Three hour blackouts possible in the Winter. Planned for, but unlikely as it stands. Much as I love the 1970s, not sure I want to relive this old classic. Tin of oxtail soup in a thermos anyone? https://news.sky.com/story/energy-c...se-heating-in-event-of-gas-shortages-12713253
I remember the schedules of which areas were being blacked out each day, being published in the Evening Echo.
I remember being highly pissed off when the power cut was in the afternoon 3 until 6 iirc, which meant no kids TV.
Not so bad a thing if it was Crystal Tipps and Alistair or Ludwig, but a disaster if it was the Tomorrow People.
I think the parties and bodies which make up the "Anti-Greed Coalition" should get together and mount an official looking "save energy this winter campaign" - it's time to show the electorate that there are sensible alternatives
My electricity bill actually went down this month. This so-called 'energy crisis' has clearly been blown out of all proportion by the looney lefties at the BBC
Truss vetoes plan for the Government to provide the Country with energy saving advice or to have a campaign to save energy, as they are doing in many other countries. It’s very hard to fathom why you would not do this. It appears that Truss has some libertarian notion that the public should not be told what to do. Ed Milliband: “With every decision she makes, Liz Truss is showing an unprecedented blend of zealotry and incompetence...” https://www.theguardian.com/society...climate-advisers-call-for-energy-saving-drive
This is a prime opportunity to apply Hanlon's Razor. "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity."
There is an energy shortage, saving energy will help no only those who save it but everyone else in the country. A mature country could admit this, denial of a huge problem is the sort of thing not even China would do. We are at North Korea's level
And the irony? Imagine if we'd all listened to Trump. This whole **** show has been manufactured to perpetualise the establishment comfort zone; like with COVID, the mega rich are getting richer (and don't know what to do with their money), the middle class 'intellectuals' are defending the mega rich by baiting and gaslighting the man in the street, and the poor are getting poorer. People are cheering this all on, whilst complaining about it at the same time. War is bad, but we need more of it! They've got us in their pockets, and none of them have been elected.
Gonna acknowledge Brexit's role in all this? Exactly what 'they' wanted and the 52% willingly walked into the trap. The electorate has a PM it didn't choose implementing policies it hasn't voted for. Not quite the sovereignty they voted for.
This latest debacle is just another work of entropy for the dying universe that is Brexit. Always a ridiculous and logic defying proposal, sold and sold again on one false prospectus after another, by self-interested charlatans and liars with no more on their minds than reducing their tax bills and regulation. This is how Brexit’s contradictions play out. Increasingly desperate and preposterous.
Tangentially related since the perpetrator was yelling about the cost of living crisis too. https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-63254878 I'm sympathetic with the need for sustainable energy, the need to move away from oil, and the need to find a solution to the cost of living crisis, but this sort of thing is a really daft way to make your point and won't win you any friends.
