...check out the front page, (click on Aidy above). We're testing something out for people who are here when live Watford matches are taking place. Totally 100% UEA_Hornet's idea, and I think it could be a winner. Opinions required here, the mod will ONLY run when Watford are playing.
Excellent idea for the people not able to attend watford matches. may also be an idea for the International competitive fixtures as well.
My own ones seems to take a second to appear too - when i tried to type something else before it came up a message appeared saying "loading message"
I guess I should explain the idea on here, so people can give better opinions. Basically I've noticed on here and the old MB that during Watford matches there are around 5-10 people online, who all keep each other updated from various sources on what's going on in the match. It's all a bit chatty, most it is repeated 10 times over (ie. goal, so and so booked etc) and I very much doubt if anyone coming home from the match bothers to read the in-match threads. So I thought it would be better if there was a way for people to actually chat in real-time rather than post messages, seen as no one reads them anyway. The idea was only for during Watford matches, or maybe other popular events, as this is afterall a message board and it wouldn't be fair on people to miss out on debates cos they weren't online. Plus there might be some members who don't like that format at all and would never use it. So...what do we think?
Definate slow down when it first appeared, then when I asked everyone to press F5 to refresh the page. Loading the utility causes lag when we all do it together. One or 2 coming in doesn't hurt so much. I'd say it's a superb idea by UEA, I'd also say it was more of a success than not tonight, so I think we need a live match test next.
Interestingly I've just been chatting to kingjames77 well after everyone else had gone and you'd shut it down. Of course no one else coming on the site could see it and as soon as I refreshed the box was gone, so no real harm can be done there. I thought it was a good test - speechmarks came up a bit weird and a couple of people seemed to suffer from the lag more than others. I still think with the skeleton crew on on matchdays it'll be fine.
I shut it down but it stays active until you physically leave as you noticed. Don't see that as a problem. I'd appreciate honest views from everyone who used it. Would you use it on a match day if you couldn't attend?
I think its a great idea, for those who can't attend a match. Not something i would use as i go home and away, but for those that can't it could be very beneficial. My only concern would be the potential "abuse". Twit A who users the site, registers another name at 3pm and by the time the mods / admin are back from the game the damage is done and nobody knows who caused the problem.
Even in tonights little test we had some schoolboy insults from a usual suspect, but if we can have someone overviewing the whole thing AND they can use the commands to prune messages then it could be abuse free. Plus with IP tracking in the background there's a good chance of catching the culprits.
If only you could program electric shocks via the keyboards of annoying influences. It would be much funnier and would stop them coming back ;D Edit: I've just realised this would be a problem for Luton fans, as it infers they run their 'computers' on something other than a windup handle and copious amounts of horse manure.
Well then, if there is a designated shout monitor and/or at least one mod around, we shouldn't have too many problems right?
