Impressive debut a class above the other CBs we've had recently and with a great upside. In contention for more Scottish caps and I hope he develops at Watford into captaincy material and in due time on to bigger things.
I hope that Wayford will be those bigger things. Wouldn't want him to go to Man City, Chelsea, Luton or any of those other clubs ahead of us.
Pity we did not sign him and Doig earlier. At least it's a step in the right direction in overhauling a tired ageing and often incompetent defence. Another excellent performance aside from a couple of wrinkles.
Whisper it quietly but... I don't think he's that good. I like his spiky attitude but he's pretty rash, both in the tackle and positionally. Pretty sure he also cost us two goals recently from corners as he was so desperate to be the one to head it away that he left his man completely unmarked at the back post. Could turn out to be a decent Championship defender, would be a disaster in the Premier League.
I mean, he's no worse a defender than any of our existing crop at the very least, and he's better with the ball and bringing it out. He's also only 23, playing in a new country with only a handful of appearances yet under his belt and having been dropped in to a brand new centre back pairing making up the heart of a pretty haphazard-to-ropey defence in a basket case of a club lurching from one catastrophe to another that seems to have mostly forgone the luxury of coaching since he arrived. I'm personally really not sure we can extrapolate much of anything for his long term prospects from the situation so far.
What a performance from Porto. Defended like a hero tonight, and I’m not even Scottish! Him, Hoedt and a fit Sierralta is an excellent defensive core for this division and gives us something to build off of.
Till their first bad game .. You just know he’ll have a shocker on Saturday now! On a serious note he has settled in well and performed pretty consistently.
Yeah seeing lots of sports websites state that it was a soft penalty. Haven’t seen it myself, but sounds like it was harsh.
Interview with him in the Scotland papers . Mainly about Elton and them lot (spot the glaring error)! https://www.scotsman.com/sport/foot...hy-hibs-was-more-intense-than-watford-4187015
They got away with an earlier incident that was the same so a classic case of the ref trying to make “amends” for the home team ?
https://www.footballscotland.co.uk/spfl/other-football/ryan-porteous-skips-post-scotland-27171262 Reportedly Porteous was due back today. Good that he managed to get a break in before the international games. Also talks about a big rebuild - he's not wrong.
Hell of a rebuild. Every facet of the club needs to change - captain included and it should be this guy.
Good on him…the sort of think a captain should do. Is he the most talented player in the squad? Nah. But I reckon he has a pretty big heart and loves a fight. I don’t see many other options.
