He was originally banned before AFCON and was not supposed to be playing there, but as you say he was allowed to play under the appeal or something like that. However he was definitely not supposed to be playing at AFCON before the appeal was lodged.
This isn't correct, @wfc4ever is right, he literally played in their first group game before being withdrawn from their second game against Guineau '5 minutes before the kickoff', when Senegal learned of the ban. It was announced in the press the next day, on the 15th, before the CAS suspended his suspension on the 17th, allowing him to resume playing in the tournament.
https://mobile.twitter.com/GFFN/status/1531324208470446080 Marseille given the green light to buy and sell after the appeal.
During the appeal, not after it. Decision in October so the punishment is suspended pending the outcome.
Apparently we're still blighting this bloke's career: http://sportwitness.co.uk/club-wait...on-involving-watford-trying-sign-e10m-player/ The CAS decision is now imminent.
He'll be retiring before this is over. Must have been quite a decent player to have a team like Sevilla after him. No wonder he wasn't keen to come and play in the Championship.
The article says that the final decision will be made next month. He was only 21 and coming from Ligue 2 when he was supposed to be signing for us, but our getting relegated just before he was about to join was likely what put a spanner in the works, sure. He hasn't actually played a huge amount for Marseille and established himself as a regular there though. He'd only made 4 starts this season before moving to Sevilla in Jan.
Even if he does get a 4 month ban we're doing far less damage to his career than if he'd signed for us and been exposed to the Watford Medical Department.
Might be Udinese might be Marseille. Just saw us get flooded with it on twitter from Marseille fans. I love it personally.
No, it was a Zaragoza fan who was pissed off that we recalled Luis Suárez before their promotion play-offs
A little more money incoming by the sounds of it. Toby Gilles @tobygilles The Court of Arbitration for Sport's made its ruling on Pape Gueye, determining he DID breach his #WatfordFC contract when he signed for Marseille. Watford get just over £2.3m in compensation. Gueye is banned for 4 months. L'OM banned from signing anyone for 2 windows. Case over
Incoming horde of Marseille fans on Twitter. Another club added to the “We hate Watford” list. Ratford FC, the team for me
Reading through this thread when he signed for Marseille makes today's transfer 'ban' thread feel like Groundhog Day. And incredibly it's the exact same people, doing the exact same premature pant-wetting. Lessons have been learned, indeed.
From the CAS website: https://www.tas-cas.org/en/general-...irmed-with-the-exception-of-the-transfer-ban/ And the 1 page summary of the decision: https://www.tas-cas.org/fileadmin/user_upload/CAS_Media_Release_8600_8604_8633.pdf Dunno what Toby Gilles is reading but seems to me OM's transfer ban has been overturned. He's right about the rest though.
A transfer ban, then two transfers and 2.3 million pounds coming in. And it’s still only 2.40pm today
Is this £2.3mil separate from the £2.1mil they paid us when the case went to FIFA? If so, making £4.4mil off a player that never played for us isn’t bad.
No, it's the same amount FIFA ordered OM and Gueye to pay us. OM appealed it so presumably haven't coughed up yet. We also appealed and asked for it be increased. Neither appeal was successful.
