Andrew Maxwell was extremely good on this (on BBC R4's News Quiz) highlighting the Kurds' (amongst others) contribution to the allies in WWII...

“Good” and “The News Quiz” are oxymorons.

I didn't say "...funny..." I said "...good..." - Andrew Maxwell was very good on this.

Trump has really been outdoing himself with the stupid **** these last weeks. First the abandonment of the Kurds and the nonsense about WW2. Today ‘they’re not all angels’ he says as Kurdish civilians die.

And then the ridiculous stunt with the parents of Harry Dunn, trying to set up a meeting with the woman who drove the car that killed him. For what reason? So they could forgive her presumably and Trump could be seen as a healer.

President Jeremy ******* Kyle says David Baddiel.

I really don't think the parents have been ween well advised on that one. They demanded to see her and then for a meeting with Trump. Not many times you can demand a meeting with the US President and get it just like that. He shouldn't have done the 'guess who's behind that door?' surprise schtick but it can hardly be a surprise he went down that path. The parents are greiving so I don't blame them. It's the lawyers and other advisors who need to look at themselves.

I thought they had made it clear they wanted to meet her in the UK?

But yes, advisors should have known that any meeting with Trump would be horrific.

I wish I could say the above is a fake, but it isn't. This really was sent to Erdogan by Trump.

EDIT: Beeb reporting that Erdogan apparently threw the letter in the bin. That's the first thing he's done I agree with!

The best news I’ve gotten since Trump’s election is that he was loudly booed by the crowd when his stupid face was put on the big screen at the baseball championship tonight.

Fortunately Trump was able to distract with the happy news of Baghdadi’s death, ‘more important’ than Bin Laden and astonishingly something that may even be broadcast if Trump gets his way.

    1984 anyone?

It's moments like these the football community needs to put aside rivalry and do the right thing. RIP.

    Indeed. He's definitely in trouble.

Public opinion has swung strongly towards impeachment, including strong gains for independents. McConnell is no longer defending Trump and is even contradicting him at times (not to mention the scathing op-ed he wrote about the Kurd situation). Perhaps most tellingly, none of the Republican House members on the committees sitting in on the closed impeachment hearings are speaking up against it or casting doubt on the process.

Despite all the partisan defense of Trump some of the Republicans are engaging in, the most important thing to focus on is what isn't being said and who isn't saying it. I think it's very possible McConnell has turned, and if he has that's the end for Trump. He's objectively guilty on the Ukraine scandal, so his only hope is partisan voting by the Senate. If he's lost the majority leader it's all over.

Glorious stuff. Must be a real eye opener to leave your safe space and find out what the general public really thinks of you, away from the sycophants at your rallies and the yes men you've hired to surround you in the White House.

    EDIT: higher quality video here:

I think Trump just boosted Labours chances thanks to his phone call with Farage on LBC, basically said Corbyn would be really bad for the country and Boris would be fantastic. First time a President has got involved with a foreign election publicly, worlds gone mad.

I think Obama was the first to interfere with our politics when he stuck is oar in about Europe and that quite rightly peed a few people off.

Boris needs to tell Trump to endorse the Labour Party as his support is a hindrance not a help.

Roger Stone convicted on all 7 counts in his trial. He'll be in jail for the rest of this life unless Trump pardons him.

Meanwhile, two days of Impeachment hearings down so far and in both cases the witnesses have knocked it out of the park. Schiff is doing an excellent job running things, far better than I hoped.

The Republican running defense are like watching children. It's embarrassing for them and this will be the enduring footage of these particular reps that will be preserved for future generations.

Thus far, things are going very, very badly for Trump.

I still think it's unlikely that the Senate will vote to convict, but the damage from these hearings will be felt further downstream when those who go on record voting to protect him have to fight reelection campaigns. Public opinion is shifting sharply. The Republicans will piss off their base if they vote to convict, or they'll lose independents and control of all branches of government if they find him not guilty.

I saw a bit of Colbert’s Late Show open from the other day where he highlighted some of the nonsense ‘questions’ the Republican Party lawyer was putting forward to William Taylor. Had to check myself and god, it was absolute drivel.

Taylor's face for some of those questions is simply brilliant.

I think my favourite moment of the day 1 testimonies was when Welch so perfectly shot down Jordan's pearl clutching.

Sam Bee did a lovely piece on how Fox are dealing with impeachment - by constantly reminding their viewers that it'll be really boring, impenetrable and so not worth watching (I think this is the piece):

FWIW Her "Full Frontal" is the best last-night US news show ("Last Week Tonight" is a close second), the only week-spot is the talent void who is Amy Hoggart. Most of her show's best bits are dumped on youtube.

There's so many scandals surrounding Trump that's impossible to keep up with them all. Every day it's something else. Incredibly, he's almost found a way to bury scandals using scandals, because after a while people have become almost numb to it.

Sondland has gone big already and thrown Trump and Guiliani under the bus in his testimony.
