He is not going to cost £20m though is he? He has one year left on his contract so WBA need to sell if they can’t convince him to renew. This is their opening gambit but I reckon that, in the absence of a bidding war, he’d cost £10m, maybe even less if we send Foster in the opposite direction. Still don’t think we spend that on a GK this summer.
Have the Pozzos ever spent big on a goalkeeper? Now we have one who has forced his way into the Austrian squad and become their number one and have the perfect number two keeper in Foster. I don't think the club would even consider spending money on a keeper in the current market. Unless they want Johnstone that much and this is an opportunity they feel they can't waste.
But this may make sense. Unlikely they will lose money on this given he has a lot of years left and looks like he is on way up in ratings. I think they would spend £10m if felt it was a relatively safe investment
Although there are still a lot of question marks regarding Baachman. He has been less than convincing at times, particularly when defending crosses. Foster is 38 and starting to pick up injuries.
We're never going to have a faultless goalkeeper though, Bachmann deserves a chance. Plus Johnstone flapped horribly at a simple cross yesterday!
Yes but I would argue that dealing with crosses is an essential part of being a goalkeeper. Maybe I did not watch yesterday's match. However, from what I have seen of Sam Johnstone he don't usually struggle with balls in the box. Don't getbme wrong I like Dan Baachman but it's s major flaw in his game in my opinion.
West Brom fans I see on Twitter seem keen on Foster and (don't laugh) Deeney. Putting aside the fact that SURELY other clubs have worked out Deeney is done, it's potentially a small carrot that could work in our favour
There are a group of football fans and hopefully clubs that seem to think Deeney is still a functioning footballer. He's somehow gained an image of being difficult to play against. I noticed it last season when opposition fans were glad he wasn't playing because otherwise he'd 'dominate' their centre backs.
West Brom fans have been rejoicing in the news that Charlie Austin has been released. Imagine if Deeney walks in the door he's just walked out of. They won't know what they're missing until it's gone.
I mean Austin seems like a **** so I can understand why fans wouldn't warm to him, but yeah, Austin is orders of magnitude better than Deeney, and although he was on a fair whack, he was still on less than Deeney I believe!
A very good keeper but could we spend 20 million better on more pressing areas of the team unless the club really feel Bachmann won't cut it.
I for one think that we should get this guy in. Anyone who has a Paint Trophy named after them must have something a bit special. Foster's only got a naff Aussie lager in the naming stakes. And poor old Bachmann ended up with nothing, but at least he got the 'dinner-dinner dinner-dinner dinner-dinner' song.
It’s true that we ain’t seen nothin’ yet for Bachmann but she said he had it comin’ to him and he wanted it that way.
We dont need a keeper, we have two decent enough ones and an upcoming star, cant see us being interested at all.
https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/s...-looking-goalkeeper-amid-sam-johnstone-links/ Johnstone is probably better than what we have, but 20 million is steep and Bachmann really deserves the opportunity, so I’m somewhat happy.
Maybe, but unless someone is paying £20m + for Batman or Foster, we won't be paying that amount for Johnston. Not sure where Johnston ends up - can't see any clubs really in the market for a keeper atm. Maybe Wolves if Patricio goes, but can't see WB selling to them in a hurry.
True but in all honesty it could happen, not at that price though. DB could have a screamer at the Euros and be wanted. But I'm honestly ok with the keepers we have atm.
Bachmann could have a screamer. But in reality, he’s playing for Austria, if they get through the group they will have done well. Not sure 3 group games is much of a window.
Wouldn’t sit right with me if we replaced Bachmann. I know it’s probably too sentimental, but the bloke’s sat around for years awaiting his chance, finally gets a look-in and steps up. What’s more he looks better almost week-on-week. Why should he not get the chance to prove himself in a higher league?
Kepa Arrizabalaga to Chelsea - £70 million - Big flop Allison Becker to Liverpool - £60 million - Good signing Ederson to Man City - £34 million - Good signing Jordan Pickford to Everton - £25 million - Not very good Leno to Arsenal - £20 million - Not very good Unless you’ve got the finances to splash out on over £50 million for goalkeepers like Allison and Ederson, the return value of these goalkeepers costing anywhere between £20-30 million doesn’t seem to be very convincing.
You'd think they'd beat Macedonia, and Ukraine will be a tight game so Austria probably should get through that group at least in 3rd
It's a long shot. But Robin Olsen got a big move after a Championship before. Can't remember if it was the World cup or Euros.
