Too true. And let’s not forget the abysmal ball out of defence that led directly to Brighton’s first goal that set the tone for the whole season. And the ridiculous foul on Ings in perfect Ward-Prowse territory immediately after Soton had generously given us a way back into the game after the restart. He seemed truly brainless when he played for us.

That penalty foul at Arsenal annoyed me more than any other mistake. I genuinely thought we had a chance of winning that game with Arsenal's minds on the cup final. That stupid early pen killed any hope so damn quickly.

To be compounded by his part in the fiasco that was their 3rd goal. Even with giving them 2 goals and them scoring a deflected third, we still could have beaten them. Without that 1st minute penalty, I think we had a more than 50% chance of winning that game and staying up.

    Dawson sent off for WH

    Back to normal then !

Looks like we've had the last laugh on this after all. Was at fault for a couple of Newcastle's goals and was then sent off. Now he's got his contract he's gone back into donkey mode.

Question for @WatfordTalk - Dawson was sent off after the ref went back and gave him a second booking after playing the advantage from which Newcastle scored. Is that the exact same thing we were discussing the other week? Did the ref apply the law incorrectly here?
  8. WatfordTalk

    WatfordTalk First Team

Yeah, exactly what we were talking about. The booking will have been given for the tackle itself, rather than stopping a promising attack. Having watched it again, it was definitely reckless and worthy of a yellow.

Ref has done the right thing in playing the advantage, although you don't often see it for second yellows, as it creates a bit of a headache if the soon-to-be-dismissed player comes back and interferes with play, in which case I *believe* play is stopped, the player is sent off as planned, and an indirect FK is given where the player interfered.

    Correct decision, really good refereeing.

Excellent that West Ham got a Euro spot. If rumours are true, means we get more money for Dawson.

I can't imagine it's an amount that's going to be much to shout about, if so.

Yeah it isn’t, think I saw rumours of £1-2mil extra if they make Europe. It’s been a while so I could be making those numbers up in my head, but vaguely remember seeing something along those lines, I think.

Don’t knock it. If it’s an extra £1-2m Markoa$ quoted, that would be enough for another striker, 2 central midfielders and a centre half.

Not sure why we are even discussing this guy. It’s not as though euro-qualified WHU would sell one of their first choice CHs to us or that he would consider coming here. Might be worth a cheeky £10m bid but I think he’s a bit out of our league and we need to look elsewhere to strengthen.

It does remind though we are due now to sign a WBA player now they have been relegated. It’s both tradition and karma for stealing Robbo and dumping us with the duke

Well we have been linked to one who has been on loan to them.

    Wouldn't mind Pereira.

This is the team bus section, until the permanent move to West Ham is finalised, we can all talk about how he's the second best Craig who was at the club last season

I wonder, what made West Ham want to sign a 30-year-old defender who played a part in two relegations in three seasons, for a side whose defence is usually their Achilles heel? If you think about it, it made little more sense than us appointing Xisco as manager.

Seem to have played a key part though in their remarkable rise to 6th, and although their defence still isn't brilliant it's their lowest GA since Big Sam was manager and lower than ours in any of our Prem seasons. Does he play a part in the attack as well, eg set pieces?

Probably something to do with the fact professional clubs have staff with access to reams of data, scouting knowledge and experience that know a lot more than the casual fan whos grading scale seemingly only has 2 results, he's great or he's crap. Said fan scale is also prone to oscillate widely numerous times over a 90min game with whatever the final grade assigned is one the fan 'said all along!!!!!'

Dawson wasn't the worst to pass through here in recent times. Was probably our best player after the break last season which is really saying something, even with his brainfart moments at the back. He didn't settle straight away, our terrible start to the season didn't help, and it didn't work out. These things happen. We get a fee and move on. It looks like he has.

Well he didn't play until about December so I don't think he was brought in as a starter, I think Diop got Covid which allowed him a start

Such a bargain for the Hammers! Wow! Snap him up! Bargain of the season! Ho ho! Masterclass!

    Signs contract.

Still a starter in a team chasing a euro spot, and not one of the 3 lowest bbc rated WH players for the last 3 games that I just checked ?

He’s playing in a team with a meaningful attack, so is rarely under as much sustained pressure and therefore does ok in the main.

Would have loved to have seen him, WTE and Bachman play together just for the comedy/nightmares.

So now we know how to attract good signings. Not only are we a London club, we're also the perfect place to learn life lessons.

Or maybe he was saying the other players were crap, the backroom staff were crap and the head coach was crap. Who knew?
  28. inayellowshirt

    inayellowshirt From the other place

Id certainly read that we had a lot of individuals pulling in their own directions, and not a team.

In my mind this is always the failure point of the Pozzo model. We seem to bring in players with the sole purpose of a potential sell on fee. "Come to us, play well and you can go to a bigger the first bid that we like". Thats why we buy attacking player willy nilly as they can generate the biggest profit, defenders have to REALLY stand out to sell on for profit.. hence our lack of previous buys.

Tbf he had 3 managers in 6 months and probably wasn’t used to our methods and having someone from higher up watching you in training .
