    There have been numerous stories about former page three girls who fell into drug habits and ended up destitute. The Sun, working both ends, ran those stories too.

    That’s not to excuse any wrong behaviour of this presenter, nor any tardy action of the BBC if these things are proved, but the hypocrisy is hard to stomach.

    The Sun's protestations sound pretty weak and their high horse is looking lame all of a sudden.

    Seems they're now down to 'we have proof the parents' concerns weren't listened to', which is fine until we account for the fact the alleged victim is an adult seemingly able to make their own unwise choices, including whether they wish to complain about what happened when they were 17. Obviously news moves quickly and there could be more to go with this story, but it looks like an anti-BBC hatchet job as it stands.

    But surely the only way to make money, if it isn’t true, would be to make the threat and blackmail. As soon as the story was sold to The Sun it would all unravel if they didn’t have any evidence and any sum paid would have to be repaid. Far more likely they have been paid enough to retract the story and keep quiet and destroy the evidence.
