You literally said they were luxury in Feb 2018. Game set and match. Give me 45 mins and I will find the post.
So long Joao , possibly one of the most technically gifted players I’ve seen in a Watford shirt and definitely wore his heart on his sleeve . In another dimension he could have achieved some great things with Watford . I think with the right players around him and if he stops trying to do everything. , he could go on to great things . However , I do feel at times without him in the team watford played more as a team this season . Anyway hopefully we will get a chance to say goodbye on Monday and wish him well .
Agree - with lots of quality around him he will be able to step back and be himself. It's one of those transfers that probably works for everyone - we get a cash boost, Brighton pay a fair price and JP gets game time in a much better team. Think he will do really well there and wish him well.
Genuinely hilarious that there is another common denominator in this argument - but you didn’t choose to say anything to them.
To further this, and I appreciate people will only have my word for it (I did message a couple of people privately when I knew the deal was done but not announced as they asked me if I knew the fee)… But the info I was given was that it was £28m transfer fee, £7m guaranteed add-on’s, with £3m(roughly) potential other additionals. With a sell-on percentage of any fee over £35m Brighton receive. So the reports and comments around the fee being around £30m but being amongst the very-best in EFL history are true. It just depends how you slice it really.
Sound more than fair to me. I assume that money will be to payback debt and we will need cash from other sales or outside investment, to have funds to reinvest.
Not sure I've seen guaranteed add-ons before. How is the £7m any different to the £28m if it's guaranteed? There is no way we are getting all £28m up-front, so why wouldn't the £7m just be included in the payments schedule?
Well, it'll just be another way of bolstering a deal/accounts. Perhaps they aren't 'guaranteed' as we would think it, but '£1m after first 10 appearances, £2.5 after first complete season' etc with a clause in the contract saying they are fully payable if the player is sold before the end of his first contract etc. It is a thing in football, even if not reported as such. It won't be in the payment schedule because Brighton won't want it to be for whatever reason, and we have agreed.
I was going to say. What’s a string coach? Paging @reids. Some kind of new revolutionary role I think.
I thought his goodbye speech to the crowd today was hilarious. He essentially said ‘smell you later’ and handed the mic back. Really touching stuff.
And he clearly left before the end of the match. I hope he does well, but he won’t be displacing Brian Pollard or Ronny Rosenthal in my squad of favourites.
If we play like we have this season I might be tempted to follow you to Brighton Pedro, as I live much closer to them than I do to The Vic, but I'm hoping I won't have to consider doing that!!! Thanks for the memories JP and good luck for the future!!!
Yep, it's no coincidence that he made his league debut for us when we were outside of the relegation zone in 19/20, with safety a real possibility. Only been downhill since.
Can we please keep this thread on topic and not - yet again - have a thread derailed by schoolboy-style accusations and personal insults? Thanks.
Now a favourite of a Jazz Club fans, it’s Joao Pedro and his Pointless Weaving Runs with a little number called ‘Sulk’. Smokin’.
The most overrated player in our history leaves. At least Sarr has that one stellar game against liverpool. This guy has nothing at all. Brighton will be weaker next season.
Louza was our key player when he was injured, now JP is crap as he didn't stay. Why didn't you all warn us he was crap when he was playing for ys?
Not directly JP related, but I was surprised to see Mac Allister was sold by Brighton for 'only' an initial £35m. Granted it could go up to a potential £55m, but the initial fee isn't that much bigger than JP's (from what I understand, it's an initial £28m, but we are guaranteed to get and extra £7m and might get an additional £3m in clauses, plus a potential sell-on fee too)
