Striker Marlon King will be at Hull today for a medical ahead of his £3m move from Wigan. (Daily Express)

looks like we wont be booing, clapping or being a neutral towards him next season.

Thing is the Daily Express just print rubbish everyday, hence why they are always being sued, and loosing. The McCann case a prime example.

The Daily Express is an upmarket Daily Star, and the people that read it are only one step up the evolutional tree.

How do you step the chase any more from already agreeing a fee with the club and currently being in discussions with the player about his contract?!

Where do you have that from. Everywhere I see it's still only rumoured they have bid.

Also the price varies from 1.5 to 4.5...

And the second half of the season when he's failed to make an impact and he's farmed out to Burnley or similar.

    King set for City medical

By Paul Farrington Monday, 21st July 2008

Marlon King is today expected to undergo a medical after agreeing terms on his £3 million pound move to Hull City, just seven months after joining the Latics from Watford.

Jamaican international, King, has struggled to settle at the JJB and managed just one goal for the club, that coming against Blackburn Rovers.

Now the former Hornets striker is likely to join former Latics target Dean Windass in the Tigers armoury ahead of the new Premiership season.

King cost the Latics an initial £2 million from Watford, with a further £2 million due on appearances and success. Thus a deal of £3 million represents a superb profit on the player.

Meanwhile, Ryan Taylor is being linked with a move to Bruce's former side Birmingham City. The 22 year old full back is said to be the subject of a £750,000 enquiry from the Blues.

Does this mean we forgo the other £2 million ?

We could buy a damn sight better than Hendo for £2.5m.

If Shittu had been sold and hadn't been a greedy canut, then we wouldn't be selling Hendo, simple as.

Aidy needs to raise money, and if we aren't going to get £2m+ for Shittu then we have to get the money from somewhere to be able to strengthen the squad as a whole.

I wouldn't pay over £1m for Hendo personally, and I thought his market value was nearer £1.5m.

We could spend £1.5m on a better striker, and then still have £1m to spend getting others in.

I blame Shittu, who IMO is much less useful to the squad than Hendo anyway. Huge CBs are not difficult to find, huge CFs are.

Can someone explain this to me?

So does that mean we got £4m for him?

Do we have a sell on for the £3m?

If it is is just shows how stupid they are. If Wigwam have really made a profit of 1m for a player who was terrible for them, then words really do fail as to how inept out board are.

Agree with much of what you say But!

Have you any ideas about affordable better strikers for £1.5m at this level who would be prepared to join us?

There are 3 or more of our competitors that obviously can`t.

There are few Championship (or Prem) pedigree strikers around at lower prices, just plenty of lower league `wanabees` or overpriced `has beens`.

This is the key here. Since this news broke just before the weekend I have read all the posts made here and elsewhere. I don't have a problem with Henderson leaving, even to a rival, provided we can acquire a replacement at least as good. This is the point, really. Is such a player available and would be be prepared to join Watford?

Actually, I'd rather keep Shittu than Hendo. Shittu isn't just a huge CB, he's a huge CB who scored 7 goals for us last season. Apart from the fact that he can't pass he is a very good centre-back and still our best. Although if we don't sell him now, does that just mean we'll lose him for nothing next summer? Because that would be even worse.

However, I wouldn't be too fussed if we sell him and then bring in Gorkss for 1/10th of the price and have some cash left over for other areas.

As far as big centre-forwards go, off the top of my head I can think of Alan Lee, Rasiak, Steve Howard, Beattie, Agyemang and Adebola and I'm sure there are loads more out there as well.

As far as more affordable, better strikers go then Clinton Morrison still hasn't signed for anyone yet, although he's not the same type of 'lump' striker as Hendo. However, in theory with the money we'd get from Hendo we could sign both Morrison, to start alongside Priskin, and also Steve Howard to be able to bring on in the last few minutes to either time waste and hold up the ball, or just to lump balls into the box for.

I would have imagined that a large chunk of the further £2million would have been dependent on Wigan staying up, in which case we would have received it!

Furthermore, according to wikipedia, Wigan's chairman announced that the deal was actually for an initial £3million, rising to £4million based on appearances and success:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marlon_King

    This!

King was a massive flop at Wigan by all accounts, the only goal he scored in his 8 starts and 7 sub appearances was a penalty. I actually felt quite embarrassed for him the couple of times I saw him play as he looked such a shadow of his former self (whereas before his injury he did actually look Premiership standard).

    I'm worried.

There's a reason why people are bidding for Hendo. He's the best that's available to a club of our level, which means we won't be replacing him with any better.

Expect more lower leaguers for the future and our current second string to be asked to step up to the plate. I reckon we'll struggle through till Xmas where at mid table we might be able to splash the cash for a promotion push.

Just found this on a Watford newsfeed posted 15 mins ago

Darius Henderson is in Sheffield tonight (Monday night) holding talks with Kevin Blackwell...
The Doncaster born striker is believed to have signed for the Blades for £2.25m states the Watford Observer. Henderson would be a replacement for Rob Hulse who made way to Derby County on Monday.

    Article continues below

The deal should go through tomorrow at the very least if everything goes to plan. Henderson bagged 13 goals for the Hornets in the last campaign and is set to put pen to paper at Bramall Lane.

Rumours are spreading around that James Beattie could be out for two to three months but will Henderson easily slide into the starting XI and is £2.25m worth it despite having Billy Sharp and Jon Stead on the striking books.

Meanwhile Luton Shelton is on the brink of signing for Valerenga of Norway.

There is well meaning sentiment to this post but I feel some other posters are not in the Watford present yet......

The clear signs are we are skint (or have a board without the will or cash to spend anymore).

WFC will not be buying anybody for £1.5 million as suggested by some on here or buying any "name" player who expects wages to match.

Harley is an ageing player who came back to London on a free.

Aidy was told to raise £6 million in player sales, so he has a bit more selling to do.

We are back in the age of signing "prospects" like Paul Mayo unless Aidy can find mugs to offload most of the rest of the current squad to.

We will be looking at buying in January to avoid relegation, not promotion, at this rate. Doesn't look good from where I'm sitting.

    According to where?!

Paul Mayo was a Lewington signing, what are you bringing him up for? What's to say we won't be signing "prospects" like King, Carlisle, Spring etc.

Also, even if we aren't in the best financial situation, we could also maybe pick up some decent loans.

  31. Whippendell Woods

    Whippendell Woods Squad Player

We could get loans in I grant you (if we can afford the agents/club loan fees- given Stoke paid £500K for a loan in Jan, I'd say we can't)

Mayo was brought up as he was from the time we were lucky to buy a player at all- and that was because of the Russos.

Some posters are suggesting WFC should bag this striker and that striker for x million, we are not in that league anymore, we seem to be back to frees and loans because of mismanagement.

The board called that mismanagement " a punt"..... hmm.

Its not that Hendo isn't any good, but he won't ever do better for us than he has already.

Frankly given his skill level, his propensity towards calamity and his strike rate without Marlon, all in all a good fee, over 1.5m and the loss of his colossal wedge of the wage bill suits us very well right now.

He'll probably have good patches for Sheff Utd, but we could use the money to do better and give Priskin and Hoskins the chance to shine.

Blades fans may soon be able to turn their attentions to the age old conundrum concerning Hendo i.e. what activity is it that might cause seemingly permanent wrist strain in a young man....

I know Morrison is training with Coventry, but we could always go in for him. Good striker at this level and won't come with a fee since he is without a club. Aidy raises a few million but still keeps a reasonable front line.

Hendo doesn`t want to go - slavery again

Won`t come with a fee but with loads of attitude- nice disruptive influence to replace King!

    c/p wobby

Henderson is understood to want to stay at Vicarage Road while Boothroyd does not want to sell a player who scored 13 times last season.

However, Henderson has three years to run on a lucrative contract and Watford desperately need to cut costs and recoup money to balance the books.

Watford are still trying to resurrect Dan Shittu's move to Rangers while other sales are likely.
