Hi everyone, been reading a few posts on here today, obviously your all a bit down after a bad result, a few fingers being pointed at team selection and that but lets be realistic here...........Watford FC are now in the' Money Is The Be all and end all League'.
    Facts....
Team with most money= Chelsea - Champs
    Team with 2nd most money= Man U- 2nd
    Team with 3rd most money =Arsenal 3rd
Team with 4th most money= Liverpool 4th and so on and so on.

It is very rare that this top four monopoly gets broken and its the same all the way down the league. As a Liverpool fan I get optimistic that we might just win the prem soon, but realistically I don't think it will happen cos the very best players will be bought by Chelsea or Man U even if it is just to stop their rivals from buying them (One exception is Wenger who seems to find quality on the cheap).

Leeds are the prime example, throwing money at it got them to a Champs lge semi, but look at them now the money has run out ( you could argue it was never there in the first place).

Nearly every team that gets promoted goes straight back down, apart from the ones who've got a chairman with financial clout i.e. Dave Whelan at Wigan, Madjeski at Reading, Jack Walker at Blackburn etc etc.

A lot of so called good mangers have only done a job when they've got the financial backing.

    Paul Jewell- Bradford, no money=relegated
    Wigan- with money=10th in prem

Bryan Robson- Middlesbro ,With money= 2 Cup finals, then relegation
West Brom no money - Relegation

David o'leary- Leeds, Bucketfulls of cash= Runners up in prem, Champs lge semi
Villa - a lot less cash finished bottom 6

My point is don't be disheartened, Aidy is doing a remarkable job with the resources available to him, and finishing 17th would be a fantastic achievment.

Sorry to babble on a bit,
    Cheers RES

I think what gets on the fan's backs is that Aidy has spent the last couple of weeks talking about the importance of the fans, the atmosphere, us going the extra mile etc etc and that if we did that he would sort the team out. I think people just feel a bit dispondent that the fans have been let down in that little bargain! For the team to be seemingly unmotivated for a relegation 6 pointer at home is criminal. Have to agree with you about the money aspect and you're right that in the bigger picture there is no shame in finishing 17th or even (dare I say) being relegated. I just guess people buy into the hype and last night was a big old kick in the teeth.

completly agree. Last night was hyped up quite a lot in various ways, and things always feel like a bigger disappointment when it doesnt pan out the way you expect. But, like many people on here have said, I do agree that Aidy didn't make the best choices last night. But still, its clear to see he still has our support and loyalty

What you're saying is Aidy will get no where with us but will be a great success with club with money. Not much satisfaction there for us.

Most importantly if any manager can motivate the team after that performance and our run of 3 straight losses, it will be Aidy. He has that special leadership quality about him. Part of the reason we all feel more depressed is probably because we are now expecting to win, because of what he has achieved and says.

Losing week in, week out is not fun, but we just need to look at Palace and Leeds to remind our selves we could have been at the wrong end of the Championship if we hadn’t beaten either of those two sides.

Money certainly takes the sting out of being poor! But I dont think it counts for everything. If you look at last season when we were favourites for the drop, with very little cash.A lot of wealthier teams underachieved, spent loads more than we did and did'nt reach the playoffs even!

Achievement stems directly from the man in charge, we have the right man I firmly believe. I'm just not convinced that he is 100% commited to this style of play, certainly Berkinshaw cant be and what I would like to see have seen is him stick with what we did well last season using the players bought for the purpose!!

I agree with everything you say RES.
Finishing 17th would be fantastic even if it was secured in the 89th minute of the last game of the season by a goal that hits the post and ricochets in off the keepers knee. In the meantime we have to stay in touch with those above us and hope they have some dodgy decisions and injury problems too.

Sorry everyone, not made my point very well, what 'm trying to say is that you could have Moriniho, Ferguson or Wenger as boss but you'd probably still be in the same position.Thats what I hate about modern day footy, I have been very priveliged to support a team that has had more than its fair share of success over the years, and more than likely will in the future (in the terms of knock out cups, not too sure about the league) but our main challenge will be to overcome the same three clubs year in year out. The premier lge is split into four seperate divisions in my opinion, the top four, the next six, the next six and the bottom four and you can bet your life each of those 'mini leagues' will contain the same teams each season. ( Although having said that, on our away performances so far you might get a challenger to that fourth spot this season)

    All the best anyway,
    RES

Agree with what you are saying RES... Everyone wants to keep Aidy, of course they do, we love him!!

Did you hear about the plea for the voice of the 12th man? We all had a big yellow card on our seats urging us to vocally support the team... The 12th MAN where are you, let's hear you, let's be having you!!

But there is no point having a great 12th man, if the other 11 don't turn up!!

Wouldn't swap Aidy... WE JUST HURT

I agree to a point, although Boothroyd isn't exempt from criticism and the time has come for him to walk the walk.
He's talked the talk alot about how we aren't relegation candidates, blah blah blah and all the "plenty of positives from that". But the only way we wern't going to be relegation candidates was if he bought in some quality in august which we didnt.
So, i tihnk he's the only one that actually believed we wern't going to be battling against the drop.
