Noticed yesterday a fan asked on twitter if he was staying, his reply was 'I don't know yet..' so its a possibility
Got to love the fact that yet again we can put out TWO teams that would easily do well in the Championship. Strength in depth was needed last year and I reckon it will stand in good stead for the coming one too.
Probably on standby to be the last squad striker if the club doesn't land their first choice. Perhaps if Ranegie/Ighalo decide they're not interested? Acuna replaced Vydra, but we haven't replaced Geijo yet. My feeling is that the fact he was training with the squad and played in the intra-squad friendly is telling. Geijo is far from a bad player and if he's happy to be here, having another settled player who already knows the squad is to our benefit. He's very popular in the team, and can only benefit the team spirit. I wouldn't be surprised to see him back.
I think we have replaced him. .... I'd you think Uche is going to sit on the bench all season or go to Stevenage on loan I can't see it. Britt may well be more involved. Fab and Fozza will be tried together at some point..... I don't think we need him. Sign the trialist keeper and add a DM and we re there. ... we d be alright without tho. Another would just be a luxury. ... but I fully expect a decent surprise to come in from a top 5 prem club on loan.
If Deeney were to get seriously injured, I doubt Ikpeazu would be able to step in for a full season. He's only just left Reading's academy, we don't want to ruin him. My feeling is that we need a decent senior pro backup for Deeney in case the worst happens, so that we can use our young players when we WANT to, not because we HAVE to. I think we stunted a lot of our recent young talent by throwing them into the team on a regular basis far too early.
Deeney is key for our success, he managed to be injury free and remarkably durable last season but there's no guarantee he will stay injury free this. Britt and Uche I imagine will go out on loan with a clause for return if injury strikes so I expect one from Geijo/Ranegie/Ighalo. What we have to remember is unlike days gone by we don't have to watch every penny spent just to survive falling into debt or at worst administration. With the Pozzo's in charge their huge pool of players and the need for them to be utilised to help their development and boost value means we may get a player or two we don't necessarily need but are handy to have nonetheless. Geijo comes into that category.
Looks like Geijo is on his way to London to carry on preseason. Nothing set in stone that it is us or he is signing but a coincidence that all others are on their way too.
I think he'll get trials and go on loan somewhere ... Brighton, Bournemouth, even Reading or QPR as cover.
Right at the end of the article about Iriney published today on the WO site, it says that although Geijo is training with WFC at the moment, it is very unlikely he will be staying with us! A pity really, as I think he would be a useful squad player?
Two goals v Borehamwood today, despite coming on after half time. Still think he's worth another look.
He did brilliantly tonight, two great goals. I also agree about covering Troy, but I am not so sure that Geijo is the man. He's big, but not really in the Deeney role. Seems to want to start more deep and run at the box; I don't really think of them as like for like. Think he can also look a little out of his depth at times. Would have no probs with him re-signing, as he seems to have a lot to offer the club, possibly in the Steve Harrison morale officer type role, but still think he was one of the less effective loanees.
Geijo looked like a differently player last night. However, you could tell it was him as his first touch at times was a bit suspect. Linked up very well with Battocchio. Geijo would need to be a target man with someone playing off of him, he has quick feet for a tall guy and doesn't often fall over them along with decent distribution. Certainly an option for the club, I think.
I still don't understand how in one season at Granada he scored 28 goals. Last season it just seemed that he just wanted to stand in the middle of the pitch letting the ball bounce off him once or twice a game. But last game he certainly looked like a different player.
Two reasons 1- he scored 28 goals in the spanish 2nd division which is a very average league 2 - it was a 1 season wonder. His record through his career is hardly impressive, especially the last 6 or 7 years. If you read his profile he has only ever scored goals in the 2nd tier of football and never cut the mus**** when he has stepped up a level. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexandre_Geijo
the first two points there will never happen. There is a reason why he didn't manage to break into the team last year.
How can you say that when he's never had a decent run at a top level? 15 goals in 42 starts for Levante 1 goal in 8 starts for Racing Santander 0 goals in 4 starts for Udinese 26 goals in 42 starts for Granada 2 goals in 8 starts for Watford
Back from my hols in Coruña and can get connected properly. Apparently we (Deportivo) are getting Geijo. We are just waiting for some fiscal issues between Geijo and Udinese, whatever that might mean, this is what our president said last week.
