16th August 2012: Judgement Day

So who else is getting their A-Level Results tomorrow?

Am I right in thinking that they've changed it so you can't see if you've got into Uni at midnight this year, but have to wait until 8am.

I remember this time last year ****ting myself. Just remember that as soon as the moment they said in the exam "pens down" the results were set in stone and theres nothing you can do to change it.

Last year I stayed up all night refreshing the ucas site it was only at 5am that it confirmed I got into Cardiff, ran upstairs woke up my parents etc.

 

I'm absolutely terrified.

I need AAB, pretty sure I've got A*BB.

I've asked my insurance to reject me, so it's Birmingham or clearing for me.

 

Was it done on grades or UCAS points? If its points you'll be fine.

Why did you ask your insurance to reject you?

 

Grades sadly, just have to hope for the best. Hopefully those grades would get me something in clearing.

Really don't want to go to Nottingham Trent to be honest, have my heart set on one of Birmingham, Nottingham or Leeds.

 

I applied to nottingham but they rejected me. I'm so glad they did now because I love Cardiff. I'd be very very happy to continue to live here after my degree has ended. I was also lucky to get in. I needed AAB i got BBB and they still accepted me because the Welsh assembly announced extra funding at the last minute.

What course do you want to do?

 

Business management, although I'm actually flexible, not really sure what I want to do yet. If Birmingham would let do another course, I'd probably (within reason) take that. What did you do the day before results? I'm sitting here with no direction, absolutely petrified!

I need 300 points for Lincoln, then BCC with the B in Media Studies for Chichester. Really not confident at all about it, definitely messed up my English Literature exams as well as the others. Looks like re-taking and re-applying next year! Maybe my AS Grades might save me.

 

I think the night before I went out to the pub. I was so nervous because I made a dreadful mistake on my psycholoy exam, I didn't realised there was a last page of questions on the back of the sheet it didn't say turn over or anything and left a big gap. So i missed out a whole answer worth 12 marks, which is an entire grade, so I didn't think I would get into cardiff.

 

Thanks for that Simms, weirdly enough has made me feel a little bit better.

 

Even idiots can get into Russel Group university these days!

What subjects did you take? Did you do any additional stuff like general studies?

 

YK, there's nothing you can do about it now so no point sitting there fretting, go out with some mates and do something.

 

I need 300 points as well but I already have 80 so and needed 2 D's in my exams to get As overall. It'd take a monumental **** up from me not to get in!

I think you're right about Ucas Don, which is a bit annoying, although imagine trying to sleep having checked your Ucas at 12 and seeing you hadn't got in!

This time last year, fookin' hell doesn't time fly!

 

Don't know what to do with myself right now. Quite happy to go to my insurance choice but will be devastating if I don't get in there. At least I've got Reading Festival next week to look foward to, as long as my ticket bloody arrives!

 

So glad I'm done with all this exam results *******s. Uni was good but I'm very happy to be done. I've said goodbye to my course and that's that.

How have you already got 80 points?

 

I presume from his AS Level that he dropped at the start of the year. Sadly I didn't finish my AS Course in maths, bloody stupid subject I hated it.

 

In my experience, a large number of people who don't make the required grades will still be accepted for admission to their first choice. So I wouldn't worry about it. Very important to keep in mind that whatever happens, it's not the end of the world either way. It may seem like it at the time, but you'll find another path to take and no doubt it'll work out for you in ways that you never expected. Very few tend to follow a linear path through A Levels and beyond.

As for today, get drunk.

 

I didn't think you got points for those? If so I actually got 400 UCAS points. I could've gone to oxford!

 

You can get a remark if you don't get what was expected.

 

You only get them if you finish it at AS and don't carry it on. For example I only did three AS Levels and had to carry them on, thus I got no extra points

 

I need AAAC for Imperial college medicine. I want to say that I've got it but I've never been a good caller of results so dunno. Really bricking it as well because these are the lowest grades offered in the country for med so if i don't get these grades it's no med for me at all

 

Ok yeh I did 5 As levels, but didn't do Critical thinking or economics in the 2nd year.

 

Don is correct. The top unis don't use points, otherwise they'd get average people going, not the cream of the crop. I got 2 C's at as level which I dropped, one was in citizenship though, which a lot of unis don't take, but luckily mine does.

 

Ah ok I didn't apply for any uni that takes points I don't think.

All unis at my course thought taking Critical Thinking was good, although they didn't accept it, because its related to the subject that made the difference between two equal people.

 

Yeah I'm staying at home, so just going herts. Probably could of got into a better uni but I know for a fact I'd hate it!

I still have no idea what time we have to get our results tomorrow, no email and not on the school website!

 

But we could've had another wonderful Uni thread?!

I don't think I'll sleep tonight so maybe a late night FIFA or FM session or finish a video project.

We also haven't been told anything, not good at all really

Good luck guys, got mine last year and you can try and check the ucas website at midnight but only if you're lucky before it crashes!

Don't worry if you don't get the grades, i needed AAB for my course and ended up getting in with BBB, good luck again!
