    Some ideas:
    Whale watching
    Visit a glacier or two
    Northern lights
    Volcanic activity/geysers
Hot springs (is it called the Blue Lagoon?)
    Spending 12 quid for a **** beer.

Have fun! It's an otherworldly place and quite unique.

I've done whale watching from Italy and Peru, neither excursion was very good.

Whale watching from Husavik is world renowned. I've always found it really frustrating, particularly trying to take photos of an object that could appear anywhere on the sea for about 3 seconds before disappearing again. It's never like the videos that get shared on twitter. We've been twice from Husavik but not had great views. Likewise from Kandy in Sri Lanka.
The best view I got of whales was standing on Vancouver Island. Literally having just learned that we'd c0cked up and didn't have the time to go on the 4 hr whale watching trip as we'd miss our ferry, a pod of orcas swam past our cottage as we stood there contemplating what the hell we were going to do....

I've done whale watching in New Zealand, Australia and Iceland. All three were ace.

She's actually very nice and severely disabled due to a parkinsonian condition.
Did you really like the blue lagoon ? For all the amazing natural wonders of Iceland, going to that place was a real disappointment, like a busy open air swimming pool. Wonder what it was like when it was first discovered.

Going to the Isle of Arran next month with my Dad, camping in a trailer tent for two weeks, weather isnt looking promising but will be a nice getaway as that part of the world is beautiful.

Best place I've ever been for whale watching is off the coast of a little island called Contadora (Pearl Islands near Panama). Had a whole day out at sea and must have seen whales a dozen times or more along with dolphins as well. Beautiful place

Remember sitting on the cliffs overlooking the ocean just outside Gansbaai SA. Southern Right Whales come into the bay there to mate. It was a simply amazing experience. Honestly say there were too many to count. Pods of Dolphins everywhere almost showing a force of protection for them.
Bolder beach where Penguins join you on the beach.
Face to face diving with seals who joined us on our dive.
Best of all was working on a White shark research vessel for a month. The ultimate predator of the seas.

Sounds good. The issue I have is not not seeing whales, it's just that I see so little and it's frustrating knowing that all the action is going on beneath the surface. I accept that others find it great, including Mrs TUT. The dolphins are much more interesting as at least you get good longer views. Had great views of bottlenose dolphins off the Spanish coast near Tarifa but having watched them at the front of the boat for 10 mins, I turned green and had to sit with my head between my knees for the entire journey back :(

Tail flukes, breaches? all those sort of things are cool. Admittedly, just seeing the odd back break the surface for a quick breath is not something you can do for hours.

Had a great week whale watching in the Azores (Pico) with a company run by marine biologists. A couple of hours each morning in a small boat, then the rest of the day to do other things. We were lucky and saw four big species - Fin, humpback, sperm and blue, plus dolphins. They said the blue whale was only a small juvenile, but it seemed pretty massive to me. I gave up trying to take still photos. Videos worked much better - the sound of a big whale exahaling a few metres away will stay with me for ever.

Agreed. The amount of times he stood there and didn’t intervene when a pack of lions went after a meerkat or he watched and commentated as a baby polar bear floated away on a piece of ice truly sums up the man.

Runs in the family though - his brother getting away with feeding goats to dinosaurs set the tone.

My biggest complaint is the fact that he's about 108 but still insists in clinging onto his absolute golden gig of being flown around the world on an endless safari.
2 generations have missed out on the chance to be the 'BBC Animal Dosser In Chief.'

Now it's up to Gen Z to bump him off and get a job staying in a luxury tent with a team of natives so that you can do a 2 minute voice-over to a clip that some hard working camera people have taken 8 months to capture.
