Leslie Phillips Rip

Has died at the age of 98. Played the part of the suave socialite to perfection and more recently to be heard taking over the role of ‘the Book’ in the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy on radio.

A twinkle in his eye for sure. RIP.

 

He was great. Loved so many of his films. Catch phrase “ding dong”. A real gentleman

My grandad's name was also Leslie and Leslie Phillips passing got me thinking about the name itself... Turns out 4 babies in the UK were named Leslie last year, which is 4 more than I expected.

Ignore the weird units on the left (shows properly on a PC but not on phone), but there is a massive "Les" spike in 2012. Not sure what caused the surge.

 

It appears that Leslie is being used both here and in the US as a female name instead of (or as well as) Lesley.

 

I'm amazed he was still alive.

 

My first thought.

 

He led a charmed life!
