Where are people here thinking of holidaying this year?

Off to Torremelinos for a long weekend with the better half at the end of the month and then off to Tenerife at the beginning of August for ten days. Will probably try and squeeze Dublin in to see family at some point this year too.

Off to Italy in just under five weeks time - 3 nights in Florence then getting the train down to Rome.

Lots of history to explore and we've booked all the touristy stuff, really looking forward to it.

Be a bit careful at Florence station. Mrs K had her passport nicked there, which rather spoiled the last day of our honeymoon.

Sounds a lovely time @wfcwarehouse Italy is such a beautiful country. Good advice from Keighley too. Like most popular tourist destinations, Italy has its fair share of pickpockets and scammers.

I don’t blame you. You can add the corruption, the pollution, the litter everywhere, the overcrowding, the horrible new ugly buildings sprouting up everywhere, the traffic, the drinking culture, the total lack of Maltese people working these days in the tourism industry and many other negatives.

    Ghastly place.

Your three destinations sound really interesting and different.

It's a week in Bude for our family this summer. Nothing else really on the horizon.

Bude is lovely. My parents met and married there. One of my favourite places in England! I’m sure you will have a great time!

My lounge, the back garden, and the upstairs bedroom are sounding pretty good to me.

Less chance of running into other people that way.

Went to Rome for The Ryder Cup last year. Fabulous City with sites that are hard to believe. Stayed in Trastevere where there are lots of restaurants down back streets that are fantastic and much better that the bigger commercial ones

Off to Gloucestershire at the end of May for a few days without the kids. Booked an airbnb in the middle of nowhere but close to a little village pub. Going to watch the cheese rolling while there. Then Maldives for two weeks in the summer with kids. Very extravagant but but it's only money!
Possible UK break in October half term as well

Presume back in the day when you pretty much only needed a library card or blockbuster video card to get to and from Europe ?

Currently in Stratford-upon-Avon for 3 days, taking in a play. Then 3 days in July in Bannau Brycheiniog visiting family. A week at start of August in the Algarve with the grandsons (has to be out of term time obviously) and then a week at the start of Sept in Santorini.
Not sure quite how all that got decided!

Just a week self-catering near Alicante this year. A far cry from the holiday we enjoyed last year, we drove to Croatia, spent a week there and drove back again, we stopped at some nice places on the way and way back.

Ah, sorry to hear this Keighley. Hope Mrs K wasn't too shaken up! I'm a bit of worrier sometimes so I've done a lot of research and have seen a few mentions of pickpocketing in both Florence and Rome, so we'll be careful. Thank you.

Cheers Malts - nice to see you back online by the way. The "Friendship Bracelet scam" seems particularly prevalent from what I can gather.

I cannot WAIT for the colloseum. I feel like the older I'm getting, the more appreciation I'm starting to get for history and there's tons of it that we're going to get to see.

We're staying pretty close to Roma Termini, and have only booked one place (a recommendation from a friend who's visited previously) for dinner, so will definitely try to find some smaller places off the beaten track. Any recommendations that you can remember?

The Colosseum is incredible. There are guided tours (about 3 hours long) that I would recommend as there is so much to see. I'll come back to you with restaurant's but they're all in Trastevere and you can pretty much just walk in to them. All owned by locals cooking local cuisine

We’ve booked a tour that’s either 3 or 3.5 hours, so hoping we’ll get a good look around. Thank you very much re: restaurants.

    Understandable.
