Football league bringing in a system akin to the above to help black footballers get into coaching/management. Its a long running debate and will this help? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/33015657
Hasslebank did well without it because he was willing to start at the bottom and turns out to be a good manager, John Barnes can't get a job in management because he is a proven crap manager not because is is black and it seems he is not willing to prove himself at the bottom and work his way up. Paul ince has did ok as a manager but was more concerned about the career of his son then the good of the club and has struggled to get another job because he is a ****, not because he is black. Chris Houghton has had three good jobs in football as he is a good coach/manager (and comes over as a top bloke)with a good track record in the championship not because he is black Trouble with this imho, is when a black manager does get a job people will say it is because he is black not because he is the correct person for the job.
Think it's a case of meddling by that buffoon Greg Dyke. There does seem an under representation of black managers but really have any done themselves any favours. As stated above hughton, Barnes and ince have all been given high profile jobs and failed.
I don't think just looking at how many black managers there is is useful to the debate. I'd like to see a list of potential black maangers who apply for interviews but always get turned away and their coaching qualifications next to white candidates who do get interviewed. I don't think we can see if there is a problem or not just by looking at people in jobs. However, if there are strong candidates missing out then this rule has merit.
Not necessary imho. The number of black coaches/managers will increase naturally as more and more finish playing and choose to go into that side of the game.
I don't know how it'll work in practice though as they've not yet defined BME. For example one article I read pointed out that Ryan Giggs' father is black so does he qualify by parentage? If not why not? It's going to cause more problems that it solves I suspect.
It gets a a lot of stick over here, and really doesn't seem to do much. Just the same few black coaches/managers on every short list.
The big problem is you can sack a crap manager anytime but you can't sack a crap black manager without the race card being pulled.
