How's everyone getting on? Was unsuccessful with my last attempt, lost out to someone on the final interview with the Director - sadly just didn't have the experience they required.

I'm going to a competency based interview on Thursday. I've been told I may call up beforehand for some practice on the telephone, which is very kind of them. I'm really hoping I'm successful as it's a fairly well paying investigative job within the Hillsborough Independent Panel. What's more, if I get the job it means I will spend most of my waking life in Warrington. It truly doesn't get much better than that.

Still slumming it at the supermarket but still doing some pretty cool freelance work. Do videos for a publication which divides opinion on here and was approached in November to work for BattleRap.com which although the work isn't very frequent at all is pretty great and has some great perks.

Applied for a very similar role to my two previous interviews last week but at a smaller company. Applications close on Tuesday so hopefully hear back positive news soon!

Crikey. What are they planning to investigate now? Is the massive 500-witness inquest not enough?

If the job 352 is going for is well paying, then some people are making money. As long as people are making money it won't go away.

I have a final stage interview next Thursday for Lidl's management grad scheme. The interview consists of a 5 minute SWOT Analysis presentation, followed by a 45 minute interview with a Director.

What are your thoughts on the customer shopping experience in a Lidl store in your area?

    • What are our strengths?
    • What are our weaknesses?
    • What are our opportunities?
    • What external threats could impact us internally?

    Some tips for your preparation:
    • Please feel free to deliver your presentation however you wish and use whatever materials you wish to support you. There will be a flip chart available throughout the assessment should you wish to use this to support your presentation.
    • Please note that there will be no access to a laptop or power socket.

You will be invited to deliver your presentation to two assessors on the day, and then respond to a few questions.

How would you suggest delivering the presentation? I don't really want to be messing around with a flipchart during the presentation! Would it be best to print the SWOT analysis out and hand one to each of the interviewers and talk through each section?

In my opinion if they're telling you there's a flipchart available it's a bit of a hint that they're expecting you to use it.

Think it's about disclosure of documents post inquest. Obviously will know more in a few days.

    Nice.

Like a blur/focus effect don't you? :]] Also too much wobbly camera. I know it can add an effect in certain situations buy I think you need one of those mini steadycam things.

Minor criticisms though, very professional looking.

Focus pull is my signature hahaha! I don't do it so much anymore. Since this video I have invested in a glidecam, haven't got much use out of it yet but use it in this https://www.facebook.com/OMGMondays/videos/506904192820611/?theater

Don't know what you're looking to do, but my girlfriend's brother did something similar at uni. He literally just called every company he could find and asked them if they had any jobs/internships and sent them his final project. He got a job at a company as a runner and he's now an AP for the new Clarkson show on amazon and he's only 24. Think it's massively dependant on knowing the right people, but once you're in, you're in. Might be worth trying just spamming people like he did!

Personally for me TV & Film isn't particularly want I want to go into. Ideally I want to work for myself but that's a long way away. Applications close for my most recent application today so hopefully hear back in the next couple days

I'm no Clarkson fan, but he can't speak highly enough of him. Says he is pretty much the brains behind the entire show and does a lot more than you'd think.

Think you're on the right track - as well as well researched points they'll be looking for you to have organised thoughts and show logic, so your idea of having a hand out presentation of each of the 4 sections with bullet points is a good one. Then work through them methodically and also add a quick introduction and conclusion of your main findings.

No idea if Lidl has anything unique in this regard but see if they lay their store out differently to other stores, as I know there are marketing bods who spend hours on stuff like this. If they do that would allow you to do a quick store diagram on the flip chart as you describe it under strengths.

I mentioned in another thread that I keep finding jobs i'd love but i've not graduated yet and I wanted some advice...

I've found one that closes on March 11, which means interviews won't be until a few weeks after that and they'd expect a notice period anyway, right? I should be finished in May, so it wouldn't be unreasonable to apply and explain that I wouldn't be able to start until May would it?

I pretty much fit their specification and even have the experience in the desirable but non essential column, except they say 2 years experience is essential... I have my placement year and a summers internship so sort of a year and a bit. Will they even consider me if I don't have the full two years, even though I have experience in everything they want?

My advice is go for it and do it properly. Be confident, give it a go. What's there to lose?

At the end of the day if you don't meet the minimum criteria, you're unlikely to get the job, but there will be no harm in applying for it, if you get an interview at least you get (more) interview experience.

Months on I'm still stuck at the Supermarketing while freelancing as much as time allows me. Really want to get out of the Supermarket and weekend work as it stops lots of possible freelance work from happening.

Anyone got any ideas of where I could get some part time work that doesn't involve working weekends? (Looking for 20-30 hours a week)

Like UEA said, get yourself down the agencies (or start sending them your CV) - I was literally out of work for 90 minutes back in October 2014 before I got some agency work to keep me going.

Have you made the most of social media? Using Facebook and Twitter to try and get the word out there?

Have you checked Gumtree? There's always stuff on there.

Still unemployed/'freelancing' after leaving a job i wasn't into at all that didn't give me many hours back in February. Just missed out on a teacher training programme that would have set me up for the next two years, possibly for life.

Hard not to get down about these things sometimes. Money's getting much tighter now and I'm going to bite the bullet and go for literally any job starting this week, rather than only going for jobs that I feel will be longer-term, fulfilling, etc etc. There's a McColl's hiring part-time staff over the road, and I worked at a McColl's whilst studying last year so hopefully that'll keep me away from bankruptcy for a little while.

If anyone has any experience of teacher training that doesn't involve having to take out a massive loan etc I'd love to hear from you in my PM inbox.

Hopefully starting to volunteer at a local youth centre soon, and there's a chance I'll be invited back for an interview for the perennially late London Midland next week. Pray to God, cross your fingers, toss a coin into a pond, do whatever it takes to get me a job again soon. Thanks all.

If you fail to get what you want this week, go to McColls.

The reason I say that is because after university, I worked at a Budgens just for cash while I studied for my Diploma in Financial Advice.

When I got to going for interviews, they praised me for my 'want for work' and offered me the position above better qualified people!

Totally. I've got no issue with McColl's work, it's just that I don't want to be there long and don't want it to affect my job seeking activities. I worked at the one in Cassiobury for about 9 months last year whilst studying for an MA so hopefully they'll take me on. Only 12 odd hours on min wage will help, but it won't solve much. Hoping the volunteering at the youth centre will start soon, as at least then I'll be doing something I can really get my head into as well.

Cheers for the advice. I'll get there, but it's this period that's the killer.
