I just think that it's interesting that the biggest sides in the country, despite no doubt knowing of him, don't think he's worth the risk
Not sure many Watford fans would think he is a top 6 player yet, and it would be a mix of opinions if he ever will be. But HG young striker wanted by several Prem teams still means he’s worth some fairly good money.
Because £30m is a lot for a player who wouldn’t play much for them this season? Not sure it’s the ‘risk factor’. Joao Pedro needs as much football as he can get this season to progress. Top clubs can afford to watch him go elsewhere and then jump in in 2-3 years and buy him for a bigger fee.
Newcastle have enough cash not to need him to make a difference for this season and pay off as a signing immediately.
He was always Ron. Never heard anyone call him Ronnie. Some called him Stuart Storey and vice versa but never Ronnie?!
He isn't that good atm. Still has to prove he can compete at PL level week in week out in them sides first. One step at a time.
Joao will be seen in Black and White this season. https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/20756133.watford-mark-100-years-vicarage-road-new-kit/
It's rare for top 6 sides to come in for young players in the Championship. They usually see if they cut it at a mid-table Prem team first. You are reading far too much into it.
Don't see it personally. He's about to become HG eligible, and wouldn't cost too much. Chelsea spent £20m on the Villa lad and he won't see the first team this season. Arsenal spent £30m on Saliba and pushed him straight out the door. I might be in the minority but I just don't see Pedro becoming a top player
Fair enough. I think he's got a higher ceiling than Richarlison tbh and he regularly plays for Brazil.
Thing is with Richarlison is that he has pace and power. I'd also say he has far more of a natural goalscoring instinct. Pedro has looked good in flashes for us, but he's very fortunate in some ways to be at a club that's happy to have a player starting that isn't really a striker, but also isn't really a midfielder. I'd obviously love to keep him, but I don't see him becoming a £60m+ player in the future like some do
From Luke Edwards: #nufc interest in Joao Pedro is over for this transfer window. As reported earlier this week, Magpies had not agreed a fee or deal with Watford. Talks stalled on Monday. Have since signed Isak which is likely to mean lit is only loans being looked at until deadline day.
Richarlison has better physical attributes, but I think Pedro is and will prove to be a better technical player.
Club will be quietly shopping Pedro and Sarr around for the next week - Palace, Everton, Leeds etc. Not out of the woods yet
Don’t think so, honestly. Mike Walters (who is v well connected) and other sources on here/Twitter have said Sarr is happy to stay in negotiations for a new contract. Don’t think that would be leaked if he was still being shopped around. With Pedro, I think we have a valuation that few clubs would be willing or able to meet. Newcastle sit in the sweet spot of being able to offer £30m+ for a player who won’t star for them yet but can still be given plenty of game time. He wouldn’t play at all at a big 6 side and few other sides would spend that on a young relatively raw player like our JP. Maybe Brighton would but can’t think of many.
Didn’t think it said he was happy to stay and in negotiations for a new contract. Think it said he was happy to stay and the club were planning to offer him a new contract. No suggestion he was going to be interested in signing one.
Sounds like you're hoping for this? Good news about Newcastle, and our position is pretty strong. Can't see many clubs risking around £30m on him this late in the window. Fingers crossed.
Why would the club prepare to offer him a new contract and leak to the media that they will be doing so if there’s no interest in him doing so? You don’t think they’d have sounded out Sarr’s interest and spoken to his reps?
Glad he's possibly staying but I still think £30m would've been good business for a player with a lot of potential but hardly proven.
Bizarrely there are people who would like to players gone at the last minute so they can have a pop at the club and quote that lessons learned bolox whenever something happens they don’t like
No it doesn’t, hence why I said “not out of the woods yet” Id love to breathe a sigh of relief right now but a lot can change between now and the end of the window If they’re both still here when the window closes I’ll be delighted, regardless of whether the club did or didn’t plan for it
Don’t know either way Re. Sarr but it’s not exactly beyond belief given that they did a very similar thing with Luther recently I guess we’ll know soon enough anyway
Why do I feel there is going to be another twist ?! https://mobile.twitter.com/VoicesOfTheVic/status/1562899899490115584
