Its daft to compare a goalkeeper to outfield players because they are such utterly different roles. You may just as well include the manager in there too. Playing outfield is much much more difficult and involves much higher levels of skill and fitness. He's had a great season and is among the best goalies around. But goalkeepers are second class footballers. That's why all the people who were **** at football went in goal.
It's not rocket science,Gomes should have started the Palace game with Pants playing at WHU in the weakened team we put out. That way Gomes goes into the Palace game full of confidence, the defence have the keeper they have played most of the season behind them and If it did go to pens he has the high ground. However, he plays against WHU ,concedes 3 ,2 pens and and potential gain in confidence for him and the defence is shot.Simples.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing. In the build up to the game I stated that I don't really rate Pants or consider him to be anywhere near as good a keeper as Gomes, like some others on here said they did. However, Quique was in an impossible position and had made a rod for his own back. Had he gone with Gomes and we had still lost we'd be hearing about how he has no honour and that the decision to sell out one of the players led to dressing room discontent and all the rest of it.
Foresight is even better, I commented on playing Pants in the WHU game and Gomes against Palace before the Semi.
I bet he would have loved that. Given assurances he would be our cup keeper then being dropped for the semi at Wembley and given a dead rubber midweek game against West Ham by way of compensation.
It certainly is. He is almost as good as Enzo Scacchia who is probably the best 'organetto' player in the world!
It's a rocking groove and no mistake! Is it up there with Bernard Lewis on the comb and paper with Walter Lees on washboard, performing Mozart's Clarinet Concerto I wonder?
What's forro? edit - don't worry, googled it. At risk of being subject to a massive whoosh, it's not him. It's Enzo Scacchia.
its a genre of music. this particular strand of the genre is very popular this time of year because its the traditional music of the june festivals. but i find it annoying and difficult to dance to. at least he wasn't playing sertaneja i guess
Taxi for Gomes Somewhat escaping notice, forgivablly given the dross ahead of him, was another dismal showing from the supposed custodian of the onion bag. His performances this season have been way below his previous level and his bottle appears to have well and truly gone. I could forgive his diabolical kicking and distribution if he would get in where the boots are flying, but he just doesn't fancy it. First and third goals were both crying out for him to either make himself big Schmicael style whilst advancing at speed towards the forward or to go to ground directly at the ball, instead he sort of ambles forward then lies down sideways in instalments, making an already inviting target unmissable. Whilst the centre backs were also at fault for Kane's second, a positive, brave keeper would have cleared the lot out, rather than dithering uselessly on his line. He's been at fault or partially culpable for a significant minority of the goals conceded this season and really should be pensioned off. Not a huge Pantillimon fan by any means, but I'd take him over HG any day.
He's what I call doing an Almunia. He's going on a noticeable decline this Season. He's culpable for 1st goal certainly, but the rest were on the defense's head not his. I do agree though we should be looking at getting a new 1st Choice keeper though such as Adler (Out of Contract this Season) or Szczesny after he's back from his loan at Roma.
