 5 sets by an unseeded player - outside the top 50 coming into the tournament.

Looks like Kyrigos is going through - letting his tennis do the talking .

Nadal in a battle v Fritz but taken the 2nd so will he run away with it now?

  13. Filbert

Why does Kyrigos get so much support and encouragement from the crowd?

He seems like genuinely odious individual. Not even a bit of pantomime from the crowd because he’s an Aussie. What’s the deal with that?

Going by Twitter ( I know ) he seemed to have a lot of support and people saying the BBC were very anti Kyrigos.

Whilst others complained they were very pro !!

I don't know any tennis player who admires him as a person. Tennis yes but he has taken his unpleasant behaviour to new levels this tournament.
The people that favour him are largely people going to Wimbledon as an 'event' I'd say, bit like tourists visiting football matches.
    Please may Rafa be fit.
Horrible prospect of Kyrgios winning the title.
Why is the mixed final today?
    Ridiculous.

I could name you countless top ten players who have been taken to five or lost to lower ranked players.
Moreover Goffin has been a top ten player but has had a horrendous couple of years through injury.
I don't like watching Norrie play but credit where it's due,he's making the most of his ability and that's to be applauded.

    Well done Rybakina.

Deserved to win - played well and Halep serve was poor.

Jabeur and Maria was a good match between close friends.

We now might have the irony of a Moscow born player winning Wimbledon the year that Russians were (wrongly IMO) banned from taking part!

    Penny for Fritz's thoughts now.
Must be very frustrated. Rafa should probably have stopped and allowed Fritz through.

Has someone pulled out this late before?

You don’t get to be the goat by pulling out during matches. IMO absolutely no way Rafa should have quit during the match. No way at all. He can’t be blamed. If there is fault it’s on Fritz for failing to take advantage. He went to pieces and couldn’t cope with dealing with an injured player. Rafa fought on and gave us two hours more of wonderful tennis to enjoy. Tomorrow’s lack of a semi is unfortunate but equally a played could wake up with covid and have to withdraw. These things happen. It’s a sporting tragedy for Rafa now he can’t go for the slam. He cannot be blamed at all.

It's an absolute tragedy we don't get to see Kyrgios try his shenanigans against the absolute mental strength of Nadal.

I'd have loved to dee him schooled by the most mentally fit sportsman I've ever seen.

I absolutely agree with Malts. It's not for Nadal to withdraw if he was injured. He played through and won. I guess it's been a very difficult decision since then to not proceed. Fritz should have taken advantage of a wounded foe, but Rafa was just too strong and dug in hard.

I thought it was a terrific performance by Nadal to come through with that injury and shows what it takes to be a great champion. I'll probably be shouted down and I doubt there's any precedent for it, but perhaps consideration could have been given to allowing Fritz to take his place in the semi-final in order to maintain the balance of the tournament and give ticket holders value for money.
