    Why? Because the alternatives are worse, as you say.
    You have answered your own question.

    Bachmann is not good enough. Stick with Foster till the end of the season and both of them can leave We will have Dahlberg and Okoye next season

    No. I was taking issue with VOR saying Foster was responsible for our clean sheets and we would have taken more tonkings if it wasn’t for him. That’s not true: Foster has been poor.

    I am not putting myself in the middle of battles between posters.

    I just took what he said at face value, Foster has not been great, but he is still our best option. Saying he played a part in our clean sheets does not mean he has been brilliant it just means the alternatives would probably of let in a goal in the same situations.

    Foster has made mistakes, but he has also made some good saves.

    Foster has been atrocious this season, second worst starting keeper in the league quite comfortably

    I don’t think Foster has been poor outside the last two games. He’s an idiot of course but that’s another story. These last two games aren’t Foster suddenly hitting a wall and his ability going down the drain, this has happened every season with us, even in the championship. He’s a better keeper than Bachmann who is capable of replicating Fosters display last night in every game he plays.

    You seem to not be comprehending the intention of his post (which has followed a familiar theme on Foster all season). If you don’t want to put yourself in the middle of a “battle” between posters why on earth did you reply to me?

    We have two poor keepers and one is better than the other.

    Probably worth noting this is exactly what Bachmann does. He also made some great saves in amongst his mistakes.

    That’s not me saying I 100% want Bachmann in goal or think he’s better. But it’s only fair to mention the above point if there is a debate being had.

    Personally, knowing we are going down, I find Foster’s messing around off the pitch far more annoying than Bachmann’s mistakes on it.

    I’d still play Angelini over both of them right now mind you.

    Agreed Bachmann has also made some great saves, but overall Foster is the better of the two. I do not look at Fosters off field activities so they have not annoyed me.

    Foster is tailing off and Bachmann does not seem to be able to progress into a good keeper so neither should be our future. I do not know anything about Angelini so cannot comment, the question really is, will giving him PL experience improve him or scar him for the future?

    Both of our keepers are complete and utter **** at this level. It's that simple, and to make matters worse so is most of the rest of our squad.

    Foster was a very good keeper back in his day - before age caught up with him and before he became a creepy, YouTube obsessed, unprofessional weirdo - but is now poo. Bachmann has always been crap and is a mid-table Championship goalkeeper at best.

    Shift them both next season and have Okoye and Dahlberg with Elliot kept on again as emergency back up. They can't do much worse.

    From what I've seen, I like Dahlberg, but he hasn't had an ideal season, I don't think spending another season on the bench is the best thing for him. I'd keep Bachmann as backup for the Championship if he doesn't sulk, he's not exactly 'the future', and while he's not exactly a star, he's certainly good enough to be a #2 at Championship level

    He very clearly will sulk, though - he's done it at Prem level more than once, insanely enough.

    Yeah, there's no way his completely unfounded but absolutely huge ego accepts being designated number 2 in the Championship.

    His attitude seems to be utterly horrendous. Yes he is good enough as a goalkeeper to be second choice at that level, but I don't want the **** head anywhere near the club next season. That goes for a lot of the rest of the squad as well.

    It does not matter if you and others think he is unlikeable it's how he does his job that is the important thing and although he made a vital mistake on Thursday he is still a good GK and is by no means anyway near a bad keeper.

    I would say he is in the top ten of PL keepers and the only thing against him is his age, otherwise he would probably have no trouble getting into at least half of the PL teams IMO.

    Keeper wise the Almunia/Gomez/Foster approach has served us perfectly well with keepers and in the PL up to now. For some reason they abandoned it and thought Bachmann would’ve been good enough when he clearly wasn’t (see also WTE) and kept Foster on until he was way too old. I don’t know why we didn’t for Romero when he was a free agent.

    Foster a top 10 keeper! :confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

    He'd be lucky to be a top 10 keeper in the Championship.

    A few stats on our keepers:

    Expected goals per 90 min minus actual goals per 90 min (-ve is bad, +ve is good:
    Foster = -0.23 (21st out of 23 keepers)
    Bachmann = -0.23 (joint 21st)

    Long ball accuracy %:
    Foster = 36.2% (15th)
    Bachmann = 38.8% (11th)

    Stopped crosses % (caught/punched):
    Foster = 4.6% (19th)
    Bachmann = 3.0% (23rd - last)

    I've intentionally picked the stats which aren't really affected by team mates and can be compared regardless of matches played, all the others are more difficult to compared - for example Foster is statistically the best penalty saver, with 100% success this season. However, if a keeper doesn't face any penalties it's hard to save them!

    What is clear though is that neither is performing well statistically. Shot stopping of both is poor but pretty much identical, whilst Bachmann's kicking is better and Foster's claiming of crosses is better (but still bad).

    Bachmann bottom for stopped crosses? Well there’s a surprise.

    I thought Foster would be better though.

    Is there a metric for the distance from which a keeper gets beaten @reids @LouOrns ? Seems like a fair few of the goals Foster concedes are from quite far out these days.

    He is definitely one of our most important players, but not among the top 10 keepers in the league. Maybe top 15 keepers though.

    At this stage, I’d rather anyone but CyclingGK. We’re conceding 3 or 4 goals a game, it doesn’t matter who’s in ******* goal.
