Issue with that is Nigeria have Oshimen and Iheanacho are almost certain to be ahead of him in the pecking order - not to mention Dennis has barely kicked a ball for them.

Far more likely he’s backup who gets a few minutes here and there but spends most of the time sat on the bench whilst we desperately need him over here.

 

We won’t. They will cram them into the final months and wait for weekends to free up as teams drop out of the FA Cup.

And that is even if we have the right to stop him going to AFCON we should leave it up to Dennis whether he does or not.

However at the same time we should sit him down and make it very clear that we really do not want him to go as we believe him going could have a major bearing on whether or not we manage to maintain our PL status.

Hopefully he will put club over country on this occasion as he is still relatively young and should have many more years to achieve the ambition of playing in the AFCON tournament.

I am not too sure what to make of this.

 

It's nonsense. AFCON disrespects itself and the players by being scheduled midway through the European season.

 

I do not think it is disrespect to AFCON it's more THE TIMING of the tournament! As it takes away key players from teams at many leagues throughout the world and seriously disrupts those teams. I don't believe it has anything to do with Racism as Ian Wright and others seem to be suggesting, it's purely the very disruptive timing of it and that's it.

 

To be honest I think it is a horrible take to make it about race. The disrespect is simply because
Afcon is the only international tournament which takes place during club competitions. Maybe that is where most clubs have an issue with the tournament rather than the countries in itself.

 

They owe us a deep-rooted apology for perpetuating the myth that WTE is a competent footballer for a start.

 

Confirmed: Emmanuel Dennis is NOT going to AFCON and has been ‘excused’.

 

Nigeria clearly made an error as this has been swiftly resolved.

Dennis likely to be unhappy, but we're paying him to play for us, and at present is irreplaceable

 

The whole thing seems very odd to me.

On rearranging games, the Times reported yesterday that using Champions League weeks is being considered.

 

We should play all of our games in Champions League weeks as none are against CL teams.

 

The club knew the AFCON was happening when they signed these players, there was always a chance Dennis could’ve been called up. The club trying to have their cake and eat it and deny a player the chance to play for their country would quite frankly be disgusting behaviour.

I seriously hope nothing remotely along the lines of what you suggested was behind him not going.

 

The Asian Cup also takes place during the season, albeit every 4 years not every 2

Wobby says Dennis was basically told he would be a back up in the squad and decided to stay and play for us instead.

I expect we gave him the option of going or not.

It's entirely possible that he wanted to go but spoke to the Nigeria coach and then decided it wasn't worth going.

 

Hopefully this! You could almost understand if he thinks he's not going to get the game time. Nigeria must have fantastic options upfront and out wide if this is the case?

If the reason he didn't go is because Nigeria wouldn't guarantee him as a starter, I understand why they might not want to do that but in a realpolitik sense it seems maybe a little stupid - he's one of the most in form attackers in football at the moment, relatively-speaking, let alone the Nigerian national team squad, and he's previously basically ruled himself out through bad relations with a coach of theirs. Given his 'enigmatic' persona, you'd think it might be worth indulging him to secure his future with said national team - particularly given his talent for producing goals out of absolutely nothing whilst playing for an otherwise shyt team; something that would seem ideally suited to tournament football.
