https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.sporx.com/amp/valerien-ismael-den-redmond-a-kanca-SXHBQ1018778SXQ Said he did take him to Besiktas last Summer. Out of contract at the Saints this Summer could be something in it. A certain Dele Alli was there too. Not saying he'd be interested again though.
Alli or Redmond Carps ? Most clubs will steer clear of Alli. I cannot see him getting to anywhere what he was at one point. You never know but the odds are pretty long. Redmond. Definitely would not say no. But wages ?
Reports say Redmond. Not overly bothered on either of them. Redmond would bring pace and experience though.
In light of the Saints getting relegated, I did think they might be interested in keeping him, but apparently he's at Besiktas on a perm?
Could be a positive sign that the manager will have more say, and I reckon given he's experienced but not massively over the hill he could do a job in the Championship, although you always have to take what the Turkish media say with a pinch of salt!
He always seemed to terrify our defenders. He’s 29 now, but on a short term contract this could be very good for us. Incoming 5 year deal from Gino.
On a free yes. Could be very useful with his experience. Not the greatest goalscoring record but still has plenty of pace to cause problems.
Exactly the type of player who’s not quite good enough to regularly produce in the Prem but would be a very shrewd signing at this level.
He was always pretty decent at PL level to be fair. I have a few images in my head of Pep congratulating him and schmoozing with him on occasion in my head because he had a lot of respect for him. I think he would be superb at this level and he has played a role both at Besiktas and Southampton pressing aggresively. Just turned 29 so still got some left in the tank youd imagine.
Our finances are a mess, no chance are we in for Redmond or even should be in for him. 29 year old mercenaries are the very reason we’re in this mess. We need players that want to be here. I can’t imagine Redmond licking his lips at the prospect of playing his final career days at Watford. His career is coming to end. He will be looking for one last pay day, he will want at least a 3 year contract, but probably 4. His salary at Saints was reportedly £60k a week. Besiktas salary is £25k-£40k a week according to reports. With our financial situation can we really be affording to make Redmond one of, if not our highest, earner after the clear out? I would much rather us build something than try to rush promotion by signing players like Redmond.
He may be too expensive anyway but 29 isn’t really in their last days for most . Some say that sort of age is a footballers prime period of their career. Obviously all relative on their fitness , ability etc . I’m will admit we have had players of that age who have struggled or they pick up injuries .
Was never a great fan. Not really a goal scorer and not really a creator. Does he still have the same electric pace ? Fear he maybe on the slide ? At close to 30 will he still have the energy for the Ismael press and workrate? No fee but presume high salary and min 3 year deal ?
Worse than Sarr in the PL over their last two seasons but perhaps could be ok at Champ level if fit and the drive still there? Redmond 3563 minutes over last 2 PL seasons 3 goals 8 assists Sarr 3892 minutes over last 2 PL seasons 10 goals 6 assists
Very harsh to frame Redmond as a mercenary. He gave good service to both Norwich and Southampton for a number of years.
The sort of player some will still turn their nose up at, but in reality is probably slightly out of reach of a mid-table championship team like us.
What’s the reverse logic here? Buy young players who are automatically hungry? You can be a young “mercenary” too, Isaac Success? Pozzo’s don’t do much character scouting which is a different conversation altogether but simply labelling someone a mercenary without a shred of proof is a bit unfair.
We've bought enough young and promising players, but without older heads to guide them, it's unlikely to end well. I couldn't tell you what Redmond's personality is like, but we do need some players of that age group, Ben Watson and Guedioura were absolutely crucial to our promotion hopes in 2015
Agreed it's not overly impressive but I believe is still an upgrade on Sarr. If anything I think he's not selfish enough Infront of goal. Decent stats in Turkey. We could do alot worse. As @WillisWasTheWorst said he's been a good servant at the Saints and Norwich and we definitely need some experience up top.
Those stats don't account for the sheer amount of time that Sarr goes missing for, even in the Championship
Didn't realise he was only 29 thought he may have been a tad older, not the worst age TBF, would probably do alright at championship level.
Maybe unfair on Redmond, however, I think the point is that we don’t need to be signing 29 year olds that are likely looking to seal a final pay day when we should be looking at signing players with a point to prove on half the money! Redmond has nothing to prove at this level. I wouldn’t sign him either. Would rather give a chance to someone in our academy or give someone like Hungbo a chance.
It's a yes from me. Exactly the sort of player we should be looking to sign if we're serious about fighting off relegation.
