..... York City defeated Manchester City 2-1 at Bootham Crescent.

Today Manchester City sit on top of the Premier League and York are mid-table in National League North

    Makes you think, dunnit ?

    Good Lord!
Credit to City fans though, they maintained a steady 30,000 plus home gate IIRC?
The mighty Toon were down to 11,000 when Ardiles was boss. Incidentally he still owes me £10 from 1987!

Not quite such a large gap in divisional status - but 19 years ago today also, we lost 2-1 at Grimsby to a last minute goal (some things never change). Of course, we now sit mid table in the prem (for now) whilst Grimsby are mid table in League 2.

Decided to go on the supporters coach (crazy, I know) - when it stopped to let us off, as we stepped out of the coach the grass bank was covered in dog ****. I got the feeling then it wasn't going to be a good day:eek:.

This was during the period that Jackett was back in charge as GT was ill due to an abscess in his throat, IIRC.

Burnley were in that division that year also, along with Stoke and Bournemouth.

Not quite.. City went down to 19K in the late 80's though up to 28K by the mid 90's.
Newcastle averaged 21K when Ardiles was there.. though in those days crowds still fluctuated greatly so had some attendances as low as 11K

We were averaging 8-9K in the mid 90's so we are now more than doubling our crowds from back then.
