Laura Trott now vying with Charlotte for this year's 'top dog' award? That Madison was utterly dominant. I was waiting for something to go wrong (like a crash) but it never did.

 

Some of the Modern Pentathlon riders on their randomly assigned horses certainly know how to obliterate a show jumping course.

German rider's Olympics over after a complete disaster in the riding. Poor girl, utterly distraught. Just goes to show the luck of the horse draw but it does make compelling viewing.

 

Sounds like new coaching blood for Archibald and Trott really helped. Dutch dominating the sprints. Perhaps we need to concentrate on bringing through the next generation of sprinters. Jason Kenny and classes of 2012 and 2016 have been great servants but it's probably time to concentrate on the next batch coming through. We're not that far off from challenging the Dutch.

 

I think I was more irked by the blatant sycophancy from the pundits. Laura Muir is as good a prospect in the 1500 but there's been hardly a squeak about her.

 

It's still worth watching even when knowing the result. You'll still really enjoy it.

 

The German woman had a massive lead going into the show jumping and unfortunately was put on an equine equivalent of Gray.

Yes. Strikes me that the jeopardy of getting a 'mare' of a horse at random (that one got two riders eliminated) is a bit too much jeopardy when you've been training for five years in a multi-disciplinary event. Particularly when, up until that point, you were leading the field.

No wonder the German lost. The horse couldn't understand her neighing in a German accent.

 

GB 4 x 400 men's team out without so much as a whimper. It's a real shame that there is no depth to our one lap sprinters anymore. There has to be talent out there. Perhaps it's not viewed as being 'sexy'. What a sad state of affairs. This always used to be a medal banker. Perhaps they should consult with the 'guru' Michael Johnson about assembling a pool of 400 m talent.
