We don't really have many other options, but if he continues next season how he finished the final few months of the last one then we'd be thinking about upgrading him come the January transfer window! Don't think it's sensible to give the captaincy to him when his performances have been so erratic. He might become more consistent, in which case it can then be considered, but until then ideally it should be someone who can be counted on a bit more on the pitch.
Like any player, you need others around to contribute as well and he didn't have that last season. Watch him play for Scotland who are giving a 100% and you'll see a different player
I don't know how the players around him can be blamed for him constantly fluffing clearances? Maybe for Scotland he has other players covering for his deficiencies and mistakes?
If I spent every moment of the 90 minutes knowing I was the last line of defence between the opposition and Flapmann, I’d be in a constant state of panic and desperation.
Maybe so, but until you can confirm Gunn spends the entire game mindlessly bleating “away” whenever the ball comes within 35 yards of goal, I’ll hold off judgement on Porteous.
All time hall of shame performance for "Porto". Wish he'd concentrate on actually defending instead of trying to win the Sh1thouse of the Year Award. He's obviously got a will to win but my goodness he needs to grow up quickly. Can't believe people wanted him to be captain.
Slotted one in for Scotland! They might actually be in danger of automatically qualifying for a tournament.
Only had the game on in the background, but commentary seemed to have him at fault for one of the goals? I guess by Watford standards that is classed as decent, though.
I thought he played well he looked very composed playing the ball out from the back and this was probably helped by not having a goalkeeper behind him shitting himself about playing with his feet.
Well Robertson definitely had a bad error for our 2nd. Think some thought Ports was too slow to come out and catch Rashford offside for Foden’s goal but think that is harsh. Tbf England played well and the quality we have will test most defences if allowed to .
Not sure Twitter thought that but then that is social media for you ! He did some good tackles and got stuck in as ever. Was caught out a few times but then as I say our attacking players will do that to the best defenders.
A split second late to push up to play the England forward offside, but he wasn't the only one. Struck me as the kind of thing he wouldn't get punished for at Championship level
He was appalling in the first half. Rash tackling and was constantly caught out standing behind the rest of his defensive line and playing everybody onside.
Good thing we're in the Championship then and not playing against world class players week in week out then!
Ryan Porteous not having a great time of things . Scored an OG tonight although sounds like another defender was to blame - sounds familiar! From BBC: “Calamity. Aaron Hickey, Scotland's standout performer, slips under no pressure at all and the visitors are caught short from the the resulting cross. Ryan Porteous slides in to try and intervene but can only bundle the ball into his own net from close in”
Looked like a £25 million player and a £500k player at times last night. Hope the Scotch qualify but it is nice to see them suffer a bit.
Still very hot-headed, will be out for the next game, which might not be the worst thing in the world for us, especially if Livermore is looking a more viable option in the midfield in place of Sierralta
Hopefully his performances for Scotland recently (and in the forthcoming Euros?) will inflate his price so we can flog him for a good profit and help service our debt.
Yeah, he's a bit of a carthorse at Prem level, but I can't think of many occasions where he's let us down at Championship level despite injuries and being ****ed around a lot
Surely he’s better on the ball than H and P though ? He’s been being played in midfield for much of the season, admittedly in an defensive “win and release the ball” role.
