Sir Kid Starver, Reg Prentice, Margaret Hodge, Angela Smith, Chuka Umunna - your boy took a hell of a beating. Even an independent local second hand car dealer got 3 times the vote of the Tories or Labour (sic). I'm not a huge fan of Galloway, although he's sound on Cuba. He does seem like a blowhard opportunist at times - although nobody could deny he's an eloquent speaker. Jacob Reece bloody Mogg quoted approvingly in Galloway's acceptance speech. Reform Party's Mike Lice claims firebombs, threats, attacks and intimidation. But nobody else amongst the 11 candidates mentions it. I think he's lying. When Galloway is asked about it, he produces a text message from Sr. Lice inviting him to be a Reform Party candidate. Hmmmm... A respectable 200 and something for the Monster Raving Loonies, who must have seemed a tempting option in this election. I'm not sure I'd want Mr single issue big mouth representing my area. I might well be tempted by the loonies. Lord Starver says he woulda, shoulda, coulda won if he hadn't had a shyte candidate. Hmmmm... Doubt it somehow. The Tories keep quiet. They were expecting a hammering and they did get some votes. Didn't come last. So it's a victory really if you sort of scrunch up your eyes and squint.
Galloway is one of those annoying individuals who talks a lot of sense about certain things you care about but is also a complete and utter c*nt. His take on wholesale working class slaughterer Putin the other week was to applaud how Tucker Carlson had shown what a ‘nice guy’ he is. But of course Putin paid his bills via Russia Today, until GB News came along. Hopefully he’ll be out at the GE. Shame really that the local independent, a car mechanic who campaigned on doing things for the whole Rochdale Community didn’t win. But he was comfortably second, with more votes than the Tories or Reform.
Child grooming, food banks, lack of housing nah let’s win over the electorate with a dispute 2500 miles away this country!!!
The guy won less than 40% of a vote with less than 40% turnout, where he was the only left wing candidate affiliated to a party. Everyone knows Labour would have romped it if they didn’t deselect their own candidate.
I remember reading his wife's twitter DMs to Aaron "walkin' talkin' pile o'shyte" Banks pleading with him to give Galloway money as if he was declared bankrupt his political career would be over...
https://twitter.com/J_Bloodworth/status/1763487212656545917 The piece by Christopher Hitchens that's in the image above is a very good account of how Galloway operates.
Galloway is what a politician should be. Eloquent, standing up for what he believes in and promoting that rather than just trying not to drop a bollock or going for the populist vote to get in. He is however in my opinion a complete and utter lunatic. This is the sort of thing we have to face when the public can no longer put up with the complacency and negligence of the main parties. Hopefully it'll just be for a couple of months and a big wakeup.
Hang on a mo'? Haven't we got your oft quoted wish: a non-political party politician with the electorate voting for a personality rather than a manifesto being elected to parliament?
shouldn’t it be one voice and one mission statement then saying different things to different people just to get their vote? or is it just that I detest that man with a passion
Sorry read that 3 times not sure I understand the point you're trying to make. For me Galloway is a principled politician. I completely disagree with pretty much everything he says but respect him as a politician.
On the surface if those stats are right it looks off. Would like to know what the normal percentage of postal votes in a bi-election is tho.
I suspect it is bollox. I've seen people claiming that as much as 23k of the 30k vote were postal! There is definitely a Trump style effort to discredit postal voting going on by the usual suspects (Farage, Tice etc). As far as I can see, the Rochdale returning officer and council have not said what the number of postal ballots were yet. I may be wrong but I also can't find that tweet anymore. Has he deleted it or can you provide a link?
TBF the "SDP" set off my spidey-sense as they're little more than UKIP in disguise (nb what the SDP were is very different to what they are now.)
Sorry if this is old news for anyone (it was news for me), but it appears that Galloway has a very thin skin (like most mouthy bullies): George Galloway in libel complaint over The Bill storyline George Galloway upset by 'copycat' storyline The cat-impersonating Respect MP has complained to TalkBack Thames over a storyline in The Bill he claims was based on him
Interesting clip on the radio a couple of days ago of GG walking out of an Oxford Union debate, upon finding out that one of the other participants was an Israeli citizen. I think he will find it harder to pick and choose who he debates with in the HoC!
Yes, maybe my post wasn't clear but it absolutely should be one set of values for the whole electorate and I think campaigning like this is disgusting.
