Bought and loaned back to IFK Gothenburg on loan for the rest of this season. Actually excited about this kid, must be good if he is number one at such a young age.
Likely call up to Swedish National team according to Wobby. http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sp...ord-keeper-reportedly-set-for-sweden-call-up/ Sounds great and exactly the sort of investment we should be making (I don’t buy it into the theory we should prioritise players for now, we should prioritise both which we are). Difficult to see both Him and Bachmann accommodated in same squad.
Because it’d be Karnezis or similar as 1st choice so to have both would mean that one would not get much of a sniff of any action. I would have thought one would be loaned out.
You mean like Bachmann this season? Bachmann seems to be someone who is destined to spend a lot of their career as third choice
If this guy is playing regularly and called up to the Sweden squad, and with his potential as high as is quoted, I really expect him to be here and challenging next season. No work permit excuses on this one. We wanted an heir to the throne in goal, now we have one. Gomes and Karnezis are okay. Not awful. Not great. Average. This guy has a big expectation which we have bought into - start him next season.
Good point on Bachmann. I still don’t think Dahlberg will be No1 next season. He’s 19 and a GK so no need to rush imo. I also wonder if we should try for Foster next season with Brom going down. Harte aside goalkeepers is something home grown lads aren’t too bad at so seems a bonus to free up a squad slot for better value foreign outfield players.
If these comments are anything to go by, young Pontus expects to be challenging for the #1 shirt and playing in the Premier League next season. So Dahlberg, Gomes & Bachmann to be the three WFC keepers next season then? http://sportwitness.co.uk/watford-signing-says-joining-club-will-advantage-rivals/ Speaking to Expressen, Dahlberg was asked about becoming Sweden’s first choice goalkeeper: “Robin (Olsen) is good, tough to compete with. You must believe in yourself and try to do as well as possible. Becoming a prime goalkeeper in the Premier League is an advantage.”
Yeah, I posted that some time ago. It now looks like Dahlberg, Bachmann and Foster*. *Or any other decent experienced 'keeper. It'll be interesting if they'll look to fill a homegrown slot with whoever they get too.
Not for the squeamish - and I don’t know how to link a tweet from my phone. But if you want to see a genuinely disgusting injury, take a look at Dahlberg’s injury on Ben Fosters Twitter... @BenFoster
That's the worst injury I've seen since watching Dexter. You can actually see his skull through the hole!!
https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/17956870.pontus-dahlberg-hoping-leave-watford-loan-january/?ref=rss Not surprised he is looking for some football. Both him and Bachmann are probably miffed they haven't even had a chance in the cup games.
Keeping Gomes was an error certainly on the playing staff. Dahlberg like any young footballer needs to be playing regularly in order to develop and learn from their mistakes. I am sure he or Bachmann would have played in the League Cup games at the very least had Gomes retired and both I believe should be given a chance ahead of Foster.
Dahlberg starts for Sweden in their friendly against Moldova. Earns his second international cap. Congratulations to him. https://twitter.com/i/status/1215273633502896128
Well done son, you could soon be ready to make the step up to our 1st team next season, or as soon as Ben shows signs of losing his edge, but that might not be for some time me thinks
WD18 @WD18Fans· 21s BK Häcken have contacted Watford about signing Pontus Dahlberg on loan. [ @Expressen ] #watfordfc
What a **** job we've done with him, I'm sure 2 years after leaving Sweden, he didn't intend to be going back there
I was surprised to see he won a second cap. When I described him as a player that we'd ruined after joining as an international player, the Cult told me he had basically got a cap as a competition winner. I guess not.
His second cap was for Sweden reserves in all but name in fairness (not that I was in the 'Cult' you refer to). Only one player in the entire squad for those internationals had more than 5 caps (according to Wiki)... former Watford loanee Alex Kacaniklic (his first call-up in 6 years).
Named in the latest U21 squad for Sweden. https://www.svenskfotboll.se/nyheter/landslag/2020/8/u21-truppen-till-em-kvalet/
