Almost no one considers themselves ‘woke.’ If they do it’s usually irony now. You seem to be looking at it as if there is one side that is woke and is banging on about that, but it’s simply been adopted as a term of disparagement by the Right.
Kinda, it's not really the woke criticising the non-woke or the non-woke criticising the woke or even the ideals of wokeness. It's the whole label thing I'm fed up with. The whole pronoun crap apears to be a topic generated to catch people out or to whip some into a frenzy of faux outrage (both sides). I couldn't give a rat's arse if someone wants to identify as he/him, she/her, they/them. Tell me your name and I'll refer to you by that. You can't get offended, I can't get it wrong job jobbed.
The ones labelled ‘woke’ (who seem to be most of the population bar the aggressive nationalists) are not criticising the ‘non-woke’ for not being ‘woke’ or even for not using pronouns, which for the record, I don’t care about either. They criticise specific ideas and behaviours, like antipathy towards immigrants or climate change denial. The ‘woke’ thing is a right wing construct that has taken hundreds of thousands of column inches to hone. It’s a catch all way to discredit and create a definable enemy ‘the woke media’ ‘the woke civil service’ etc. Like Truss’s ‘anti-growth coalition.’ An invention. Not the same as simply having opinions, which are always going clash and that’s fine.
Maybe the anti-‘woke’ need their own thread. Shocking catalogue of intimidation towards Chris Packham leads to extra security on Winterwatch. Presume these numpties trying to shut him down are the usual ‘free speech’ advocates who moan about a largely imagined ‘cancel culture.’ https://news.sky.com/story/chris-pa...nterwatch-set-after-specific-threats-13049947
Absolutely bizarre what some people will do. I do wish we would start labeling stuff like this as what it is, though: terrorism. Obviously not quite as severe as the stereotypical blow-something-up-with-a-bomb variety, but it still fits the criteria.
I absolutely agree with this. This type of thing is totally unacceptable. The perpetrators, whatever manner of extremist they are, should be sought out and dealt with. That includes threats and acts carried out by hunt protesters and aggressive eco-warriors.
Neither of the latter are usually violent. If you look up hunt clashes they are almost always the huntsmen violently attacking the hunt protestors. Sad if people want to side with hunts that continue to flout the law by pursuing foxes. Dozens of videos of foxes being ripped apart on YouTube if anyone needs proof. Just search ‘hunt kills fox.’ But be prepared for the full brutality of the ruling classes.
That is a very quaint view, and not entirely accurate, from my understanding. The hunt, in rural areas, is not the sole interest of the ruling classes. It is supported just as much by the working class members of the community. And sabotage has included many acts that have threatened the lives of people involved. As for brutality. What do you consider the effect of human existence on the environment? We destroy environments and animals everyday for the convenience of our modern lives. Which rather begs the question. Where, and how far, are you going with your argument? Will you be returning your home and places of work to their natural environment so as to make amends for the animal deaths, and suppression of future generations, caused by their creation and your lifestyle?
I don't want to totally derail the thread and make it about fox hunting, but how can anyone justify it in this modern age? Hunting to manage a wildlife population (e.g. highland deer) or for food (even if the hunter derives pleasure from it) makes perfect sense to me. But fox hunting achieves neither. It appears that it's only purpose is for those taking part to have a jolly and to satisfy their savagery. Pointless and disgusting.
I foolishly took him off ignore as I was intrigued as to how he could justify fox hunting. And totally confirmed my belief that he is just a wind up merchant / wannabe contrarian. (Incidentally with no interest at all in WFC. How tragic must you be to spend time picking fights you will be ridiculed for on the Politics section of a forum of a small football club you have no connection to? How on earth do you end up there?)
Isn't woke just a bunch of white liberals hiding behind a plethora of "be kind " or " be nice " messages but if you scratch beneath the thin veneer of " niceness" you will find a crew of nasty horrible barstards?. White supremists but from a different angle . At the end of the day these characters are looking for power . I see right through you .
That’s exactly it, Mr Crockett and his hat. People who care about things actually don’t care about things. You’ve seen right through everyone. Well done. Jesus. The depressing, half-digested cynicism is depressing.
I've seen through the fake people If you are not fake then stop protesting too much....as they say about fake people
There are millions and millions of people with allegedly ‘woke’ views, some with no greater hold on power than a National Trust membership. You seem to be calling millions of people ‘white supremacists’ without mentioning actual white supremacists, many of whom are posting stuff on Twitter about ‘the woke’ or transgender or climate change or mUsLiMs as I write.
That is a very tortured way to get a non-offensive insult into a conversation about ethics. If recognising that most of the things we choose to take political offense to have equivalence in other aspects of our lives is contrarian, then I am happy to be contrarian. You come over a bit like a Celebrity who thinks flying a private jet to complain about climate change is clever. If you can't understand why getting angry about one thing but not another is hypocritical, then that says more about you than me. Fans that go on forums are not that highly regarded mate. Mostly because of the unpleasantness that goes on between posters. Being a person that receives abuse from you does not make me the bad person in this. But being the person that dishes out the bile certainly reflects badly on a person. You think its OK. But few agree with you, and that is why there are fewer people on here than there used to be.
Wow. So discussing transgender, climate or Islamist issues is white supremacist now? Yet if I describe you as woke or fascist for attempting to stop conversations, by making hateful and false comments about people with genuine concerns, you will complain about me for pointing out the irony of your unpleasant ways. Wokery and far left extremism is being used in the same way as the nazis used their propaganda, to stir up hatred and shut dow opposing views. You have just done it by labelling people with genuine concerns as white supremacists, even though many of those views and concerns are held by muslims, Asians, and particularly Africans. Your views, I suspect, will be something you wish to deny in the not too distant future.
Slipping back into your old behaviour with the accusing and distorting posts. Davy mentioned a constellation of beliefs his purported ‘woke’ white supremacists have. I mentioned the issues real and unimagined white supremacist usually concern themselves with. Sure, any of those issues can also be discussed sensibly in a balanced way. But no need to reply. The whole conversation is a ridiculous low point in this forum’s history.
No. Doing what I always say I will do. You start scatter gun accusations of racism and white supremacy, labelling people as such for having views on legitimate concerns, so I point out the similarities to history. We probably are at a low point in this forums history. Your whole attitude to this forum is shutting people up or getting them deleted or banned, and you are admired and revered for it. That type of behaviour is far closer to fascism than concerns about out of control immigration (when it is out of control), wokery and climate are to white supremacy. You stop calling people with views you don’t like white supremacists, and I will stop pointing out what you are doing.
I once organised a national campaign to monitor funeral celebrations. Wake Watch was a tremendous success, with many celebrity patrons.
I started following people about in parks but people didn't like it and now have a restraining order. Walk watch
I used to follow John around, keeping an eye on his every move. Latterly, I have adopted similar tactics in relation to Kirsty. Wark watch.
I'm thinking of traveling back to the UK this November to attend a live music festival in Surrey. Woking watch.
It’s going to be well attended. Make sure you don’t get caught in any traffic jams. And Woking’s too far from London to consider getting there by going underground. And take a map with you; don’t want to get lost in a strange town.
