Apologies if there's already a thread on this but I couldn't see one. Obviously our focus now is the Premier League (still can't quite get my head around that, even today!) but I thought it would be worth having a thread keeping an eye on what's going on in the Championship too. Hopefully, to see who's likely to be joining us here next season, rather than who we will be passing as we head back there

So, any thoughts/observations, stick them in here.

Good, something to take my mind off the game!

I pick Boro and Derby to come up. Any one from Ipswich,QPR,Forest,Brentford,Wolves,Burnley to join them.

Great (female!) minds think alike. I was thinking Boro, Derby and Burnley (although Leeds looking the better side in their match today). Don't fancy QPR. (Watch them walk it now)

Think Leeds will at the least make the play-offs (despite Burnley's equaliser).

You may well be correct HH24 re QPR Rangers ( as a policeman called them in 1969, according to my brother!) Especially if Phillips and Austin hop it!

So hard to predict as most of us recognise.Nice to look down from Olympus at the mortals!

Funnily enough I was going to include them in my post as my "outside bet", after seeing them at the end of last season, but I bottled it! My Wednesday-supporting friend reckons they'll either go up or be relegated!

Anyone decide to watch a bit of the Football League Tonight show on Channel 5? I'm watching the repeat, and it's atrocious. You thought the Football League Show was bad? This is at least 20 times worse. The Championship fans are crying out for Manish and Claridge, which is saying something. Even though we'll get patronised every so often, at least MotD is nowhere near as bad as the FLT.

What was so bad about it? I didn't even know channel 5 had their own iplayer thing.

I watched about 20 minutes to see just how bad it was. That show is about as tinpot as it will ever get. Highlights of this festival of ****e are: top-gearesque bunch of ****s standing around in football shirts in cringe inducing crowd format; terrible terrible presenters with attempted banter throughout the show; double tinpot manual spin around league table boards; Martin Allen bought on as lead guest like its TFI Friday, wearing a shirt that does not do much for his ever increasing gut, embarrassingly being asked to commentate through the highlights of his teams woeful performance at Orient; 1970's standard graphical overlay on the game highlights; playing some championship games, then league 1 and 2, then some more championship.

I hope I'm painting a clear picture. Please watch to experience this yourselves. So glad we're not part of it...

That bit sounds alright, as long as they do it in a MotD sort of ordering (aka most exciting games first). Imagine it's a right ball-ache to sit and wait for your team if you support a league 2 team.

Middlesbrough were bang average. Not a single shot on target. Don't understand why lots of people think they'll walk the league. They're far too defensive and won't score enough goals.

Unless they manage to find a replacement for Bamford, someone who's going to get them 15-20 goals. If they do, they'll go up in my opinion, though they won't be walking the league. Looks like a very average league this season though - the three best teams went up last season and three worse teams went down. Not seen anything to convince me that any of the teams from last year will be that much better this time around.

  15. Few things didn't work and a few bits felt awkward but overall I liked the show, glad c5 didn't just serve up more of the old FLS format. Liked the time spent on L1 and L2.

Don't think the championship will be as tough this year.

I quite liked how they spent a fair amount of time on L1 and L2. I didn't like people droning on while the goals were being shown. Also the presenters getting excited about the league table after 1 match was absurd.

Boro will spend big on a striker and get promoted.

I actually thought that Brighton were a very good team last season when we played them at the Amex, and slightly reminded me of Burnley the season before they came up. They would probably be my outside bet.

What would worry me if I was a Boro fan is that they looked so unproductive. If they aren't creating any chances I'm not sure how buying Rhodes will help too much.

Only one game, but blimey that was a hard game to watch.

I fancy Ipswich or sheff wed as outside shots.

Can't find any odds on first manager to be sacked, think it will be Ramsey or th Fulham boss (can't think of his name at the moment)

  20. Can't judge from a few seconds of clips, but from what was shown I liked the look of Wednesday

I said this last week and thankfully it still holds true now. Wednesday are 9/4 at most bookies to get into the top 6- I'd lump on that as if there's no tomorrow. I personally think they'll get top 2 but top 6 is safer and it's not as if the odds aren't bad. They made some very good acquisitions in the summer (FFS aside) and their manager looks to be good

I think they have a shot but 9/4 doesn't get the pulse racing when the cash is tied up for 9 months.

Bump! Maybe this could be merged with Malteser's thread?
As we approach the home straight of the season, my prediction of Derby, Burnley and Boro to go up with Wednesday as an outside bet isn't looking too shabby. I would like Brighton to take one of those places, though.

Could the Championship be any more exciting this year

2 games to go, 3 teams on the same points seperated by a goal difference of 3 and 2 of them playing each other on the last game of the season

Want Burnley and Brighton to come up

Haven't seen much of Burnley but based on today their tactics just seem to be hoof it towards Gray
