Hopefully as the light dims a little England will break through. So far though, the aussies are making decent headway.

I know they won't reach our target set but Aussies have made a decent start.

Lets see, highly unlikely, everything is against them, but its been a weird series, one more twist to come??????

With the Aussies you can never tell. Good start too.

If they do then they deserve the Ashes for this innings alone. But it'll never happen.

    Not necesserily.
They could do what we did in the 1st test

England only had to bat for 4 sessions in the first test on a pitch which had already seen 1100 runs scored before they got into the attack. Rain curtailed things as well. It doesn't compare really.

I am sure the same press that battered the side after we got hammered in the 4th test will now be calling everyone heros and calling for MBEs!

    ;)

Anyway great performance to bounce back and hopefully we can retain them in Oz late next year (I think)

Struass lead by example with his batting and bowling was excellent all round from pretty much all of the bowlers.

Hopfully Broad will be the replacement for Freddie we hope he would be now...you just knew Flintoff would play some major part on his final day in a test.

it has been great following England this year. At the start of the year i think everyone thought we would get hammered, but they found there form again ,and have been getting better and better as the years gone on. I love the ashes, but i get so nervous i cant even watch it on the tv. I allways following text online at work and then watch the highlights. Once i knew for sure it was won i can they turn the tele on, and relax.

For the players it was very different to 2005, as Harmy said, they won it in the dressing room. Today they won it on the pitch.

So berks, will you get money back for missing the 5th day?

Superb, has shown why test match cricket has to continue - so many ups and downs, twists and turns. WHo believed as Colinwood left the field at Cardiff we would win it, (and get a victory at Lords?)

Surrey CC will be the only ones p*ssed at England winning in four days after unusually selling all tickets for day 5 in advance. all to be refunded although covered by insurance possibly but big loss in revenue from beer and pie sales.

It's a bit unfair that we only get to hold the Ashes for about 15 months before getting pounded by the Aussies down under when they get to keep them for about two and a half years before they come back.

Unless of course we do them in australia of course.

    They'll destroy us down under.

2005 all we had to do was bat out the final 2 days... this one we had to take 20 wickets to win.

i think this is the start of the decline of the aussie team expect to see a few retirements soon

  26. wfcmoog

    wfcmoog Tinpot

How many times over the past 20 years have I heard people predict "the decline of the Aussie team?"

They'll be back and they'll be stronger. We'll just have to make sure that we are stronger still.

  27. berkshirehorn

    berkshirehorn presumably I upset/disappointed someone

Haven't they had a few in last couple of years? Langer, Warne, McGrath, Gillespie, Martyn, Gilchrist, Hayden. Almost a complete team. Who else is there to retire? Ponting's going nowhere.
