As long as you live to be 250 the first two should certainly be achievable. Unfortunately the failure to fix 3 and 4 means no humans will be alive by then.
On this day 15 years ago the ghost goal. https://oldwatford.com/2008/09/20/20th-september-2008-championship-watford-2-reading-2/
On this day 27 years ago Kenny Jackett made a comment in his programme notes for our game against Peterborough that 'I can’t remember a time when we’ve gone so long without drawing a game’. Of course fate was tempted to a record breaking degree. Not only did we draw this game but 18 more that season including 9 away draws in a row, a sequence never achieved before or since in either the Football or Premier League. https://oldwatford.com/1996/09/21/2...division-two-watford-0-peterborough-united-0/
On this day 42 years ago a Les Taylor goal gave us a 1-0 win away at the Racecourse Ground. https://oldwatford.com/1981/09/22/22nd-september-1981-division-two-wrexham-0-watford-1/
On this day 6 years ago a 90th minute Richarlison goal gave us a 2-1 away win at Swansea. https://oldwatford.com/2017/09/23/23rd-september-2017-premier-league-swansea-city-1-watford-2/
Whilst it slightly pains me to post about things the opposition did on this day 40 years ago Glenn Hoddle scored 'that' goal at the Vic. https://oldwatford.com/1983/09/24/24th-september-1983-division-one-watford-2-tottenham-hotspur-3/
On this day 41 years ago, the 8-0 annihilation of Sunderland. https://oldwatford.com/1982/09/25/25th-september-1982-division-one-watford-8-sunderland-0/
I don't want to know. I missed this to go to a wedding. 41 years later I can't remember whose wedding it was, but the memory of missing the match is still fresh.
I went to this. One of my favourite ever games. I remember walking back after the game and someone asking me "how did Watford get on?". I said we won 8-0 and the guy just didn't believe me. He had to ask a couple of other people just to confirm it.
Yes I had a romantic weekend away in Paris utterly ruined by reading the result in a newspaper on the Sunday morning.
On this day three years ago on his 19th birthday Joao Pedro scored a derby winner which was also his first Watford goal. https://oldwatford.com/2020/09/26/26th-september-2020-championship-watford-v-luton-town/
On this day 12 years ago our first home win under Sean Dyche as we beat Millwall 2-1. https://oldwatford.com/2011/09/27/27th-september-2011-championship-watford-2-millwall-1/
Glad the cover says it’s Joe Garner because I’d have had absolutely no idea who he is by looking at the picture alone.
On this day 40 years ago, Ian Richardson's finest hour. https://oldwatford.com/1983/09/28/2...isterslautern-0-watford-won-4-3-on-aggregate/
What a match that was. Still can't believe we won that with the team we put out. 1-3 down from the first leg but it was another amazing comeback win. I remember Sherwood making an amazing save, or rather their forward missing from point blank range by hitting the ball straight at Sherwood and it somehow deflected over the bar. Those moments all go into what was a crazy night.
Yes, unbelievable - looked for all the world that it was going to loop up and drop in. I'm still not sure if that 2nd Richardson goal was fantastic finishing or outrageous luck ! Didn't they have 4 german world cup winners in their side ? We had a bunch of kids in Gilligan, Richardson, Palmer, Jobson ... a crazy acheivement
They certainly had Brehme, who went on to score the winning penalty in the final in 1990, and Hans-Peter Briegel (who was a monster of a defender) who played in the ‘82 and ‘86 finals but was not a winner. Just looking up the team, they also had Thomas Allofs, who was an international forward although his brother Klaus was more well-known. Finally I’m delighted to note that Wolfgang Wolf was also in that team. He was of course the finest managerial appointment of all time when he was employed by Wolfsburg.
On this day 39 years ago Tony Coton made his Watford debut. https://oldwatford.com/1984/09/29/29th-september-1984-division-one-watford-4-everton-5/
Always liked the name Wolfgang, sounds super cool, when I first learned about the existence of Mozart when I was about 8 I didn't care about his music, but I did want to change my name to Wolfgang
On this day 34 years ago, Paul Wilkinson scored the only goal as we beat today's visitors to the Vic 1-0. https://oldwatford.com/1989/09/30/30th-september-1989-division-two-watford-1-middlesbrough-0/
So was I but I *really* remember the red-top press on the following morning (due to my paper round) a real education on how the (football) press 'works': lots of headlines along the lines of "HOPELESS HORNET LETS IN FIVE ON DEBUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" no mention of the four that went in at the other end...
On this day 14 years ago Terry Challis passed away. His Elton painting in 1977 accurately depicted the club's fortunes over the next 10 years whilst his cartoons in the Watford Observer were the first thing many of us would read in the paper each week. https://oldwatford.com/2009/10/01/terry-challis/
On this day a year ago, we won 4-0 at Stoke in Slaven Bilic's first game in charge. Interesting and appropriate choice of programme cover image. https://oldwatford.com/2022/10/02/2nd-october-2022-championship-stoke-city-0-watford-4/
On this day 59 years ago we won 2-1 at home to Southend in manager Bill McGarry's last game in charge. He'd asked to be released from his contract because his wife was 'very unhappy living in this area'. https://oldwatford.com/1964/10/03/3rd-october-1964-division-three-watford-2-southend-united-1/
