Mmm, but he was/is an old git who came across as out of touch and disinterested.. Don’t think Wilder does, but you’ve clearly taken against him.

So a two month contract for Wilder as he tries to make something out of the random selection of players at the club.

No, I hate Hodgson and I’ve nothing against wilder, I just think they’re similar appointments and both as desperate as each other. Wilder obviously isn’t a good long term fit for for us, just like a retired Hodgson wasn’t, they were/are both desperate gambles that are based on both having previously done something in the past, that we’re now desperately trying to replicate in the immediate short term.

Their personalities may or may not be similar.

Not sure how I feel about this . I admit it’s given me some hope we might still go up … but at the same time that makes me feel a bit dirty !

We know Pozzo likes to gamble so it’s not surprising. Personally I would have preferred to stick with Edwards.

Going to support the new manager, whatever you think of the situation I feel it's wrong to write him off before a ball is kicked under his tenure. And besides, the law of averages suggest Gino has to get one appointment right at some stage!

Wilder's stock was high after Sheff Utd, but it really didn't work out at Boro. He had a very average (WDL) record there. Not sure why he failed and he did have 45 matches but it just didn't work out.

So I'm not sure what to expect. He was the talk of the town only a couple of years ago. This amazing system at Sheff Utd that took the Premier League by storm.

Is he a potential Premier League manager? Not convinced he is, but he knows his way around the Championship. Will he be able to inject some life and get our stalling team started? We'll have to see.

Is he going to be here next season? No, I just cant see it no matter what happens. I wouldn't mind him staying if we don't go up and he puts on a good show but just fails to get promotion, but I just think Manga would like his guy. Wilder is probably a good appointment to for circumstances, but I doubt he's Manga's ideal appointment.

Well that we can definitely agree on, giving a young manger who lost 2/10 games and beat Burnley, Boro and Sheffield Utd 10 games in total, only to end up giving Wilder 11 games at the end of the season just highlights how bonkers it was to bin him off so early.

I personally think this makes sense. Thought Bilic was very passive on Saturday and Wilder might just be able to get us in the playoffs as I don’t think we would have made them under Bilic.

A club constantly looking beyond the current manager connects with a manager constantly looking beyond the current club. Match made in heaven or total hellscape incoming.

Buzzing to see this play out.

All this "Wilder plays exciting" football crap is seemingly being strongly dispelled by Boro fans, who seem to almost unanimously dislike him and are pointing out that his football was not only ineffective results wise, but also boring and negative.

Yet another season that's over months before it actually ends.

And is 3-5-2 going to work here with our defence and non scoring strikers ?

Sorry Nath, we hold the same thoughts overall about the club etc. But the above isn’t really true. You only need to look on social media, or some Boro forums during the start of his time there, to see many Boro fans were raving about some of the stuff they were seeing.

Went sour at the end, mainly, as many point out, because his head was turned by being linked to other jobs. But @reids outlined earlier very well that his football even this season, wasn’t boring and negative.

I’d say the popular train of thought is they were happy to see him go because they felt he was not committed to them and was tactically inflexible.

Quite happy with Wilder in the hotseat. I'd have preferred it if he was appointed in the summer once we have cleared a load of dross out of the squad and he can have some input into a proper Championship team.

Wilder being massively underestimated on here, IMO. It might not work, because the club's a mess, but he's a top HC.

Well at least every appointment brings the joys of the armchair Twitter tactics experts telling us what to expect and then having to slowly backtrack when it doesn't materialise.

Recent highlights of this genre include 'Sampdoria are the pressing kings of Europe, Ranieri will have us doing the same' and 'Rob Edwards' team were all about overloads out wide and non stop crosses into the box'. Now we have 'corrr, can't wait for the overlapping centre backs, never seen anything like it at the Vic before' which is great until Wilder sees Cathcart and Hoedt lumbering around in his first training session.

Will they be “coached properly “?

Seems the experts on Twitter were pretty sure Bilic wasn’t doing that .

I just had a look at their forum, general consensus seems to be they are very worried he'll get a short term bounce out of us, but they all to a man hate him as a person. Should be fun.

One thing they all at least have in common is getting blamed for the fitness levels of the team several months into the latest saps go at it.

Only going on what I've seen on social media in the last few hours and I've barely seen one positive comment from them about him. As always I hope to be proven wrong but as always I expect it's another manager who will fail to some extent and be out the door come May.

It doesn't really matter who the manager is, to be fair. The club is rotten to the core.

I bet Wilder was gutted when his Boro side lost 2-1 to a last minute goal against us earlier in the season. He’s probably delighted by it now. Crazy how things switch around in football.

He has the chance to get his own back on Rob Edwards though, albeit both managing different teams.

I suppose it’s too much to ask those in our fan base who supported Pozzo by labelling Edwards as out of depth to apologise. But then I realised they will be doing new mental gymnastics to support their oddball owner.

Wilder should definitely be motivated to make amends for his recent setbacks. To be fair Tyson Fury was always a bridge too far.

Could be a fun few months while it lasts.
