When were these supposed decent performances? I have personally witnessed none. Didn't set Swansea alight when there either. Where you get 4-5m is beyond me. A small profit on a player who will disappear into obscurity is better than nothing.

I have concerns about Quina - but I also dont think playing him at striker or on the wing did him any favours. Doesn't explain some of the issues he had, but it certainly didn't help.

Ngakia did very little wrong at right back, but there seems to be a slightly negative perception of him based on his performances at left back. Agree re Kiko though.

Wilmot is a right footed centre back who he chose to try play at left centre back - a position he is plainly unsuited to. Agree re Sierralta but don't think Wilmot did much worse than WTE.

Whether these players will make it, I don't know, but there does seem to be a recurring theme of us playing them out of position and wondering why it doesnt work.

If he wanted to go, and wasn’t going to get first team games I don’t see a problem. There may be more to this, and likely he was unhappy about lack of game time; he has got a point, but we got promoted without him and he was nowhere near the 1st team. The alternative would have been a loan, but if the club didn’t see him enough to suggest he could make it at PL level then he would never be worth big bucks.

Swansea fans were very positive about his time there and I thought he looked decent for us in most of the games he played.

I'm all for slagging off our players and pointing out how sh*t they are, but when it comes to a 21 year old centre back like Wilmot it's completely illogical.

If Ivic had stuck around, Quina would have got enough minutes to avoid being loaned out I suspect, and who knows, maybe we'd have had a formation change and he could have flourished. Ngakia, sure, but Sierralta was rested for Derby (when we ironically could have done with him more than ever lol), we didn't have to literally start Kiko every game. I just think it's very odd we had three talented youngsters on the books who all got completely frozen out even though they all had some degree of success (Quina admittedly less than the others)

He simply doesn't have the physical stature of a centre back, if he did he would of been playing. They see him day in day out in training and obviously see nothing in him.
As for Swansea if he was that good for them why didn't they come back in for him? I wouldn't say he was a regular for them even then.

A nonsense piece of business leaving us short of options at the back unless we sign an experience replacement.

I really liked him and thought he was progressing well. Good luck to him

You slag players off you've never even seen! I'm not slagging him off, I just don't believe he's good enough for us at the moment. Will he be in time? We shall see but I haven't seen anything from him to suggest there is a Premier League player in the making

He has a point this time. Unless Wilmot was absoutely forcing the issue I doubt we'd have sold him and I can't hold it against him if he was.

Writing was on the wall when he was mugged off in the final game against Swansea.

Best of luck to him, Stoke is a perfect move for him.

He'll barely play for Stoke. A player who just couldn't rise to the challenge.

    Stevenage was his level.

We should have just sold him for £5m+. Crazy decision to choose to sell him for less than we could have easily got from one of the other buyers queuing up to take a CH who wasn't happy, wouldn't make our first team, and wouldn't sign another contract.

Oh I don’t think Wilmot did any worse than WTE - but Troost-Ekong is a leader along the back line and leads that unit. Hence why I think he was in most weeks.

Assumes we couldn’t get more money - whilst simultaneously assuming all the other points made.

    Classic sarcasm.

Whatever your views are on Wilmot's ability, it's a terrible deal for the club. Really not sure what we're thinking. 21 years old, an England U21 international, nearly 50 games at Championship level and with a couple of years left on his contract. We're probably going to make pennies on him as I assume Stevenage are due a cut of the profit. If Transfermarkt is correct we're getting less for Wilmot than we got for Foulquier!

I think a loan move for him this season would have been better, however it's clear he's not good enough to be in the first team right now so this sale is understandable.

The weird obsession our fans have with players like Quina, Wilmot, Penaranda etc is strange. They had the opportunity last year to make the grade but all failed to take it.

Yes I'm sure Gino didn't think to try to get a higher price. I suspect he just phoned up 3 championship clubs and that was the best price he was quoted.
We either bought a dud, or were worried he'd walk away for nothing, he'd refused to go on loan, maybe there's a great sell-on clause....I don't know, we clearly didn't do a good job of developing him, or maybe there wasn't the ability to develop. They see a lot more of him than we do and think this is a good deal, there must be a reason. The market is clearly depressed at the moment hence the £3.4m(?) for our new striker whose club rejected a £20m(?) bid in January.

I don’t know if you can really say any of them failed to make the grade. They haven’t played enough to draw that conclusion and in Wilmot’s case specifically I don’t think he fell short of what was required at all. That’s why he was so frustrated at the end of the season not to have played more - he’d earned it.

So why do you think we sold him for this reported price ? Do you think the club didn't consider the options ie hold on for a better offer, consider loans and just took the first offer ? Maybe they did, but I doubt they are that stoooopid.

Thought announcing the Emmanuel Dennis yesterday was a bit strange given it was before a medical and the personal terms. Couldn't work out why they rushed it out. I wonder now if it was to soften us up for this news.

Even before getting on to the nonsense that he was close to being our "second best defender", he only played the 5th most minutes out of all our CBs, so you can't really credit much of our defensive record as being down to him. Most of those minutes were also in a back three, or as a sub in CM.

As a side-note, Stock have been favouring a back 3 lately, which should help cover for him again.

Based on what? Quina stopped getting minutes because he hadn't done well in his early appearances, and we got more midfielders back fit and so didn't need to persist with him while he was underperforming. I think it was more due to the poor squad Ivic had at the start of the season, than any particular fondness he had for Quina.

How? We have 5 CBs for just 2 starting spots, 4 of which are pretty experienced - that's plenty.

I'd still like us to sign an upgrade on T-E, but if that happens then I'd expect one of Cathcart or Kabasele to also leave, as the current amount seems about right.

On the one hand I'm disappointed if he's going, but on the other for him, he needs to be playing games not sitting in our stands.

He has never looked to me ready for the PL so a loan would have made sense to me, but I'd be surprised if he wasn't being replaced. Wasn't there talk of a Udinese CB a few weeks back on here?
